I am sorry that this establishment seems to have had bad reviews.  Our experience was entirely different.  We booked about 12 hours before we arrived at our destination as it was a spur of the moment decision to take a break away.  We booked on line.  I then saw the feedback and was a little bit apprehensive.  However, on arrival at 5.30 pm we were greeted with a smile and a welcome from Mary the owner.  There was no sign of any antaganism because we were early on the contrary we couldnt have been more welcomed if we had been royalty.  We were shown to our room which was fine.  Clean and tidy.  We arent the sort of people who worry about whether the bedding is patterned or plain or whether the curtains are red, green, blue or yellow.  As long as clean that should be all that matters.  There was a clean ensuite with an excellent shower.  We could just about see the sea but what the hell we were not going to be in our room other than to sleep. A sleep which I might add came swiftly on getting into the most comfortable bed.  I had a non disturbed 7 hours solid, as did my husband.   At breakfast time we entered the dining room and had a beautiful view of the owners garden which was obvious it had a lot of time not only spent on running a B&B but also tending a beautiful kept garden. I understand Mary runs her Aromatherapy and Relaxation Centre from the premises but we were already relaxed after our sleep.  There was plenty of cereals to choose from and then Mary's husband cooked and served our breakfast which was very nice and cooked to OUR LIKING.  He stopped to chat and was very friendly and asked us about our trip. We also had free wifi which seems to be a priority in this day and age but even if there had not have been this service it wouldnt have been the end of the World.  All in all an excellent one night stay for us and within our budget.   You can always pay double for modern, uptodate "whatever" but we found this B&B and the owners very charming. If you enter with bad attitude, serves you right if you get answered back. Well done Mr & Mrs Rees.  We would certainly stop again if in the area. Each to their own but we were very satisfied. Thank you.

Last minute decision to take a weekend break.

Where do we start? From the moment the door was opened and we were assaulted by the stale, musty, dog smell, we knew things were not going to be good.

Unfortunately, we were in a bind and had already paid, so we stayed. 

This place can best be described as a very low-budget hostel. It boasts the worst beds we "slept" on during our entire 6 week holiday, and we can only assume that the cobwebs and spiders were free of charge.

The owner is possibly the rudest we've ever met, and is clearly in the wrong line of work. First of all, check in is 6pm, departure strictly 10am, so you're buying a bed for a total of 16 hours.

The name of the place brings to mind a beautiful, relaxing, environment. It's just a house, with what appears to be their grown children's rooms converted into meagre accommodation.

We arrived just after 6pm, then went to Aberystwyth for supplies. By the time we returned, I was very unwell, with a high fever and the shivers and shakes. My wife told them that I was unwell. I was so unwell the following morning that we missed breakfast, for which my wife apologised.

Being on holiday, we'd planned to be out for the day, but I showered and went back to bed with a very high fever. At 1pm, the owner (whose name I never had the pleasure of knowing), knocked on the door whilst I was sleeping, and told my wife that because they had to go out, we had to leave the premises. My wife was taken aback and asked for an explanation, to which he replied "We're a B&B you know, not a hotel, and you have to leave. We expect people to be out and about during the day". My wife told him that we'd much rather be doing that than sitting in "this room", and she opened the door to show him that I was sick.

His response was "oh, has he been like that all day?" When my wife re-confirmed that I'd been ill since the previous night, he said "well, you still have to leave, we're a B&B not a hotel, and you can't return until after 6pm"

I dragged myself out of bed and, as I'm the only driver, I drove into town, shaking uncontrollably. We went to the hospital, where I was admitted immediately, with a temp of 40.6. I spent the following six days in hospital, fighting a serious condition.

My wife returned to our room, to be greeted by the hovering owner, who asked "are you right?" When told "no", he asked why. My very stressed wife told him that I'd been hospitalised, and that she was too upset to talk to him. He responded to her distressed state by saying "checkout is ten o'clock in the morning". His wife showed some concern by going up to the room to talk my wife. 

The next morning he was waiting for my wife to appear at the top of the stairs with her luggage, which he then carried to the foot of the stairs. Without a word, he then disappeared never to be seen again. My wife carried our luggage out to the taxi.

I'm disgusted that no concern was shown for my wife or myself. Aside from the idiocy of ordering an extremely sick person to not only leave, but drive, couldn't he have at least recommended a doctor, or driven me to hospital? 

During our holiday we've stayed in numerous B&B's, and all the owners have been stunned by what happened. The marvellous B&B owners in Aberystwyth who took care of my wife (and me while I recuperated) urged us to make formal complaints about this place.

This review is the start of this process. Before whatever-his-name threatens reprisals about this review, I'd like to remind him that he has no legal recourse against a factual statement, and he's lucky that my insurance company doesn't claim my additional expenses from him. He can also consider himself lucky that I don't sue him.

Nightmare, you HAVE to read this long review.

I had booked a single room. It was tiny and not ensuite and felt pretty basic. Not even a bikki with the kettle and at £39 I think that's a bit much. The bathroom also felt very bare and I found it impossible to get the shower to run hot. Breakfast was served in the family living room, which also felt a bit amateurish. The meal was very ordinary. No nice extras of any sort like fresh fruit. I would not go again.

Just not very nice

I don't travel a lot, I do bits and pieces as I can afford. I was on a holiday with my mother for a few days in Wales and booked in here as I thought it would be nice to have a massage after all the driving. They also allowed dogs which was a bonus as we had our two with us. 

A week before I e-mailed them asking could I book the massage or reflexology. I was told I could do it when I arrived. Fine. Also the e-mail has a spam bot on it and I was spammed 6 times from the e-mail address on the website. 

After a long days driving we arrived at 5pm, to no one around. The bell did not seem to work. That was ok, we went to the local beach (note its rock, not sandy.) and gave our dogs a run. At 6pm I was beat and just wanted some food and a lie down. We went back to the BB and were greeted by the landlady. As I walked in I was almost sick from the smell of damp and urine (or something similar!). We were shown to our room - a twin that smelled of damp and mold - and made small talk. We were told there was a Chinese restaurant (no, it was a bar with someone serving Chinese food out of a hatch) and Fish n' Chip shop. I then asked about a massage the following morning and was informed that it would have to be really early as other clients were booked in. OKay! No offense to the lady I'm sure shes lovely but it was asked to see if she could accommodate me, no way was I letting her touch me with that smell hanging around. 

We also could not have breakfast at 9am as the landlord was the chef and he could not accommodate us after 8:30. Fine - no sleep in for me on holiday so. 

We went for food and as there was no where to go we had to eat it in the room. By this stage there was significant water gathering on the windows and some starting on the ceiling. I put on the fan heater (no radiators) to try and dry the place out. I know by this point I had that "tightening" in my chest that I get when there's significant damp around. I have asthma and my mother is very sensitive to any mold. You know when the toilet paper even has that "damp" texture? It was like that.

Around half 7 or 8pm my Mum then went to see the landlord/landlady to see if there was other rooms not as bad. I was in the room and I had to run out as the landlord was shouting at her up the stairs. He barged up them, hoarding us into the room. The waves of aggression coming off him was palpable. He informed us there were other rooms but we could not stay together. Due to heath reasons I have to stay with her. When Mum pointed out that the worst smell of damp was in the corner beside the window and kettle he got so aggressive I was worried. He stormed at Mum saying "how can I smell the damp when you have the kettle on and had a takeaway!" At this point I had enough. NO ONE TALKS TO MY MUM LIKE THAT! I said that we were just making a observation and were very surprised they didn't smell it. I think I was lucky there was a bed between us as he really looked like he wanted to hit me. He raged out of the room saying he "just didn't know!" 

Now let me say that I live beside the sea as well, in a old cottage. My home has no damp or mold and I also have single pane windows. I get what damp is, I also get what damp MOLD is. 

Anyway, we just packed up and left. I'm annoyed I pre paid for this as I have no way to get my money back. No way could we stay in such a place for heath reasons and if that was not enough the hostility itself emanating from the landlord was a sealed deal. 

I'm sure their version of events is different, that we were picky and making a mockery of their BB or something. Mold is mold, damp is damp and the AA really need to review the 3*s. 

The best bit was driving out the gate and seeing him looking out in our rear view mirror.
