We stayed here in July on our grand tour of the UK hence the very slow review. This hotel is a hidden gem in a beautiful location. We arrived after driving up from Manchester and were welcomed by Ben and shown through the hotel which is so much bigger than it looks, but still very homely. Ben explained breakfast as we had a non-refundable booking. Great idea guys having people book as it means everyone knows where they stand at 08:00 in the morning. 

We did the usual room check, tea, coffee etc (not that we drink much of that). We popped in the shower and decided on the plan for the afternoon walking or a drink. We planned on a walk after a drink in the end and never made it out LOL. Although Sam mentioned that walking to and from the bar counted (check your fitbit you can cover some millage LOL). As the G&T took full effect food was on our mind and the menu was perfect for us burgers and chicken we bought 3 Texan, 2 chicken, 2 crown burgers and multi tenders 15 I think (new record) and sides. We asked if things could be popped on platters so we could try bits and it wasn't an issue. After another few sips (pints) our platter arrived boy was it good and we did consider if we needed takeaway doggy boxes for the next day. You can tell it is all handmade and fresh. 

we stayed in the bar until about 23:00 and discussed whether we needed a breakfast around 19:00 and yes we did if the food earlier that night was anything to go by. We went and asked Ben who rang up and it was sorted. 

We stumbled through the building to our rooms and slept like the dead, at 07:45 feeling worse for wear my wonderful friends came knocking to remind me that breakfast was go. 

Sam and Steve met us in their breakfast nook and there was a nice range of cereals, fresh coffee & juice. To the main event the cooked one. Again exceptional food and enough to sort out the morning after feeling. I'm wondering if same can defy the laws of gravity though as the stacked items were just stood there.

Check out was a breeze and Sam was still flitting about with gravity defying plates. Ask her the Haggis story brilliant and hysterical.  

Thanks for a fab weekend guys, we'll be back when we're in the country again and will tell all our friends back home.

Visited Langholm and stayed here, the hotel and staff are very friendly and accommodating, food was lovely, rooms very comfortable, currently upgrading hotel and I'm sure it will be amazing when finished and keeps the old worldly charm

Lovely weekend, very relaxing and comfortable 

We stopped at The Crown in July 2023 for the common riding. We stop here every year and each time we stop we are always greeted with the warmest of welcomes from Sam,her family and the staff. 
Nothing is too much for the staff here and we always feel comfortable and happy on our stay. 
We had breakfast each morning along with a lovely latte and fresh orange juice to wash it down. Which is always lovely.
The bar in the hotel is also very welcoming with a good choice of alcohol including dry martini for my mum which is something we struggle to get for her. 
The hotel is having a refurb and having seen one of the rooms nearly completed I can honestly say it’s stunning but in keeping with the hotel. The restaurant is being turned into a grill restaurant. This will be a welcomed addition to Langholm as there is no other grill bar in the town. 
My mum struggles with her legs and breathing isn’t as good as it was but Sam has arranged for next time we stop for a room with easier access. Again nothing is too much trouble.

Lovely, relaxing stay at The Crown with a very friendly welcome year after year.

I visited recently with my sister and our dogs. The hotel is very dog friendly and has some lovely walks nearby along the river Esk. Kielder water in Northumberland is about a 35 minute drive away with some lovely scenery.

The rooms are clean and comfortable with plenty of tea and coffee.

The food is nicely cooked and portions are large. Just what you need after a full day walking

We've just returned from a great weekend away at this hotel. The team are friendly & we were made very welcome, the breakfasts are great & the wings out of this world. Great to see work being done in the building as we've been a few times over th past 10 years. 

Great hotel & fun.

I have been travelling through the UK and stopping in interesting places. This hotel is a delight with a fascinating history and so many traditions. Me and my travel companions were hungry and were wanting a light lunch, Crown Hotel didn't disappoint. We arrived and were warmly greeted, we were shown to a great room they lovingly call the coffee lounge (think of a comfy cosy sitting room with a big sofa and soft velvet chairs). We were given the menu and allowed to have a good look through it before we were approached to order (this makes a change places usually pounce in minutes).  We ordered Chicken burgers and tenders which were all made in-house, they were the best thing we'd eaten in a long time. We got talking to Sam and Steve and they were great hosts   There was no hurry and we were made to feel so welcome. If we're ever in the country again I know where we will book to stay. Thank you from your new American Friends.

Hidden Gem and wonderful hosts.

We stayed here a couple of weeks ago, sorry for the delay in leaving a review. Sam and Steve have a fantastic set-up there, the team all get on really well and you can see that Sam is the mum of the building lol, although that caring personality comes through with her guests.

We arrived after an eventful journey and wanted to relax and forget the ordeal of the day. I think the barman was called Ryan who showed us to our room it was a Friday (I hope that helps them pass the message on) Ryan took us up to our room and gave us the times for food and the all-important breakfast which we kept reading about. 

We freshened up with a hot shower (that makes a change to having a proper hot shower in a small hotel) and put our feet up with a cuppa. Again a nice amount of tea and coffee was available and we did get more. The bed in two is a little too comfortable after a few hour's nap (unintentional) we headed to the bar in search of booze and burgers. Both were available in abundance and the bar had its own chilled-out vibe with people coming and going (the bar staff knew the regulars by name and their drink by heart) saying that after the 2nd round, they had ours ready too with a simple smile over to the bar.

Food wow we couldn't fault the food so for £7.50 a head we enjoyed their homemade burgers one Chicken Spicy Boi and one Texan burger. All I can say is do not let the price fool you, the burgers were mouth-watering and beautifully presented. The next morning did not disappoint either we headed down for breakfast and Sam was there bright & breezy and far too cheerful for 08:00 on a Saturday morning. The coffee lounge was beautiful and so comfortable ( I can see how this place will look once Sam and Steve are finished). The coffee was beautiful and it makes a change that it was a proper coffee in a big cup (they understand a hangover). 

Sam went out back and came back with two full-cooked breakfasts again the standard was wonderful and you can tell they take pride in the quality of their food. You will have to ask her the story of the Langholm Haggis it is charming and highly entertaining. Thanks, guys we had a great stay and will be back.

Go as a guest and leave as family

One of the best Sunday carverys you can have in the whole of Scotland. Absolutely delicious, with a wide choice of meats and veggie options.  Great service and lovely staff. Would definitely return if I visit Scotland again.

Best Carvery ever

Came for a walking weekend and weather was terrible.  Steven and Samantha couldn't have been more helpful and friendly.  They allowed us to dry our kit downstairs and really looked after us.
Breakfast was fab and we had evening meal which was also really nice and good value for money. They are  making improvements on decor etc. But our room was very clean and beds were very comfy.

Very friendly place to stay

After a long walk with a soggy doggy, we found ourselves wet, cold and hungry. The Crown Hotel was just the thing we were looking for, we were given a warm welcome by Samantha & Steve who we later discovered were the owners. They were very welcoming and made sure our dogs were fussed over with ham, pup cups and loads of cuddles and scratches.  The lunch menu was lovely and there was something for everyone, the barman we didn't catch his name was friendly, professional and efficient. 

It was a Tuesday and so we took advantage of their BOGOF Burger offer, and having eaten in many places were pleasantly surprised with the food that arrived was perfect, hand-pressed burgers made to order, with the most divine skin-on fries, coleslaw. Not a single crumb was left, and the drinks were well priced. 

We were also amazed at the passion of Samantha & Steven they have boards with the  history of the towns Common Riding and whilst they are new to the hotel (Less than 2 years) they were able to explain the Common Riding and the history surrounding it.
