We booked the Hall and House for a big family get together - and it was the perfect choice! Every bedroom is gorgeous, there’s a huge dining table and the kitchen has everything inc double dishwasher and fridge. Plus beautiful view and walks.

Very special family get together

We stayed in the House. A wonderful place to stay with friends and family. Beautifully decorated, very well equipped with lots of little extras waiting for us on arrival. Stunning location with so many accessible walks from the house. Delightful hosts too.

A wonderful stay! We stayed in the house and it was beautifully done. Everything we needed in the kitchen, comfy bedrooms, gorgeous setting. Communication was superb. There was ample parking options. 
BBQ and firepit area were a big bonus!
Would highly recommend.

A 5-Star Stay

We had a fantastic time at Brownber Hall. The house and garden is amazing and very clean. We loved the decor and there was plenty of room for all 15 of us and 4 dogs! Peter and Amanda (the hosts) were so helpful and had some fantastic recommendations for local pubs, they also left us with a big hamper on arrival which was a lovely touch - we loved the cookies. Peter has also been kind enough to post me some my things that I had clumsily left there. I would highly recommend!

Amazing stay!

Stayed at Brownber House for a long weekend with a group of friends. The house was spotless and it couldn’t have been more beautifully decorated. The owners left a lovely basket of bread, cakes, cookies. Everything worked perfectly and views from the house were fantastic. 
I will be back!

Fantastic House and Stay

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful off grid weekend at Bullghyll Hut. The Brownber grounds are so beautiful and relaxing, plenty of walks and exploring of the local area. The hut is perfect for a couple of nights relaxing and our dog loved the open space of the contained & private field. Such a wonderful way to reset after a busy work week!

We had stayed at Brownber Hall a couple of times and absolutely loved it but needed a smaller space this time so stayed at Bullghyll. This lovely cosy cottage was equally good. As in Brownber Hall the decor and furnishings are stylish but relaxed . The layout works really well for a family stay, lots of space but still connected. The scenery is stunning and beautiful walks all around.
We loved it and will definitely be back.

Lovely stay at Bullghyll

What a wonderful place! I was particularly spoiled having the master suite with its chase lounge placed at right angles to the widow overlooking the magnificent scenery of the Cumbrian fells. Having a big family is a blessing but I loved my quiet time, lounging with a book and a cup of tea whilst looking out on trees and fields, the landscape was stunning.  Autumn is a wonderful time to visit this area the colours were glorious,rich and feisty.
Our group ranged in age from 10 and bouncing with energy, to a more bone weary 70+. Walking in the fells and along the disused rail way track, that was two minutes away from the Hall and easily accessible, we found amazing views and new friends. One of the sheep became particularly attached to my sister. We saw horses, cows, sheep and goats of all varieties at close quarters. If you like walking in the countryside or even if you like the idea of walking in the country but are not sure where to start, this is the perfect location. 
I wanted a property with at least six bedrooms but ended up at Brownber with seven meaning that even the kids got their own bedrooms. I’m always concerned that no one should feel short changed. Bedrooms being allocated on a first come first served basis often leaves someone feeling they got the broom cupboard, not this time. Every room is on-suit and the wet room showers were much appreciated by soggy walkers returning from a rainy day out.
We did n’t use the utility room which has a washing machine a dryer and a second dishwasher. However we did make great use of the pantry which had two large fridge’s and a press cupboard and wine wracks. 
There was space for us all to be together, cooking and eating. I know it may seem a little thing but I loved walking into the main living rooms and seeing my sisters and there partners, my nephew and his family,  sitting engaged in there own activities but together as a family, there’s plenty of space but it feels like a home. 
Kirkby Stephen is the nearest town. On our first evening we’d forgotten some essential and popped to the nearest Spar Store. The friendly staff made good suggestions and even offered us a recipe for a good curry.  When we popped in to have a proper look around I was surprised at how much they have in the town. We can recommend the local baker (sorry I can’t remember their name) excellent pies, sausages rolls, pasties, and a scotch egg! Apparently the Scotch Egg was partially good. There were lots of interesting shops many being warren like with more floors and rooms than you think. 
We caught the train to Settle which is great for getting on and off to walk and take in the scenery. We spent two days at Ambleside the second being to go on the water some on the large ferry and others in a hired craft so some lake fishing could be done. We didn’t catch anything but it was fun giving it a go. 
Would I stay here again? In a moment! I’m definitely going to tell friends about it and will be looking at booking one of the smaller properties for a shorter break next year. I’m absolutely loved it! The Hall is beautiful and it’s location n’t be better.

I absolutely loved it!

Just to confirm that Brownber House really is as wonderful as the reviews suggest. It was our second visit and it is the nicest place to holiday, the house is beautifully appointed and there are wonderful local walks. The bread, marmalade and prosecco left for our arrival were so welcome and Peter is just the nicest host. I would repeat the recommendation to read the one terrible review and its response as it is very funny!

Fabulous place to stay

Another super week at Brownber House with our family.  It’s so comfortable and easy for all of us to stay at the house and we hope to stay again and again.  There is plenty of space for everyone and the house’s location makes it easy to reach various places of interest in the area, close to The Lake District too. 
Peter bakes the most delicious bread that you can add to the list of goodies you’d like to be left in the house for your arrival.
