Stayed for a romantic weekend for our anniversary. The food for breakfast and dinner, the room and service was excellent. 

I couldn't fault it and I would recommend staying at the hotel and we will be coming back. As we want to walk Great Gables, the peaks around Buttermere and Catbells. As the weather stop us this time.

The food served in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast is excellent. We couldn't fault it.

The bar makes excellent cocktails and a wide selection. 

The Hotel is easily walking distance to the loop path around Derwentwater. However, it can be wet so walking boots/waterproof shoes are recommended. In additional to some good walking routes, mentioned on their website.

The bus stop for the Borrowdale bus (87) is just north up the road outside of The Borrowdale Hotel. Its quick and easy way to get to Keswick. 

The ferry on Derwentwater is also a nice choice, the loop/hop on and hop off ticket can get you into Keswick and back. The third stop (3 - Lodore) is nearby and the path to it is opposite the Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa.

Anniversary weekend.

A surprise return to the Borrowdale valley but the first time staying here. It was wonderful. The view from our room  over the south end of the lake and Catbells was gorgeous. Dinner is a set menu and is fantastic. We stayed for 2 nights so experienced two different menues. Both were delicious. I will call out the amuse bouche in particular. Could have just eaten a pile of those. Lovely little bar and the bar top is a contour map of lakeland in slate which is exquisite. Staff so friendly and helpful. Struck a great balance of formal dining but relaxed, never stuffy. Probably have to mention the food again. It was great including the breakfast.

A lovely country house hotel.
Excellent helpful staff.
Wonderful food at the set dinner.Michelin recommended, and lived up to that very high standard.
Our room looked out over Borrowdale towards Cats Bells and Skiddaw.
The views were breathtaking. The bed  room was spacious and comfortable.
The bar is surprisingly. Stylish and well stocked it was better than many bars in much bigger hotels that I’ve been to.
A nice touch was the table and two chairs close to the window so you could just enjoy the view.
All in all a memorable trip and look forward to returning some day.

Lovely birthday visit

Stayed here for 3 nights.
The room was fantastic and spacious with mountain views. We also had a spa bath which was lovely.
We only had breakfast but there was excellent choice and of high quality.
Staff were very helpful and friendly.
There are two 7kw electric chargers which were very handy too.

3 day break

We stayed for 3 nights and dined in he restaurant on all 3 nights,   All the food dinner and breakfast was of the highest quality. The bedroom and bathroom were roomy and well appointed. The bar was small but well stocked, especially with whiskeys, I enjoyed the local Lakeland version. The staff were all exceptional, we can’t wait to return.

Great hotel

Leathes is getting a good reputation for food and we were delighted to get in as table numbers are small. 
The chef is inventive , the food of a high standard  . There is a good wine list and a comfortable lounge for a drink though I wonder how everyone crams in if all bedrooms are occupied. I think there are 12 letting bedrooms. 
There was a decent sized dining area though the six set of diners were put in a smallish room
Sadly one set of diners were extremely  loud which rather spolied the experience in a small area  Not the fault of the hotel of course.
The meal was a 5 course plus coffee and petit fours .
Amuse bouche, bread of the day, and starter, mains dessert
Please note there is no choice so find out the menu in advance. 
The maitre d was charming , introducing each course BUT herein lies the issue with here.
Each table had to be served BEFORE the details were announced. This meant our ravioli starter was cold and had toughened. The mains also gone cold. Plates were lukewarm
Id like to suggest they announce to each table on service what the meal comprises. No great effort and it would mean meals being hot.
Wine list was perfectly adequate starting at £30. However a g and t will cost you £10.50 ...extortionate really.  This is a lovely spot much better than the Borrowdale hotel for food *see previous review.  The difference in price well worth it at £60 for dinner.  I hope the iron out the service issue. We would certainly go back, maybe to stay. 


Very pleasant experience 

We visited for a two night stay and were absolutely delighted with this lovely hotel. Set in beautiful grounds in the Borrowdale valley, it is typical of a Lakeland house. The food was exquisite; certainly Michelin star level and the service level matched this.
Our bedroom was a little small, but beautifully clean and quiet with a comfortable bed and the bathroom was large with a bath and a shower.
The hotel was well located; close to the lake and Lodore  Falls and within a 10 minute drive of Keswick.
Overall, a wonderful stay with exceptional food. Well done!

Excellent food at this lovely hotel

We arrived at the hotel 3 pm ish and asked to book for evening meal..the lady got the menus etc then told us we couldn’t have it🤷🏻‍♀️
The manager came out and said we should have booked prior to arrival! Surely if you are staying at a hotel you can have dinner there? 
It’s the first time I’ve been to a hotel where we couldn’t eat as the chefs take all day from the morning to prepare!!!
We had to book into another hotel to eat and they couldn’t even order a taxi
We ordered a couple of drinks sat in the garden which was lovely but wouldn’t allow us to settle the bill.. we have to pay on leaving 

The room was nice but dusty

We had to order breakfast the day before using some app.. you couldn’t choose on the morning 😂😂 so if you ordered  fish and changed your mind you couldn’t breakfast,however was nice

No dinner sir!!!

A great stay. We had booked into the spa down the road so booked into this lovely hotel for the night. A clean and comfortable room with a great view from the window. Friendly staff who helped us with our bags to our room. 
When we arrived we preordered our breakfast for the morning. In the morning breakfast was served in the dining area. We throughly enjoyed the breakfast and it was of a very high standard. 
I would recommend this hotel to others and would love to stay again.

Beautiful place with stunning views

Booked this hotel for 1 night as a treat for our 36th wedding anniversary. The location is fantastic and the views are spectacular,  20 mins in a car takes you into Keswick town center where there are plenty of cafe's,  pubs , and shops to enjoy. 
The room was clean and comfortable and had a tea tray that was well stocked with different flavours of tea and decaf coffee.
Breakfast had to be pre ordered via a QR code in your room the day before something i found strange given that its only a 11 bedroom hotel and Michelin food awarded  i thought they could of taken orders at the table on the morning, that said the breakfast was very nice and hot and my husband was well catered for as a celiac Gluten Free.
The bar prices are very expensive so much so that it put us off ordering more than 1 round of drinks { cider and glass of wine £18,80} 
The staff we're very polite and helpful,  we would  book again for peace and tranquility that this hotel offers
