Favorite place of all. Been there several times through the last 30 years. An original place. Great location if you want to go fishing in the River Wye, or hiking or just explore the beautiful landscape. The staff is very kind and helpful and the food is excellent. Looking forward to our next stay.

Not been here for many years but after seeing Facebook we decided to give it a try.  We were not disappointed.  The food was exceptional,  the welcome was warm  and  more importantly, we were not rushed. A thoroughly enjoyable evening and we will definitely go again.

Evening meal 

Nice old fashioned pub with great local beers. Large beer garden with friendly and helpful staff. 
Had a very enjoyable lunchtime in the garden and enjoyed the food as well as the beer. Plenty of space to park tandems. 
A short stroll takes you to the river, which is lovely.

Charming red brick former coaching Inn set in a quiet hamlet near the Wye and a popular destination for fishermen. Very pleasant landlord, staff and locals. Bedroom was large, bed comfortable and shower room very clean. Food excellent, good choice at breakfast, and evening meals included a wonderful chicken pie and the next night beef brisket with port. Soups...leek and potato, and tomato and basil were also good. To be recommended.

Enjoyable stay

We chose the hotel to fish the local River Wye.... Not good in the recent heatwave from a fishing perspective. But the Owners and Staff were excellent and the hotel was spotless. Superb bar with great beers and of course good banter and fishy tales. Lovely place and only 15 minutes from Hay on Wye. We will 100% be back.

Excellent and Friendly Hotel

Visited the Red Lion on the 19th September for my first visit. Found the staff to be very welcoming and accommodating. The food was really nice and the kitchen staff went out of their way to accommodate my 1 year old. Will be returning.

Sunday Roast

A great place to stay and fish in an old coaching inn/pub/hotel,great food, and the best owner and staff. Highly recommend as a base to fish the local river Wye. One of the premier rivers for Barbel and Chubb with five to six miles of river to fish, good access with the right vehicle. Levels are greatly affected by rainfall and can change in hours.

Brilliant stay, the owner and staff are really accommodating and friendly. Comfortable clean accommodation with ample parking. The breakfasts were traditional and well proportioned, a delight to start the day, the evening menu was full of lovely comfort food and very enjoyable, and varied throughout the week.

Stay and fishing

Mike and the Red Lion team made us very welcome and helped direct us to the fishing.
River is low at present and fish were confined to a few specific locations so moving around is crucial.
You need to be physically fit to clamber around the banks but scenery is fabulous.
Very relaxing and like going back in time to when the pace of life was slower.

Mike is a charming and genuine host with a great sense of humour.
His team are attentive and equally charming.
The fishing is nearby 
Wild , natural and lovely scenery.
Be warned you have to work hard to catch but the chat/banter over dinner in the evenings is so much a part of the whole experience.
Second time I’ve been and will be going again and again!
Cannot big this place up enough 👍🏼
