We stayed in a twin here and it was so welcoming and friendly, lots of smiley employees and a basic but nice room! I so enjoyed my breakfast and stay here and would recommend it to anyone. Thanks again! And thanks for being so hospitable!

My husband and I stayed for 1 night on 18 February after Storm Eunice had hit.

We were let down by the accommodation we should have been staying in, with a one day delay before we could check in, but managed to locate Eliot House Hotel near to were we needed to be as we were stranded.

We were checked in within 15 minutes of my phone call to the hotel.  The staff were really friendly and sympathetic to our plight.

Our room was clean with a kettle, tea, coffee and hot chocolate available.

The bar had a good choice of drinks.

Breakfast on Saturday morning was freshly cooked to order, with plenty of choice.

Check out was 10am but because we were unable to check-in to our pre-booked accommodation until later, the owner let us stay in our room as it was not booked for later that day and the weather was still pretty awful.  We are extremely grateful.

Yes, as stated in some other reviews, the furnishings are a bit dated but it was clean, the staff were welcoming the food was good and the wi-fi worked.  We consider we had value for money.

Excellent breakfast, very friendly

Stayed here this week and it’s Faulty Towers for the 2000’s.  The room was just the pits with sticky carpets and decor from the 1970’s.  I showered before I got into bed and showered after getting out of bed in the morning whilst walking out. It’s just all a tad dirty.  Breakfast also served by someone as competent as Mrs Overall….

Horrendous. The decor and carpets has clearly been salvaged from the 1970s and is just worn. My room felt like a bail hostel. See photos of black damp mould marks in the bathroom. The shower didn’t work right. The whole room smelt like a wet dog. I got on the bed and the pillows stunk -  just rank, clearly a person who doesn’t wash must have slept in the room and they’ve permeated the actual pillows.

I’ve slept in some hotels and honestly this is amongst the worst!

Some money needs to be spent, the outside looks like the hotel out of crossroads if it hadn’t been touched since the when they program ended in the 1980s.

I didn’t dare touch the breakfast or even the kettle - if they can’t clean a room what chance have you got with the food. 

On the positive it’s only a walk to centre of the village.

Welcome to the 1970s

Spent 4 nights at this hotel and a fair review follows. Check in was painless as we had already done it online. We were allocated room 1 (1st door top of stairs) room large and appeared to be ok on first impressions.
However on entering the bathroom we were met by a black mouldy shower head and hose.
The over mirror light bulb wasn’t working either and the tiles on window shelf were broken and cracked. 
Didn’t report it as no housekeeping available and to be honest it shouldn’t have been found like it in the first place - see photos attached.
This was difficult for me to shower as I wasn’t sure what I was getting sprayed with.
Not much else to report apart from other guests have to walk past this room and they were noisy. There was also a wedding party on the Wednesday evening which was very loud and we even had one of their guest enter our room?
Breakfast was ok but no fresh fruit and no choice if you were wanting to eat healthily.
Was very average!

Average stay

Arrived at the hotel to check in. The girl working was very helpful although obviously rushed of her feet managing reception and the bar on her own.
Room was dated and in need of some TLC and cleaning. The en-suite was small the toilet seat was broken. The shower water didn’t drain away making the shower un useable. 

Breakfast was good although service extremely slow, again only one girl working trying to serve clear away and deal with reception. 

On checking out the owner of the hotel was on duty. We mentioned the issues with the shower. His response was oh yes is it still slow to drain - hope it didn’t ruin your stay and at least you were able to wash your feet! No apology or offer of discount.

We certainly won’t be staying here again and if you are reading this review after booking a room if you get room 3 check the shower drainage before using it!

Awful experience: blocked shower and broken toilet

good stopover point, all staff very friendly with good suggestions on where to eat in the evening, didn't appear to mind if we took takeaways back to our rooms. good breakfast. cant fault it. clean tidy, plenty of parking space, locked our bicycles away inside the hotel overnight which was great.

Cnt recomend this place enough We booked here at very last min an i couldnt be more happy. The staff are lovely an very accomodating. Derek the owner is a lovely guy an did a fab breakfast each morning nothing too much trouble for him. I enjoyed chatting with him in bar area on an evening. Really looking forward to going back in new year. 

Break away

Had a nice stay in this hotel Tuesday to Sunday. Staff very friendly. food good. Would stay again. owner derek was most helpfull on arrival.. stayed in rm 1 which i spotless,lots of linen,lots of tea,milk etc for whole stay..breakfast was really tasty,with lots of choices...bar service was excellent and these staff deserve special praise

A nice place to stay

Thank you to Derek who helped us in our time of need and was able to provide us a room for three nights in August after a mix up at the hotel we had booked. Room was great and had everything we needed. The breakfast was really nice with the added bonus that you could have whatever you liked rather than it being a strict set menu. This really set us up for the day of sightseeing around Cornwall. 
The hotel is very clean and has hand sanitiser and wipes everywhere for when you need it and the staff wore visors and masks so we felt very safe. The hotel is in a great location for many beautiful areas of Cornwall which you may like to visit and has a big car park at the rear.
