Just returned from a three day stay in Charlotte House Hotel. We chose it due to its location near the cathedral for a graduation ceremony. 

Let me start by saying this is a lovely hotel, in a brilliant location overlooking the castle. It has a coffee shop/cafe right outside serving real coffee, and a lovely tapas restaurant opposite. It also has several pubs and restaurants within a few minutes walk. There is a car park right outside which is only £9.50 for 24 hours. 

The staff were lovely and helpful, always happy to chat and tell you about the history of the new owners. 

So that tells you one important thing, this hotel has recently been sold to new owners. Yes there are tired parts, but go look at the bits they have already done. They are restoring it to a high standard with a luxurious art deco feel. There is a sign up explaining that prices are reduced whilst the refit takes place, so some areas and rooms will be a little bit tired, but we found it part of its charm. 

Understandably, they are doing the wedding rooms first. Our room hadn’t been updated, but we really liked it. It had all we needed and lots of character as well. It was clean, comfortable, had lovely original pieces of furniture and didn’t feel like your typical mass owned hotel with identical rooms. We had room 1 which is a two bedroom suite, allowing us to be with our two daughters, but not sharing a room. It was ideal. The main room was very spacious, and the second room was a good size as well.  We had a lovely new bathroom suite with roll top bath and waterfall shower. 

The breakfast was continental, as we knew, but right outside in the cafe/coffee shop you can get cooked breakfasts for under £10 if you prefer that. We were all happy with continental breakfast which had a selection of cereal, pastries, toast, meats and cheese, as well as fresh coffee and tea selection. The lady working there was topping everything up as it ran out, but if she was called away she would do it as soon as she came back. It may mean if you arrive at a busy time there’s a slight wait, but she always came to do it. They were also quick to provide gluten free bread and oat milk to help with food intolerances. 

I thought the area was lovely, not particularly noisy, but I suppose when the restaurant customers leave you might hear them, but it isn’t open too late. 

Overall, we will be going back, and can’t wait to see how it develops as they renovate the rest.

Thank you so much Charlotte House Hotel, my husband and I had our wedding there on 28th March 2024. Everything was incredible, the venue, the food, the whole day was the most amazing day of my life. I can not thank Karis, Sally and the rest of the amazing team that made our day so special.

The wedding of my dreams xx

My eldest daughters wedding was held here on 6th April. The ceremony itself was fantastic, the room was beautiful and, I'm told, the organiser was amazing. 

However, for the cost,  our room was very tired and in desperate need of renovation. The wallpaper was ripped and clumsily patched. The flooring in the bathroom had raised which prevented the door opening easily and quietly,  a problem when there is a 2yr old asleep in the room. The windows rattled in the breeze and the bright emergency exit green light was in immediate line of sight from the bed.

For the cost of the room I felt the self service continental breakfast was poor. 
Coffee and hot water FLASKS ran out both mornings and took a while to fill up as staff were difficult to locate. I feel at least a full English option would be appropriate if not a more varied menu. 

My biggest problem, however, is that I, on behalf of the bride and groom,  paid a £50 REFUNDABLE deposit PER ROOM to secure the rooms for the wedding guests. This was to be refunded by the hotel when the guests paid for their rooms. Payment was secured by the hotel when guests checked in not out. The bride and groom have been told the deposits will not be refunded. The hotel management have said the reason is that ownership of the hotel has changed and the new owners are not responsible for the deposits. Not happy and considering pursuing legal options.

Not happy.

NOISY. Impossible to sleep. Constant noise outside on Saturday night . Staff polite. Room good. Convenient for castle and cathedral quarter. Nice bathroom. Parking extra. Attractive building. Clean towels. Unfortunately quiet is my top priority. Am writing at 1 17 a m and it is still so noisy. Forgot earplugs. Maybe hotel should include these in the rooms?

A very noisy location.

Grubby and needs work doing. The hotel bar was not open. Also there was a wedding planned so breakfast was not organised well and had to wait for a table, no bin to put rubbish in either. Room very grubby and needs a complete overhaul. Also no lift so if you have luggage and on 2nd floor then could be a struggle. Location was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful.

Great location, hotel needs a facelift.

We had our whole wedding day there on September 1st. We honestly cannot say enough about how smoothly the day went, they catered to every need we had. Natalie,  keiran and the rest of the Charlotte House team were amazing. Thank you for everything, all of our guests had an amazing day, those that stayed over all slept well and have complemented you all on the hospitality given/shown to them. Thank you for making our wedding day so special 💗

We would highly recommend this venue if you want to visit Lincoln or have your wedding there.
5 stars doesn't seem enough.  10/10 from us.

Our Wedding Day

Charlotte House is in a great location for the historic quarter of Lincoln. 
The room was a good size with large wardrobe, drawers and dressing table. However the window didn't close. The blinds were broken so wouldn't raise. The shower cublicle had mould in the grout that was ingrained. Worst of all was the 'Continental Breakfast'. Apart from yogurt, cereals and white or brown bread for toast and one type of cheese or salami everything was packeted. The first day you had a choice of a sweet muffin, croisant, pain au chocolate along with 3 types of breakfast biscuit. On day two the muffins were absent, day three there weren't any croisants either, day four the pain au chocolate were gone too. Day five we actually had fresh pain au chocolate, but it didn't make up for lack of choice of the middle three.

This doesn't work if you don;t have time for  a sit down breakfast. I ended up going elsewhere to purchase something suitable.

Great location. Tired building needing repair and redecoration.

We stayed here with some friends for Asylum Steampunk Festival over the August Bank Holiday weekend - Charlotte House is in a great location, with ample parking, so we were in the centre of the action. 

The rooms were of a good standard, but were tired in places - light bulbs needing replacing, and the decor showed signs of age, with evidence of damp in places. 'Continental breakfast' was included, but the choices of pre packaged pastries disappeared after one day!

It would also have been nice if the bar in the hotel was available for guests to use in the evening, or if there was extra indoor communal space for guests to use at night - we had used the breakfast area to sit down in one afternoon but were asked to vacate the space as the staff needed to get it ready for breakfast the next day. 

One concern, however, was that staff were quite happy to give out the names of guests to others when asked - I would suggest reminding them about GDPR to ensure the safety and security of guests in future. 


OK, but could do better!

Price for us was the best we could find in Lincoln for a BH weekend.
Right in the centre of the events
Booked 2 room for my family and requested they were close as our daughters are teenagers. 
1 room (huge), 1st floor, carpark end of building.
1 room 2nd floor, opposite end of building overlooking the Victoria Inn.
Both rooms were clean and well serviced.
"Continental" breakfast was basic and adequate.
I can't understand why the bar wasn't open when the hotel was full. Guests resorted to sitting in the unlit (and increasingly chilly) seating area outside the Hotel with beverages purchased elsewhere.
That said, I'll look at booking for 2024.

 


Great price, location. Wot no bar?

Badly stained mattress in twin room, basic, Old furniture, heavy noisy doors. Breakfast very poor just prepackaged pastries and only sliced bread, no fresh rolls to go with one type of meat and cheese, and no cooked food unless you count a porridge pot which you add hot water to. Would not go again.
