We arrived at the Caladh, which is 6 miles north of Portree. Signs visible, easy to find - GPS works if you use Waze or Google Maps. It is a little pricey for what is offered compared with other b&bs, but it's all about location. We could not find an affordable b&b on short notice, as most of the town is booked through the beginning of October. We booked through a late room website, as we're planning our trip day-to-day and drove from Nairn. 

On arrival, the property overlooked a lovely loch (as did our room). We were greeted by a lovely lady who rushed to find a first aid kit for me, as I'd literally fallen an hour ago and took most of the skin off of my knee (very sweet of her, since the co-op in town doesn't even carry triple antibiotic ointment). She gave us the tour. Bed was lovely. Bath clean. We knew that we weren't getting our standard clawfoot bath and four-post bed - but I have no complaints. Lovely welcome. See pics.

Warm and welcoming

Entering the building you are confronted with a very cheap looking environment but after the initial impact one warms to this guesthouse. The bedding was excellent and the ensuite was large with plenty of hot water and great water pressure. The daily servicing of the room was of a high standard. Breakfast was at staggered hours but as we wanted the 9am we were not inconvienced like some of the other reviewers. Breakfast had excellent  variety and the cooked breakfast was wonderful.
Guests can use the laundry and kitchen facilities which is great.
This guest house is nearer Uig than Portree so ideally you do need transport although there is public transport. 
We would certainly stay there again and reference to the high cost from other reviewers they were probably staying there because it was cheaper than lesser quality places in Portree.  In the high season bookings are extremely difficult to get.

Cosy, friendly place to stay

I was almost scared off of this place due to the horror stories in other reviews. However I found that the lodging was easy to locate (with road signage) and overall a decent budget value considering the location and the season. My main complaint is that they cook the breakfasts one at a time which is a bit of a drag for a couple.

For £75 per night it was very basic and not very clean. Its appearance from the outside is very run down and the place could do with a lick of paint. Inside, the rooms are small but ok. No TV was frustrating and the WiFi signal poor at best. The people were very friendly though and went out of their way to help, which was good. It was ok for 2 nights (friends wedding) but I wouldn't go back in a hurry. Shame, as the location is very pleasant. 

Needs some tlc

Dirty place, bad smell (don't know if the dog in the director's office or the same director). One day the director decided to take our things and brought it in another room whithout any advice and respect. Too expensive for the horrible service. Avoid from here!!!
