We had a lovely week at Colossus. The Property is ideally situated for exploring St Mary's. It's an easy walk into the town and the quay, for boat trips to the other islands. Carmen provided an excellent breakfast each day, with plenty of choice and Carmen was always happy to give suggestions of which part of the island to visit, depending on the weather and wind direction, and lots of information about the Isles of Scilly. Carmen was very aware of covid 19 precautions and we felt very safe.

Perfect B&B

We usually spend a couple of weeks a year (sometimes more) in Scilly and we have stayed in the self catering flat at Colossus a number of times over the years. We have come to regard the owners as friends that are always helpful and willing to do whatever is required to ensure a great stay. 

The flat (comprising kitchen, bedroom and bathroom) is always clean, tidy and everything is maintained in good working order - or replaced pretty quickly if it isn't. 

It's located about 1 mile from the quay which makes for a perfect walk in the mornings and evenings when going to catch the boats to other islands or find an evening meal in the town. 

As an option for self catering independence when staying in Scilly we would very highly recommend the flat at Colossus.

Home From Home

I enjoyed my stay at the Colossus B&B very much. It was my first trip to the Isles of Scilly and the accommodation is ideally located to explore St Mary. After a little walk to the quay you can easily join one of the ships bringing you to the other islands. Carmen's delicious breakfast offering various choices, was a perfect basic for the tour-days. Carmen also gave a lot of helpful & interesting information about the Islands' history and support when needed and last not least a relaxed welcome feeling. I  can highly recommend the Colossus.

Colossus

My partner & I stayed at Colossus for a week's holiday on our first visit to the Isles of Scilly. Carmen & Todd made us feel very welcome. They run a lovely comfortable guesthouse, which also has self-catering facilities, only a short walk from the centre of Hugh Town. Carmen is a mine of useful information on the Isles of Scilly and nothing seemed to be too much trouble for her. She helped to make my landmark birthday, which was on the day we arrived, special and she was exceptionally helpful when I needed to make a return trip to a hospital in Cornwall after having had a cycling accident on one of the Islands. The breakfasts were filling with lots of choice of food and were always a very friendly, relaxed time. We would highly recommend staying at here to anyone.

Fabulous holiday

We stayed a week in the flat mid-May 2019. It has everything that's needed and is clean and private. Carmen, the owner, is helpful with her in-depth knowledge of the islands and everyone you meet on the islands seems to know her and thinks highly of her. We went on a walk with a local, George, on St Agnes. He was able to tell us much about flora, fauna and the history of the islands. Carmen gave us details of what was happening during the week and I attended a walk and write day on St Martin's which was fabulous. I can totally recommend the flat with no hesitation.

Fabulous week in the self-catering flat

We stayed for 6 nights, exploring St Mary's and the surrounding isles. The Colossus is located just 7 minutes from central Hugh Town and about a quarter mile from Olde Town. It's just a hop and a skip to Peninnis Head, too. 

The rooms are sparkling clean, the beds very comfortable and Carmen is a great host. She can tell you anything you want to know about Scilly, and will give you an update about the day's sailings at breakfast.

What sets the Colossus apart from other b and bs is that the the breakfast room is filled with objects from the 1787 wreck of the HMS Colossus, which Carmen and her husband Todd, both divers, rediscovered and excavated.  The large stern figure is on display at the Tresco Abbey Gardens. 

As my traveling companion was quite ill and contagious during our stay, Carmen was flexible and allowed me to stay in the other rooms for a few nights so my exposure to the illness would be lessened. She went out of her way to find me another place to stay when her rooms were occupied by other guests. 

You will feel that you are truly immersed in Scilly when you stay here.

A very comfortable B&B.. it was very good value for money .. the breakfast was very nice and well presented by our stunning host Carmen....
The room was comfortable with bathroom en suit and clean.
The location was a little walk but suited us.. I will definitely recommend this B&B

Great stay

We had a second great holiday staying in the lovely apartment in Colossus. We stayed previously in 2016 and once again were given a very warm welcome by our host Carmen. We can thoroughly recommend this accommodation - it is nicely located between Hugh Town and Old Town. The self catering apartment is very well equipped and we enjoyed a terrific fortnight in the beautiful Isles of Scilly. We can wholeheartedly recommend Colossus and we will certainly return in the future.

Another lovely stay on St Mary’s

I stayed here for 5 days in August. It is a perfect base for exploring the Isles of Scilly. Breakfast was delicious. The room I stayed in had 2 single beds with ensuite and a nice shower. It was very clean & well presented. Carmen is a lovely host and very knowledgeable about the area. Thank you for an awesome stay Carmen :o) 


Excellent B&B

Booked a couple of nights rather last minute, and lucky to get availability in this well reviewed B and B.   Location fine about 10 mins walk to harbour.   Room very clean, but poor outlook if of concern, though not to me much as out all day.   Carmen was most helpful and kind with anything I needed or information.   The cooked breakfast as good as one would want, just with one other couple present, totally acceptable for me on a Covid level.
This converted house has limited soundproofing; though hosts and guests were as quiet as normal, this the only factor I would mark it down for.   Otherwise a great base to stay in St. Marys.
