Both myself and my wife stayed at the Rokeby Inn for 4 nights this review is based on the establishment the room we stayed in the staff and the food we had, the Rokeby Inn is a family owned/run hotel, the rooms are lovely and clean with room service daily, the staff are so friendly and attentive they can not help you enough no matter what you ask for, the food is outstanding home cooked and the kind of food that you just want to eat when hungry don’t be fooled thinking that you won’t get a good night sleep because this hotel is situated on the busy A66 as this is not the case, I am a very light sleeper and at no time did any cars or trucks waken myself or my wife from a sleep, I have given This establishment 5 stars as it is well worthy of them and I will certainly be back to the Rokeby Inn again.

Weekend break

Stayed here in August 2023 for my partners birthday and brought our two dogs along. We had evening meal in the pub and when paying for the evening meal which was a good few hours after check in were informed that there is a £15 charge per dog per night which was not stated at the time of booking as I had paid online. This was a shock to us as I expected to be informed of this at time of booking and paying. Room was nice but bed and pillows extremely uncomfortable and no hot water in shower or bath. We went for breakfast at 09:07am to be greeted that it had finished at 9am. No one told us the time breakfast would be served. The lady who serving breakfast was extremely rude and refused to serve us stating that there was a note in the bedroom which stated time of breakfast. Went back to room and no more had been left informing of breakfast times. I informed that I had paid for breakfast and again was greeted with rudeness and a disrespectful attitude towards us as guests. We then left the hotel. Very disappointed as was supposed to be a relaxing weekend for my partners birthday. Would definitely never stay here again!

DO NOT STAY HERE

We stopped on our way home from Scotland for a meal. The food was delicious, good value for money and the service was fast and friendly. The pub has character and it was very clean. Stanley the puppy was very enthusiastic to see us as well. 

Fabulous food

We stopped off on our way back from Scotland and had the most fabulous meal and wonderful service from Sophie who was totally delightful  and so friendly.

The ham, egg &  chips and fish & chips were delicious and three clean plates all-round!!!  The chips are just the best and the fish batter was so light and fluffy too. 

Also loved the location and all of the doggie delights! Bought a fab selection of these to take back from a friends dog!

We are so pleased we turned off when we did and our lovely meal and experience certainly made the last 200 miles of our journey home a lot more enjoyable. Thank you to all involved 😊👍💗



A wonderful stop off with great food and fantastic hospitality.,,

Wonderful country pub with such character. The food was incredible and the service was exceptional - thank you Sophie. We will definitely be making this a regular stop when we are making journeys past!!

Must stop

A wonderful country pub on the side of the 66 making it perfect for a stop on a long/ short journey. There was a lovely woman who served us and she was so chatty and welcoming (I felt like I was speaking to my friend). 

The food was to die for and the fish and chips were perfection - better than any Ive ever had before - you put try the homemade chips.

We also got a doggie icecream for our little pooch and he loved it.

Will definately be back!! Highly recommended.

A good local experience

The food was nice but very small portions. We opted for a regular sized meal rather than a large as we've ordered large at other establishments before and couldn't eat it all.  When the two roast beef dinners arrived they were served on what appeared to be small fish plates and there was two slices of beef, one Yorkshire pudding, one roast potato,  a dessert spoon full of carrots and a dessert spoon full of garden peas, gravy served separately in a small gravy boat. The rest of the vegetables were served separately in a small dish, two tiny pieces of broccoli,  two small pieces of cauliflower and two tablespoons of mashed potatoes! I was really shocked at the potion sizes as this was not cheap at neigh on £13 per cover!!!! ....I asked the waitress to bring us more vegetables and stated that there wasent enough served for two people.... well not two adults as I really think these portions are child sized. She came back and informed us that if we wanted more it would be another £4.00 ....we agreed as we were hungry and we knew that we would not be full without.  When she served the extra vegetables she reminded us not to leave without paying for them lololol ....we had already paid for the dinners beforehand... I really thought this comically rude. My husband went to pay for the veg, the landlord took the extra £4.00 then said he wouldn't have charged us .... err you just did. Its a shame really because the food is very nice, freshly cooked and tasty but unfortunately we won't be back as is not really value for money. ..... we had a takeaway that evening because we were hungry a few hours later and that's a first for us when we have been out for Sunday lunch.

Sunday lunch..... very small portions,  regular size is a child's portion in size . Nice but just to small!

We stayed a night at this Inn with our two dogs. The room was smelly and unclean. The wash hand basin was cracked. We had dinner there which was mediocre and quite expensive for what, it was. In the morning we wanted to let our dogs out and the front door was locked (it was also the Fire Exit) we had to wait an hour and a half for the owner to appear to unlock the door. When we suggested it was quite dangerous to lock the fire exit which was the front door, she was extremely rude. This rudeness carried on through breakfast and she continued her abuse, completely unacceptable. Her  employers liability insurance certificates that were on display were also three years out of date. We will not be going back, and I can not recommend it to anyone…

Extremely rude owner…

I booked for my parents to visit for 2 nights. From beginning to end the service I received, and they received was excellent.

Dad has trouble walking, so I received a video from the owners showing me their room and how far they would have to walk to the car and the restaurant. This was fantastic customer service, above and beyond; and put  any fears mum and dad had to rest.

I am told the room was clean, and well equipped for their needs. 

The meals were "sensational" according to both of them and the waitress service fantastic and friendly too.

The owners also excelled by giving them scenic directions for a day out.

Overall, I would wholeheartedly recommend this place.
