Perfect for location but room dated and tired. The noise from the wine bar downstairs kept us up until gone 2am so if you’re looking for peace don’t stay here. Breakfast not included in already expensive price, and with so many other hotels maybe need to up their game. Staff are lovely and friendly but won’t book to stay here again.

Felt let down

I booked to stay here for one night with my daughter, who was performing in a show at the town hall (a stone's throw from Gales). 
We were made to feel so welcome by the staff, and the breakfast was DELICIOUS. 
French toast with strawberries and cream was a particular hit, and the scrambled eggs were the best I have had anywhere.

It was so good, we booked for a second night too. We were really glad we did. 

The whole place is such a treat. The bed was really comfy, and the wine bar is a very special place where locals and visitors mingle in the cosy atmosphere. 

The room was toasty warm, and the towels are huuuuuuge!! (big plus from me!).

The staff were all superb, but a special mention for Robert, who was the person we saw most, and he was very friendly and engaging with my daughter. 

We had a very special time and would love to stay again. 

Yes, you can hear the street noise if you are 'street side', and yes you can hear if the person above you comes back at 03:50, but who cares? The rest of the positives more than make up for this. 

I hope this place never changes.

Enjoyed two-night stay at this friendly hotel. The double room was basic, with old fashioned furniture, but clean and comfortable. The staff could not have been more helpful and the interesting old building is well positioned, in easy walking distance of the centre of Llangollen, which is well worth visiting for its wide rushing river, train trip through the countryside and horse-drawn barge trips.

Warm Welcome At Interesting Hotel

Outside the two bedroom “cottage” was a disaster ,no outside lights when we returned late as various pots and ladder ,scaffolding etc are in the “courtyard “inside the remote controls for tvs were not working as mentioned by another guest on their review so owners are not listening to the reviews posted or maybe just do not care 

Never again

The food in the wine bar was excellent on 2 nights. Steak, duck and sea bass all highly recommended. The vast wine list is unusual in that it is devoid of the vastly overpriced numbers common to such lists and affordable only to bankers and plutocrats. Instead, the markups are surprisingly modest, allowing us to sample some delicious Joseph Drouhin burgundy for £32.

Our room was OK and the beds comfortable.

But it wasn’t cleaned  at all on the first night, and when, at check out, I mentioned this I was told that “ we don’t clean rooms unless specifically asked to”.

I must say that this latest - and most egregious - manifestation of laziness masquerading as concern for the planet simply marks the culmination of the steady erosion of standards with which hotel guests have been compelled to accept. First they came for the clean towels…



Great food, spaced out service

Just had a one night stay  for a family get together.  Great value for money  comfortable and well appointed room.(No 4.). Would definitely stay again. All staff helpful polite and friendly especially Rob . Ps hope you're foot feels better.  £6 voucher per person  towards food or drink a great incentive.

Overnight stay

Rooms are tired and in need of some TLC and a deep clean.
Previous guests towels hung on the back of the door, toilet roll on the bathroom floor, tv remote didn’t work, and no teaspoons were a few of the things we noticed. If we’d have been asked if we enjoyed our stay, we’d have made the staff aware of these points.
Disappointing and could be so much nicer - needs some money spending on the building / rooms.

Disappointing

Stayed for a few days to enjoy the hospitality of generous and considerate host (Pip) and staff; including Steve, Lilly and the rest of the team!
We thoroughly enjoyed hearty breakfast and lunch as well as delicious late suppers. The coffee is excellent too!
There was some entertainment on in the wine bar in the evening too; which appeared to be enjoyed by all and added to the atmosphere of a favourite haunt of visitors and locals alike!!

Gales of laughter and fun!

Popped in for breakfast with my partner, what a little hidden gem in Llangollen. Great service, great menu for breakfast not just your standard options, amazing food and lovely staff. The restaurant has a great feel to it. Will recommend to family and friends can’t wait to come back and try the different options.

Great breakfast

Fabulous stay at the Gales - we were made so welcome and looked after by Rob. The wine garden was fantastic as was the food. The belly pork with cassoulet is highly recommended. The DJ played our type of music (for the oldies). A great place to celebrate with family.
