Arrived from 100 miles further north and I had barely got through the door and was immediately greeted with a lovely warm welcome while one of the customers invited me to join them nearer the warm fire. Brilliant !!

Tina showed me the menu and the selection was vast - vegetarians and vegans as well as hungry horses like me are all well catered for regarding choices.

The food arrived and the plate was massive, everything was fresh and it was absolutely delicious. Tina "insisted" that I should look at the dessert menu and I caved in ... again, lots to choose from and I went for a chocolate sundae. The chocolate flake was huge and, as a chocoholic, I was well pleased. Nicki (the chef) came to join us all for a chat and a delightful evening was had. I seriously do not know where the hours went !

When you find somewhere that has good food, wonderful hosts and NOT in a rush to move you on then you know for definite that you have found the perfect pub. This is such a place.

Hoping to return at the earliest opportunity, I need to work my way through that incredible menu :)

Could not wish for better hosts and the food was divine

I fervently maintain that the quality of an establishment's food can be determined by the number of cars in the carpark; the more the cars the better the food as people are keen to visit. The Marquis of Granby in Wellingore has no carpark so nothing to go on but we ploughed on nevertheless.

We were welcomed with a cheery smile by the pleasant landlady. We were shown to our table in the restaurant area, in fact we were offered any table as there was no-one else there. This is a reflection perhaps of the times we live in when a country pub is empty at lunchtime on a sunny Friday afternoon in early Summer.

The restaurant was clean and tidy with smart, wooden tables and comfortable chairs with houndstooth check upholstery. S Club 7 was playing through the speaker above the bar quickly followed by Madonna.

The menu was very comprehensive with the usual choice of ciabattas, sandwiches and jacket potatoes. There was a specials board but I opted for the Spinach Cannelloni in a creamy tomato sauce. Unusually this came with a choice of mashed potato or chips together with peas and carrots. So, apart from the veg it was heavy on the carbs. I chose the mashed potato. The dish would though benefit from a small salad of mixed leaves with perhaps a vinaigrette or French dressing instead of the mash, chips and veg.

Mrs Wanderer, by her own admission, was not adventurous and went for the Prawns with Marie-Rose sauce jacket.

The food arrived about 15 minutes later so was presumably cooked to order. Mrs Wanderer's jacket came with a surprising amount of prawns, a homemade coleslaw with cheese and a light salad which I think consisted of lettuce,  some tomato, cucumber, peppers and onion.

It was difficult to see how many cannelloni there were in the sauce but I'm guessing there were three. To be fair the pasta and the sauce were very tasty but the meal was let down by the dry, under seasoned (for my palette) mashed potato. The carrot batons were quite thick but, with the exception of the cannelloni sauce, the meal was dry.

On the plus side though both dishes were piping hot and the quantity left neither of us feeling hungry at the end.

All-in-all this is a traditional country pub and it serves traditional, simple, no frills meals. Not to everyone's taste perhaps.

At a push, if we were in the area, we would return but I wouldn't necessarily make it a destination.

Traditional Hearty Fayre

Staff very friendly and the food and beer very very good ,the staff make  the pub entertaining  and greatsense of humour ,there's plenty iof parking and a very good bus route Justin and  natasha  are great gun

Loverly staff

Wonderful food, great atmosphere and very reasonably priced. I'd thoroughly recommend for a family dinner! The kids menu is £6 and portions are huge! Been a couple of times now and the service is fantastic. Make sure you save enough space for pudding!

Wonderful family meal out

My wife and I visited the Marquis for a date night and it was lovely. Good value meals with significant portions, the atmosphere is welcoming and the staff are very friendly. Under new management and clearly making a real effort

Wonderful good, great service 

This place appears to be closed.  Although the Christmas menu and similar enticements are still displayed on the notice boards outside, and tables are set in the dining area inside, the doors are locked and the whole place seems deserted.  The star ratings I have given are, obviously, meaningless in this context.

Ex Marquis of Granby?

We stayed here last week for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our room was spotless throughout, the locals were very friendly. The barmaid was a gem, really looked after us, even giving us recommendations on where to visit. She even came in on her day off as we were having breakfast to say goodbye and wish us a safe travel home. The breakfast was delicious on both days and the owners mike and Stuart were great. We look forward to returning very soon

Superb

We stayed at Marquis of Granby 28th and 29th Sept. 
We chose this place as it is dog friendly. 
We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend there and the food was lovely 
Staff are friendly and can't do enough for you 
We will definitely be returning

Weekend treat

Arrived for a 3 night stay visiting air bases in the area. Perfect for Waddington, Coningsby, Cranwell etc. The aviation history for this area is second to none. In fact , it just comes a close second to the wonderful steak and ale pie served at the Duke. The chef that does the pie is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. In fact, as we were leaving the pub tonight we had a discussion as to what we would like for breakfast. Perfect!

Good value and Great food.

Called in on the off chance of getting a table, what a gem, everything about the place was lovely, the staff were so friendly & helpful, but best of all was the dinner itself. Beef, Pork or Chicken cooked to perfection, all fresh seasonal vegetables & the gravy well it was liquid heaven (apparently Chef's own recipe). Looking forward already to our next family luncheon catch up.
