Nicola our host was wonderful, myself and my friend arrived late for a wedding and Nicola dropped us off at the next farm along as we were going to miss the ceremony!
It was cosy and comfy, we were gutted we couldn't make the most of it, we arrived home from the wedding at 1130 and had to leave at 930am. It would be a great base for walkers and the working farm was such a lovely setting. 
We had a lovely breakfast and chat with some other happy guests too (eggs and smoked salmon) we will definitely be back! Gemma and Eve

Had a great 3 days. Very quite.Great to relax.Even the cows where quite.Would recommened.Bed and room very clean and comfortable. Breakfast had a great choose.

If you like old houses - and this one dates from the 12th century - you will love Tranthwaite.  If you like the routine busy-ness of a working farm, you'll love this place (be prepared for the rich aroma of dairy farming and parking in the farmyard!).  If the chance to wander a mile down a quiet hedge-lined country lane next to a babbling brook to the pub (surrounded by lovely country views) is your idea of a good evening, Tranthwaite may be for you.  Or you could just drive to one of several excellent eating pubs in the area.

Situated a few twisty miles from Kendal (i.e. not that far off the motorway), I'm a little loathe to review it - it's a truly lovely place.  The en suite bedrooms are very comfortable (although not all that roomy); nicely furnished.  I like the provision of two wine glasses and a corkscrew next to the kettle, tea and milk.   The full English breakfast is very nice.  There is the ancient sitting room with its massive oak beams to relax in.  

I can't think of any negatives, bar a warning that the stairs to the bedrooms are steep, so bear this in mind if you have a bad knee or back!
