Tried all the hotels/pubs in Kettlewell this week and this place had the best food and service in town. It had been a cold day and it was great to see the log burner in full blaze. We had booked a table and were warmly welcomed. Food arrived promptly, well presented and delicious. Have booked a return visit.

Best in town

Just had one of the most delicious Sunday lunches I’ve ever eaten in beautiful surroundings and a roaring log fire.
Just reopened under new ownership a week ago.

Attentive new proprietors - one being the chef with clearly many years of his art. His partner is front of house and was very accommodating and friendly.

I had a very generous piece of Succulent brisket with all the trimmings cooked to perfection. Being coeliac was no problem at all and I wasn’t made to feel like an alien which can sometimes be the case!
Tastefully renovated and top spec . Even the napkins were of the highest quality. 

The energy is good and there I would really recommend this place whole heartedly. I asked to look at the bedrooms ( so accommodating) which are all spanking new and wasn’t disappointed-have booked to stay for our birthdays in a couple of weeks time and am already dreaming of the delicious food.
Wishing this lovely couple all the luck in the world - I’m sure they will soon be booked up!

A little gem

Family adult stay,I wouldn’t class it as a 4 star our room was tired ,no hot water from the bathroom sink,although we don’t expect it  but it was first time we have been anywhere where the bed wasn’t made, the waste bin not emptied the excuse was covid ( this was after restrictions were lifted)this excuse was used on numerous occasions but the truth was there didn’t appear to be anyone in charge just a small number of young people (probably on basic rate) working their butts off trying to keep things running,both pubs in the village belonged to the same people and you could tell.we was booked in for two nights stay and the first morning we went down to breakfast they wasn’t prepared for 9 people although obviously knew there was 9 of us, a lack of dishes ,milk ,butter etc the young girl was running around like a headless chicken as  there was only her and the chef in the kitchen, the following morning we was told we had to walk down to the other pub for breakfast has there was no chef there and that was a shambles too, where was the manager/owner?? Would we stay there again ?no chance...

Family weekend

Went here for an evening meal and what a surprise, the food was fabulous, monkfish with all yummy sauce but make sure you order a bowl of chips as this finishes off the sauce, I would have liked to lick my plate. This was followed by raspberry parfait, yummy ness on a plate, hats off to the chef!
I also wanted to say that the 2 young people who were out front deserved double wages as they served drinks inside and out, covered the bookings and serving of all meals and all of this with a happy, professional manner. This place is a lovely find and long May it reign.

What a delight!

Stayed for two nights. Room was clean and well furnished. However, we were disappointed to find that both breakfast and dinner (which we had pre-booked following great reviews) were served in sister pub, The Bluebell,  Food was basic pub fare but adequate.  We were told we had to be back between 9.30 and 10.00 p.m as Kings Arms would be locked. This didn’t really affect us.   However, because access was through the pub we were unable to leave the building  (as it was locked )for an early morning walk until the chef arrived at about 7.40.a.m.  There was no separate entrance for anyone having overnight accommodation.  This throws up safety considerations as there was no information in  the room as to how to evacuate the building should it have been necessary. We were asked to leave room keys when we left during the day and in the evening so it would be known who was in. However, the bar was not always manned and the keys were easily visible and accessible and could be picked up by anyone. We were not totally sure if there were smoke alarms in the room. The staff were pleasant but COVID seemed to be an excuse for a raft of minor problems including non service of the room which we were not told about . Clean towels are a necessity and had to be requested. We chose this accommodation after wonderful reviews in The Times. Sadly, it did not meet our expectations. A pity as it has the potential to be a wonderful place to stay I

Improvement needed

The previous review sounds like a Jeremy Clarkson incident and may not be aware of restrictions that are in place uk wide, we had a lovely time, staff very attentive and knowledgeable of local areas, halibut is cooked to perfection and far superior to pub grub, room William has the best view over the village and church yard, also ate at the sister pub the bluebell on our 1st night still good but pub grub. Devine breakfasts to start the day off, can't fault the place and service, we will return,  

A deserved break. 

arrived sunday 4/7/21 at 8.15 after driving 380 miles and told far too late for food, last orders 8.00. but food still pouring out of kitchen. asked about a sandwich, no chance, have some bar snacks. At 10.00 asked for a beer, told bar closes at 9.30, however was given a drink, so at 10.30 went to bed. Opened bedroom window to find the stench of chicken being roasted and extractor fan sending it my way. So went down stairs to complain where chef and bar man sat, both finishing drinks, chef  was unpleasant and told me I was a serial complainer, bar man seemed to at least realise that perhaps I had a valid whinge, kitchen still working at 10.45 but no food for me, he advised the cooking would finish in 20 min, gave me another drink , for free, to take to my room to have till I could open window and go to bed. In bed a bit then the beer cooler fan starts up at a  steady noise and did this on and off all night. so poor night sleep. I am 66 years old and this is my first ever negative report, I am not a serial complainer and generally just vote with my feet, but this warrants my time. I am sure not all staff are like this pair, so my apologies to all the other staff that this complaint does not apply too.

on my visit the staff concerned had NO can do attitude, quite the opposite, so did not stay the second night

We have just returned from a fantastic stay at the Kings Head. We went as 2 couples and stayed in the William IV room and George room. Both were lovely and spotlessly clean. The beds were comfortable although a mattress topper would help as we could feel the springs a little. 
The breakfast in this hotel was absolutely top class. Everything is freshly prepared and the choice is great. Delicious!
We ate dinner on Sunday evening and again this was lovely. 
What makes this place even more special is the staff. They were so friendly and helpful. Thank you Finn, Alicia, Gail and Boggy (the chef) hope I have his name right for making our stay so enjoyable. You seemed to genuinely enjoy having us there. 
We will be back!!

Fantastic place in this lovely location

Drinks order, asked for an alcohol free larger, had none. Coca Cola ordered instead, which arrived in a glass which looked like it was bought from a car boot sale, and was fit for the bin. Wife’s drink sent back due to a bug swimming around the bottom of the glass. 
Ordered soup, as the couple close by had ordered the same and looked nice, with rustic bread and butter in a small pot. Ours arrived with white pre-buttered bread, the likes a fish and chip shop would serve. Decided on a sandwich with chips. The chips were tainted with a fish taste, deep fryer oil obviously needed changing. Left most. 
Had to pay when food arrived, rather that at the end. 
Very poor would not recommend or be returning.

Visited for a lunchtime bit.

Spent the last night of our long distance walking holiday at the Kings Head. The staff were all very friendly and made us very welcome. Finlay looked after us very well and was very accommodating with our requests managing to secure us a table outside where we enjoyed a very tasty prawn mayonnaise sandwich with chips.

Our room was bright and comfortable and we had one of the best meals of the week that evening. The breakfast choice was quite varied and included crepes and avocado in addition to the usual full English. Would definitely recommend.
