This is a really characterful pub/hotel. The staff are lovely and the rooms really comfortable - pillows are a little hard but the beds are lovely!.
Food is great! Typical pub food but really nice.
There’s no lounge as such but the bar area is great with an open fire. 
It seems like lots of people’s local which is nice.
Would stay again.

A hotel full of character

Great place to stay. All the staff were happy and friendly. The landlady was lovely and very helpful. Rooms clean and a good size, shower was great.   Breakfast good, nice portion size and plenty to choose from.  Less than 10 minutes drive from the castle.

Great place to stay for weddings at the castle

A stunning place to stay for the night. A warm welcome, comfy room, fantastic food and drink, and a lovely breakfast. Would highly recommend and the staff are just so attentive and kind. Excellent. We Roo’s our dog Peggy and she was also made very welcome and received lots of treats and fuss. Will return.

Excellent stay.

Stayed one night to travel down to South Wales. Hotel amazing. Helen the manager made us feel so welcome. The room was lovely with a comfortable bed. We had dinner & breakfast the next day, both meals were superb. The atmosphere of the hotel was also lovely. Lots of history about the building. Only disappointment was we couldn't find the musket hole from the Civil war. We will stay there again & recommend to others.

Great stay

Booked for 2 nights.Rooms OK, food good. Customer service rubbish. Manageress no idea - laughed when said no Loo paper in the room.  She took our order for dinner but got it completely wrong - no apology. Another couple were reduced to tears because if her attitude.

Great welcome, service and food.
Proper roast Sunday lunch with a selection of 3 meats, plus a full menu of alternative dishes for those not wanting a roast on a Sunday. Delicious homemade Yorkshire pudding!
Good wine list, some wines a little expensive; but still a good choice at various price points.
Welcoming and attentive staff and great atmosphere!

Good venue for a traditional Sunday lunch!

Awesome hotel. Manager is a genius and seems to be everywhere at once without being intrusive. Great bar, open fire and incredibly comfortable bed.

Pay for the upgrade unless you and six friends live with Snow White. Really good experience.

We stayed at the lovely Talbot Hotel on Saturday night. From the moment we walked through the door we were greeted like old friends. All the staff, and not forgetting the manager, were so friendly and helpful. The hotel is full of character and very quirky, but also very homely feeling. There is a lot of history relating to the hotel too. There is an open fire in the bar, which gave a lovely warmth to the evening we spent in there. Everywhere is spotlessly clean, the bedding is of high quality and the towels are fluffy and snow-white. We all found the beds to be very comfortable. They are on the firm side, but that is our preference anyway. We chose (there were four of us, two couples) to eat in the restaurant on Saturday evening as there was a good choice of food. We all had the fish and chips and it was beautiful and very well presented with a smile from our lovely waitress. Three of us opted for the sticky toffee pudding and one for the blackberry and apple crumble….very tasty and yummy!
My husband and my friend’s husband enjoyed their pints of Butty Bach too. The Talbot is ideally situated for visiting both The Cotswolds and The Malvern Hills by car. We stopped off at Hereford on our way back to Cardiff and enjoyed that too.
There are also plenty of lovely shops to visit on the high street just outside the front door of The Talbot. We will definitely return here in the future, very happy guests all round.

Highly recommended for a stay!

We stayed at the Talbot for a friends wedding nearby. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. Room clean and comfortable. Breakfast excellent. Lunch in the pub also tasty. The manager was incredibly kind and posted my shoes back to me after I left them behind. Thank you so much. Highly recommend.

Lovely hotel and pub

Came for dinner. Food OK but nothing special (calamari and chicken burger both over-cooked). Our table was at 7.30 and we had starters and mains. Both took a little time to arrive but staff were friendly. Our mains plates were collected about 8.40 but we weren't offered the dessert menu. When we managed to grab a waiter's attention for the dessert menu we were informed that, as it was after 9pm, the kitchen was closed so we could not have any dessert. Pretty shoddy!
