A lovely friendly welcome from very accommodating hosts.  Bright fresh room, no traffic noise, excellent wifi, well stocked tea tray with fresh milk and including the most excellent coffee bags.
Delicious food - the breakfast was one of the very best I have ever had, as not only were the ingredients absolutely delicious, they were carefully and perfectly cooked, and served on a hot plate.  Being a huge fan of the English cooked breakfast I both recognise and appreciate an excellent standard.  There was also the most gorgeous home-made marmalade (as well as the selection of cereals etc. one normally expects).

Overnight stay

Not many places can blow me away, but the Golden Lion seems to have managed!  We got there at about six o'clock in the evening, and were met by Karen, the owner, who made us feel incredibly welcome, being bright, cheerful and just generally lovely.  We were shown to our room, which was really retro, although with modern fittings, and it was really atmospheric.  'Er Indoors was raving about at it still the following morning.  Major Smartie point - proper milk, not that awful UHT stuff in plastic sachets, and a great variety of teas, coffees, hot fruit drinks and the like.  Down for dinner, and a dining room with so many quirky bits and pieces - a mock window with a superbly painted cartoon all relevant to the Golden Lion, a huge acrylic painting of a lion that I could cheerfully have nicked, other pictures and things, a lot of it themed around music - the owner (male) is a superb guitarist.  Then came the meal!!!  I have never seen such a beautifully prepared and presented gammon steak - properly cut through the fat so that it lies flat and the fat becomes crispy and delectable.  Odd, that, normally I'm not a fan of the fat.  The thing was huge - about an LP in size, if you're old enough to remember them, with a wonderful fresh egg, fresh mushrooms, garden peas, cherry tomatoes and chips.  The Boss had the haddock which she tells me was absolutely brilliant.  There was a great choice of desserts, but neither of has had the space to put one!  The beer a nice hoppy bitter, served at EXACTLY the right temperature.  We waddled upstairs like a couple of demented penguins.  The bed was comfortable in the extreme, and I slept better than I have in weeks - although that might have been the after-effects of the food!  Morning, and breakfast.  Two huge, quality rashers, three sausages because I'd made a joke about it, a massive fried egg (specially chosen, again a joke), hash brown, mushrooms, oven baked cherry tomatoes (17 out of 10) and loads of toast.  We really felt cossetted all through our stay, and whilst I'm sure that many of us say that we will return, there is no doubt whatsoever that we will.  I can't recommend the place highly enough, and the couple that owned it were two of the nicest people you could hope to meet.  They even let me play the drum-kit in the lounge!!!!!  A truly superb place to stay (despite my rather rusty drumming!)

Go!  Stand not upon the order of going, but Go!!  Now!  No Excuses!

old fashioned pub with old fashioned rooms, good food and owners who could not be more helpful. Quiet area, got a good nights sleep. Food was standard fare but good and the gluten free options were fine.

friendly owners, nice food

Just one night stay as attending local wedding with my 11yo daughter. The communication via email during booking procedures was excellent. Had no problems checking in after the wedding and before the evening reception. 
The hosts were lovely and even checked with me i was happy in a double room having to sleep with my daughter (which i was). The room was lovely and clean and plenty of coffee & tea supplies in the room with a complimentary kitkat. 
We came back late and fell into bed and it was really, really comfortable. The pair of us had a wonderful nights sleep. Breakfast was served from 07:30 until 08:30 and we came downstairs about 08:15, we were told we could arrive for breakfast at 08:30 and still get served and relax before check out at 10am. The breakfast was divine and nothing was too much trouble for them. My daughter loved the tea that they made. 
The en-suite was small but nothing negative there either, lovely shower and again, complimentary shower/shampoo wash available if you’d forgotten your own. Lovely soft towels available as well. Definitely a lovely, quiet relaxing place to stay and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again if i was in the area.

This is in a very quite location, ideal if you want to have total peace and quite.  The hosts Rob and Karen made us feel very welcome, and couldn't do enough for us.  Food outstanding and piping hot, made fresh that day, steak pie to die for!!!  Also try the Welsh Gin, Henstone very nice indeed, had to have a second one just to make sure.  This is distilled just down the road, so pop in on the way home to pick up a bottle.  Would deffo go again.

Very Welcoming Hosts

Rooms a bit retro for me but everything in working order and comfy. Karen and Rob were really friendly and nice to chat with too. Perfect location as directly on the Offas Dyke Path which we were walking. Evening meal was fine and breakfast was excellent to start the next leg of the walk. Great stay.

Very welcoming and friendly

This is a simple pub B&B.  The staff are all willing and friendly.  The rooms are clean and tidy without being memorably nice.  Bathrooms were small with weak showers.  Breakfast was good. Wifi only worked when I sat in the hall outside my room. Access to rooms is up a steep staircase.

A convenient location on Offfas Dyke path

A very unwelcome response from the Golden Lion both times we made contact asking about opening hours and then about a room. Cold, brusque and largely unhelpful. It certainly felt like guests were not an important feature at this pub.
