I really enjoyed my stay there. You can to stay in an actual dorm which I found super cool. Obviously, things like the desk or the bed may be a bit worn but given it's a dorm, I think something else would be weird. It had a nice big bed which was really comfortable, big desk and a small, I'd say typical for dorms, bathroom. The breakfast happened in the cafeteria and I liked the small stream there. A tube station and store is close by. I had a really great time!

Great

Basic but comfortable, clean. Access to the communal kitchen. A good English breakfast included in the price. Easy 8-10 walk to mile end underground station. Best price/quality ratio one can find in zone 2 in London. 

Basic, but quiet and clean 

I stayed here from Thursday and checked out yesterday, i have no bad words to say about this place. On the first night when i checked in, the guy at reception made me feel welcomed and made sure i was aware that the room may hot so i purchased a fan (£3 for 4 nights, cannot complain). The room had Wifi so i could use my phone and laptop when studying, also has a small refrigerator (very handy) & cleaners who come in each day to make your bed, give you clean towels, toilet roll and to change your bin. Breakfast was included in the price i paid, which tasted very nice (the cafeteria staff were kind and smiley, which made every morning a good one). the atmosphere was brilliant and very relaxing which is exactly what i needed whilst i studied (I PASSED). 

I recommend this place and will be coming back again soon!

Stay QM (was studying for a weekend course)

Was in London for a week to do some touristing, see all the places do all the things.. Stay QM is a bit out of the centre of the city but the very close proximity to Mile end station makes it very easy to get around.
Breakfast is included and boy is the breakfast worth it 👌: a good way to start your day before a long day of sight seeing.
Will definitely stay here again 

Great place to stay on a budget 

I stayed at QM for one night and it suited my needs perfectly. I needed somewhere with decent WiFi and space to work, and found the desk and connection in my room worked perfectly. I also used the WiFi in the Curve cafe/restaurant on campus and found it worked well there too.

The room itself is small and basic, but the bed was reasonably comfortable and the bed linen was clean. The bathroom is, as others have said, tiny, and the shower will wet everything else in the space, so be aware of that and possibly bring a shower cap if you don't want to get your hair wet! Toiletries (soap, shampoo/conditioner mix, shower gel) are provided but pretty basic, so bring your own if you want something better.

Again, others have said that the rooms can get hot in the summer, and this is true. The window opens, which is great (I'm not a fan of hotels which don't let you open windows, thus letting rooms get stuffy), but you'll need to rent a fan from reception if you want to be reasonably cool. This cost me £1 for a one night stay, which was fine. However, I'd imagine they have a limited number, so perhaps check in as early as possible and get one when checking in.

Something to be aware of is noise: you're on a university campus, with some students still/already there, and you're in budget accommodation that's probably housing other students/young people, so you're going to hear them. I stayed on a Thursday night and people outside/nearby were pretty loud til about 1am. Also, the fridge in the room hums and could well stop some people sleeping. I'm a deep sleeper, so was fine, but if you're easily woken, you might want to bring your earplugs!

I didn't choose the breakfast option but ended up having breakfast at the Curve anyway. It was reasonably priced, tasty enough, and took dietary requirements into account - e.g. you can swap pork products for veggie versions. The space was clean and pleasant, to such an extent that I stayed for a while to work. The number of staff and students who have lunch there suggests the lunch is good too!

In all, I would certainly stay again. I'd be more proactive in booking, though, as it got totally booked up for the dates I was looking at, and I wasn't able to use the alumni promo code, presumably because the spaces allotted to that offer had already gone!

Recommended budget accommodation

Be very clear - this is student accommodation, on Queen Mary University’s campus, which is rented out to tourists over summer. 

Rooms are small and basic, with an ensuite, and plenty of storage space. The bed is a single, not massively comfortable, but also not terrible. Pillows are flat, but the linen and towels are nice and clean. The ensuite is tiny, with a fixed-head shower that sprays the whole area, but it’s functional. The room is roasting hot in the summer, with no air con, so hire one of the desk fans when you check in. 

The room is very secure, with a key locked door, in a flat of about 6 rooms. I never saw anyone else in my flat while I was there. The 6 rooms share a communal kitchen. 

The staff are fine, but very much a product of an institution, and you’ll feel like a student, not a guest. 

Breakfast each day is in the cafeteria - a full English is available and tasty enough, if not at all gourmet! Staff in the Curve are friendly but also happy to leave you waiting until they’re ready to speak with you. 

Mike End tube is a five minute walk away, which links you to the Central, District and Hammersmith and City lines. It’s in zone 2, which is great. There’s also a bus direct to Oxford St from out the front of the uni. 

If you’re normally a hostel stayer and you’re looking for a private room, this is a good option. 


Good but...

Excellent value for money. Can book directly work uni. Room to hire in student halls. Staff helpful. Free wifi. Good location near to park and tube. Toiletries provided. Clean. Breakfast was good - full English. 

Very good 

Usually, even for reasonable rooms, I use to be luck enough to have a clean, comfortable rooms. This one was horrible.  No air conditioning and an incredible hot room.  I had to be naked when arriving the room and even that, it was hot.  The internet was not working properly in my computer. Anyway I do not recommend speacially during summer.
