We treated ourselves to the Christmas Dinner experience - it was amazing.   The food was incredible and the staff were so friendly and attentive - it was stunning and I am grateful to all the staff for giving up their Christmas Day - thank you!

Amazing Christmas Dinner at the Roebuck

A memorable Christmas Dinner. I'm in an Old Boy's club (Yes, silly handshakes, no, not the Masons) and our Lodge likes to thank the Ladies for putting up with us all year - I'd heard good things, but this is A: A fantastic, well presented and welcoming country pub with a large function room and B: Some of the best food I've had in 56 years. C:? The staff were attentive, helpful and treated us like old friends - The Mrs and self had the pork - beautifully cooked from fine cuts and none of that 'I need a toothpick' after! The vegetables were all so local they could have had an Olde Sussex accent and the desserts left us gasping.  (I had profiterole/choc sauce, but the Christmas Crumble was amazing too) MASSIVE portions and the Chef came out personally to chat (He'll spill some secrets of the trade if you fancy raising your game) Thoroughly recommend The Roebuck to anyone after a special meal - PS The Gent's is worth a look, if only for the quirky fittings... 

A Christmas Dinner to remember; traditional food that ISN'T boring? Try this place!

A very nice welcome, log fires roaring and a good range of beers on offer. My wife and I had a traditional Sunday roast and although I enjoyed mine came with everything piled on top of each other and smothered with very thick gravy. I know this seems the way that a lot of restaurants want to serve their food nowadays but it can look more of a challenge than an appetising dish. This immediately puts my wife off and I wasn’t sure weather to eat mine or climb it.

Very welcoming traditional pub

We dropped in at the Roebuck Inn having passed it many times.
Good welcome & interesting bar lounge. Drinks were instant & order was taken efficiently & promptly. 
Nearly half an hour passed before our mains order appeared, after the other couple of patrons had been served.
Battered haddock meal was standard pub fare but my wife’s steak & ale pie was poor, meat tough & the vegetables alongside were excessively ‘al dente’ to raw.
An adjustment was made to our bill & profuse apologies offered for the food quality.
Not the most rewarding of experiences, sadly.

Friendly welcome but the food offering was unexceptional

We were given a gift voucher to spend on lunch or dinner as we were staying in the area and this pub came highly recommended.  We chose Sunday lunch and had the roast beef - was absolutely the best Sunday roast we have had in 12 months of being in the UK.  The meat was juicy and tender, the vegies perfectly roasted, the brownie dessert was fabulous.  Would highly recommend for a fab experience.  And the service was also welcoming and efficient, even though the pub was packed with people.  Thank you :-)

Best Pub Sunday Roast - would highly recommend

Had our wedding breakfast and evening do here. Was an exceptional day start to finish. Beautiful place and staff were amazing. The function room attached to the main pub where the day and evening took place is such a nice feature of the Roebuck and even has its own bar. The room has so much character about it, as does the pub. There are also 4 very cosy rooms where we and family stayed. We highly recommend this for anyone. 

Incredible wedding day

Pub with rooms. Our room was very small, comfortable enough but needed a thorough clean, lighting dingy. Opens into the car park so outside mud unavoidably walked in; noisy outside at night, especially when pub bottles dumped in bin after closing. Shower grouting all mouldy. Issues with room servicing. Price reasonable for the area. Parking adequate if a bit untidy. Pub very much a local, has character. Food tasty, robust and filling, excellent portions. Breakfast limited and not over fresh for us. We wouldn’t stay again but it’s OK for an overnight stay, not much else in area.

Basic pub accommodation, needs overhaul

Took the family out for a treaty lunch with drinks and had the best food and service ever - the pub is full of good energy , polite and helpful staff and they are even super dog friendly ! Would definitely recommend and will be returning next week 😃

Drinks and Sunday roast

staff could not have been more accomodating. wine list bit limited but our evening meal was delicious - only problem was size of portions. they were so big we didn't even manage to eat a third of our mains. 

breakfast needs to be improved in all honesty. given all the local farms in area was disappointed it wasn't fresher/ingredients of a higher quality.

key reason for 4 stars is because of the staff. they were fantastic.

We are not local and wanted to find somewhere off the beaten track and came across the Roebuck Inn and this fitted the bill perfectly. It was a Saturday lunchtime and it was busy as many wedding guests had gathered for pore ceremony drinks.
Enough staff on duty but nonetheless service was a bit haphazard which we put down to in-experience but we enjoyed our food and drink and would visit again.   We were not staying at the hotel.
