We only stayed 1 night this time as we were following the NC500. We were greeted by John & Catriona when we arrived and they offered us tea and cake, a real treat for me as they had gluten free cake. I am a diagnosed coeliac and such things rarely happen. The room was lovely and comfortable, we had a great nights sleep and the bathroom was large with a great shower. The breakfast was very good and again they catered for me in a most impressive way.  When we left Catriona suggested a slightly different route over Glen Loth, a single track road with amazing views which dropped us down into Helmsdale itself.

A wonderful place to stay

We picked this house for our lightning trip north because it reflects so many of our own concerns - localism, sustainability, fresh homegrown and cooked food, uncluttered contemporary style. Catriona is a sophisticated and accommodating hostess, with a real concern for her community,  and a superb cook. The house is strong on comfort and beauty, with many marvellous places to visit close to hand. Hope very much to revist.

Tranquil, elegant, immaculate

Stayed 3 nights while touring the area.  The house is large and rooms are very comfortable.  Our double bedroom with large bath/shower room was very pleasant with king size bed and everything you needed for a welcoming stay.  Our host Catriona was welcoming and served the most lovely breakfast, from a huge choice.  Afternoon tea was a vey pleasant affair with home made cakes.  Views from the windows are magnificent.  Golf, beaches very close to hand.  Could not be faulted on any point.  Would thoroughly recommend. Written Covid security was very thoroughly explained and carried out unobtrusively.

Excellent accommodation and welcome

Fantastic B&B. Had our own dining room and lounge so could get takeaway and bring back to eat. Gave us all the condiments we needed, plates, cutlery.
Most fantastic breakfast menu.  Sea views. Tea and  Brownies on arrival and homemade shortbread in the room.  Highly recommended

Most excellent stay

We stayed 1 night and were the first guests since it reopened after lockdown. The host was very welcoming and all covid safety precautions were in place.

The house itself was full of character and our room was very cosy and clean with a huge bathroom with a shower and bath.

Our breakfasts were fantastic, pently of options to choose from and very tasty!

We would highly recommend staying here as part of the NC500 trail but think a second night would have been better as there are alot of local walks nearby. 

Superb Stay

We had booked 2 nights at Culgower House on our NC500 route.  We had a little trouble finding it and were tired when we arrived.  Our hostess opened the door and we were amazed.  The house was beautiful, like stepping into a magazine.  We were shown to our room which was very large and beautifully decorated.  The en suite bathroom was huge, with a fantastic large bath, separate shower cubicle and lots of first class organic products to use such as bubble bath, body lotion, gel, shampoo, soap, etc.  The room had everything you could possibly want and was top quality.  The coffee/tea tray had a huge variety of drinks, fresh milk in a flask and homemade shortbread!  Our hostess asked if we would like tea in the lounge - she didn't have to ask twice!

We went down to the lounge (purely for guests) to find a log burner giving out a warm glow, a large pot of tea and two slices of homemade almond and raspberry cake.  I was in heaven!  As we were the only guests we could relax and take our time and were reluctant to go upstairs.  We were given our breakfast menu to complete (Covid rules) which took some time due to the fact that I have never seen such a choice of goodies, with details of the origin of everything (mostly homemade or locally sourced).  Even the granola was homemade!  Over the two days choices included homemade fruit compote, muffins, blueberry and lime scones, the full Scottish including haggis, pancakes with caramalised banana, smoked haddock with poached egg, homemade sausage rolls.....the list goes on.  

The next morning the food was served in the delightful dining room with wonderful views of the sea.  Nothing was too much trouble and we were never rushed.  We were given advice on places to go for a walk locally and also found maps and guides.  There is plenty to do - we enjoyed a good walk up the Ben to a monument, a lovely gentle walk by the river and a very scenic coastal walk.  There were excellent cafes in either direction serving homemade food. We felt incredibly safe from a Covid perspective as all rules were followed and hand gel available.

I would thoroughly recommend this B&B as it is certainly a 5 star experience.

Top quality B&B - don't miss this!

Although less than an hour from home we decided to take a short break at Culgower House. What can we say? Outstanding! A totally relaxing stay in a beautifully renovated house. Felt totally comfortable with all the COVID arrangements put in place by John and Catriona. John was "flying solo" during our stay and could not have been more helpful and accommodating from the welcome tea and cake (which was gorgeous) through to breakfast each morning( just amazing), we are definitely hoping to make a return visit.

We enjoyed our stay and loved not only our room but the lounge and dining areas. Our hosts were very attentive with nothing was too much trouble, providing home made shortbread in the room.
Great view from our bedroom window and the bath was amazing. 

 Beautiful House

We visited Culgower House a few years ago and back then it was the best B&B we had ever stayed in.We visited again last week and this B&B remains the best we have ever stayed in.The house oozes style, the food was excellent and nothing was too much trouble for our friendly hosts.Lots of nice touches including tea and homemade carrot cake on arrival and homemade shortbread in our room.What a fantastic way to end our trip up North.
I can;t recommend Culgower House strongly enough - go visit for yourself!!!

Still the best B&B ever

My wife and I stayed here during our recent visit to Scotland and it was one of the highlights of our trip. Catriona and John made us feel right at home from the time we arrived. The property has a beautiful ocean view and a nice little garden by the house. The room was comfortable and well-appointed and the private bathroom was quite nice as well. Breakfast was beyond amazing and they were very accommodating to my food allergy requests. I can't say enough great things about our stay and we hope to visit again soon.
