Extremely warm welcome when you walk in, pub feels friendly from the onset, very dog friendly, we were made to feel at ease with our three tiny terrors. We both had salt & pepper squid to start, perfectly cooked and plentiful. Mains were chicken & mushroom pie & scampi, both equally delicious. The lovely landlord and his staff were very attentive and efficient. His wife even made me a takeout pavlova when I expressed I wanted one but had no room for it  until later,
We’ve been in this place a few times and never had a bad experience as expressed in some reviews, would highly recommend to anyone.

Excellent, value for money home cooked food.

We decided to go out at the last minute (not a good idea!)  When I  phoned the landlord said they were busy but could fit us in (it was steak night).  We had a warm welcome.  The food was very good and tasty, a beef lasagne with salad and a steak and ale pie, chips and veg.  Follwed by chocolate brownies/cream and a waffle with fruit and ice cream.  A good atmosphere with lots of locals.

Last minute dinner

Came back a second time to give it another chance. Albeit that the garden overhaul is good the pub is dingy and the tables sticky. The menu lack lustre. The owner is off putting and unwelcoming. Plus if you chose for your staff to wear a face mask at least wear it properly yourself.

Surreal

I had drinks with friends who we all hadn't seen for a while. Had great service from Kit, who was attentive and chatty with really quality table service. Frazzle orders were met with enthusiasm too! Will definitely revisit and look forward to it!

Drinks with friends

Great OLD pub with lots of character. Good choice of ales and good food also a nice large beer garden at the rear. 
Nice clean bedroom/bathroom and the owner Nikki was very helpful and does a good full English breakfast.
We used this B&B for 2 nights for a wedding in Kingsbridge with the reception right near the B&B so it was very well placed.
Would we use this B&B again if we were ever in the area again.... Yes simple as that. 

Nice OLD pub /loads of character. 

We visited this pub whilst staying  in Ashburton, one evening after it had re-opened following shutdown during Covid restrictions. 

The pub is well laid out with a series of small rooms and a nice garden area still being developed. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and comfortable. 

Gareth, the manager, is so enthusiastic looking forward to welcoming new visitors. All the staff were very friendly. 

There was a small problem with our meal but Gareth addressed this for us. We enjoyed our evening immensely and it was great that our little dog was also welcome - dog treats on the bar for him. 

We will definitely return to The Exeter Inn and look forward to another good evening there.

Friendly Pub

Positives: Good location, lovely garden, very good breakfast, waitress very friendly for evening meal
Negatives: Not very welcoming, Wi-fi in bedroom weak, beds a bit lumpy, some noise from bar in bedroom, pub food was OK but nothing special, owners a bit stand offish

Mixed experience

We were disappointed with the lack of attentive staff here - they weren't great at taking orders quickly or setting expectations with regards to space in the garden (of which there never seemed to be any). Good menu but food was quite average. Nice little pub for a quick drink but better places to eat nearby.

Average food for a quite bite

We enjoyed our visit to this pub at the weekend. My family and I felt extremely safe as the pub was set out really well with hand sanitiser and social distancing adhered to. The food was delicious.  They had their take out menu only but it is well worth it. I was served the best fish I've tasted in a long time and the kids had lovely pizzas - they ate every bit. The service was 2nd to none. I will definitely be returning next time we are in the area. Nice beer too!

Fantastic pub

Popped in this week probably around 1:30 , hoping to get some food . Warm welcome from the barmaid and happy for our dog to come in turned out there were 4 in already . Had a quick lunch scampi and chips , lovey and fresh chips piping hot good peas and lovely salad for my girlfriend. Good selection of wines buy the glass and excellent beer . Fantastic very old world atmosphere.... super little pub great staff !!
