TLH Victoria Feb 2018 Review.
Summary.

A good value for money hotel with leisure activities and entertainment second to none. 

Bar Service.

Although the bar service was very good in all the bars and priced reasonably for a hotel, all bars with the exception of Albert's (Albert's had Doom Bar) had a poor range of beers. They did not stock “real” or “Craft” beer on pump at all. There was only one bitter on, which has a relatively low alcohol content and not a popular beer. The Aztec bar didn’t even have Guinness unless you had it in a can. 

Restaurant.

Breakfast was good, with a reasonable selection.

Dinner selection and quality was good as well, but some of the food came out a bit on the cool side. Service by our waitress Maria was excellent and she should get a special mention. 

Specialist Diets. 

If you are concerned about the ability of the hotel to cope with specialist diets you have no need to worry. My partner had to keep to a special diet for medical reasons. She advised the hotel before she arrived, and the chef came out to discuss the details on our arrival. Then every day the Restaurant Manager came to the table at breakfast time with the dinner menu, went through the options, and if any additions were needed, he made suggestions, passed the details onto the chef and a suitable option was cooked and delivered at dinner. The service was so good that on one occasion the chef came out asking the Restaurant Manager why the pre-arranged dish had not been ordered. Again, special mention must be made for Maria, our waitress who was also aware of the dietary needs and ensured everything went smoothly, as did the Restaurant Manager, whose name I cannot remember, but it was the tall one with a beard.

Reception.

All reception staff were very helpful, and in particular Pam Cole, the head receptionist. If you want to know anything ask reception who will tell you, or get someone who can!

Entertainment.

Although very good so no complaints about that, the evening entertainment was not as advertised. I agree there is a caveat saying that this is a guide ……….and reserves the right to change………..at short notice but I think the website needs checking and updating regularly. For example even after the event the midweek break entertainment was still being shown as originally advertised and not as what was actually on. 

Leisure Activities.

The Leisure Activities were excellent and so extensive they are too numerous to mention.

Rooms.

We had a Rivera room which was very clean, biscuits toiletries etc. topped up daily as required, with plenty of room and a good sea view. Well worth the slight increase in tariff. 

Wi Fi. Good Wi Fi coverage throughout the hotel complex.

This hotel is really very good, even in February busy with good rooms and great full english breakfast each morning - other options available if you want. The staff were really great, helpful and knowledgeable. The location of the hotel less than ten minute walk down to the beach - where also you can pick up the bus to Paignton. Railway station also within a 10 minute walk away. We had a car, but did not use it for two days as the public transport is really good - great day trip to Dartmouth via steam train, ferry and boat trip. Torquay, even in February had a great atmosphere. So all in all great few days

Great value winter break

We took 92 of our lovely dancers to the TLH for a long weekend dance holiday.  We cannot praise the staff enough.  Every single member of staff that all or our dancers encountered was first class.  Helpful, knowledgeable and above all polite.  Whoever trains the staff does a wonderful job.
The hotel itself is clean, the food was hearty, (buffet breakfast - good choice and size of portions for dinner - Plus a large salad spread) Bedrooms are all of a good size, leisure facilities extensive  and a beautiful ballroom to dance in.  If I had to be picky about something, I would say the carpets in the communal areas are just about ready to be replaced, but that is me being picky
We are coming back next year!

The staff are outstanding

We had an self catering apartment in the Victoria but booked in for breakfast and dinner in the main restaurant. The apartment was lovely very roomy and gave us the space we needed.  Unfortunately we were situated near the main apartment entrance witch proved to be noisy at night when people were coming and going. 
The food was lovely reasonable portions but could do with a longer rotation of the menu. We stayed 10 days and repeated the first weeks menu. The children’s options were a buffet style and were a mix of potato options and one of either sausages, chicken or pasta. As an adult a couple of evenings I would have liked the option of the children’s buffet as the pasta was lovely. The salad was fresh but quite limited. The breakfast was plentiful and freshly renewed buffet. 
The facilities were great. Big swimming pools, great children’s pool and adults pool which had a shallow end enough for older children. Good arcade and access to indoor play centre and bowling (only bowling at extra cost) the bowling cost was reasonable no shoe hire required if your wearing trainers or the like. Great location a few minutes from the beach and a small walk into town but the busses and land train go from outside. Great all round holiday. 

Best of both

Just returned from our Bowls Holiday at the Victoria Hotel , everything was excellent , room , food, entertainment,and leisure facilities and finally the STAFF all brilliant thankyou for making our break so good. We will be back.  BRISTOL GAS 21.

A  5 DAY INDOOR BOWLS / HOLIDAY.

We had another great christmas as The Victoria Hotal 2017. The Staff where very accomodating as per normal. The waiting staff where brilliant especially Elesha, Thereasa. And of course mustnt forget Marius. Thanks everybody for a great holiday.

Christmas Holiday

Dance weekend (taking my Mum Line Dancing).  Rooms were clean and tidy and spacious, only complaint about room Sunday heating never came on until 4 o'clock so after we returned from our visit to town the room was freezing, had to ring reception. We had breakfast and evening meal, the food was good.  The staff were very good, friendly and attentive couldn't ask for more from them.  Good facilities on site, pool, temping bowling etc, would make a great place to take a family.  I treated my mum and myself to a manicure in the Spa,  I had an express manicure and my eyebrows wax and booked my my mum the next manicure up so we would finish the same time, very surprised to find had been waiting 15 mins before I came out, she was told 15-20 mins for manicure to hold.  I was told 25 mins so we then sat for another 15 mins.  Mums nails smudged she said the lady put at least 3 coats on and went from one hand to the other so only presume they were layered too quick.

For a 3 star Hotel I was impressed

We visited the hotel as a group in December for a Jump Jive event. The hotel staff were more than friendly and accommodating and the general atmosphere was comfortable and amiable.
The hotel was once of course resplendent in its time and would have been wonderful for dance events however it does appear tired in certain areas - however, it still had a lot of people milling about there. 
The food was good and a great selection and good range of drinks. 
Overall it was a very nice experience but immediate impressions do count and the one of ‘looking a bit tired’ eg chipped paint and knocks in the wall 
Other than that - lovely weekend hence 4* ‘s 

Dance weekend 

What a lovely hotel.

Our stay here was excellent from start to finish.

The food was varied and very well presented, it catered for all tastes.

Every member of staff at the hotel were friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them. 

Now for the entertainment in the hotel, wow this was first class on every night we stayed, such talented people.

A special mention to the chefs who gave us such fantastic food.

A christmas gem

The hotel has great facilities for the ballroom dancing we attended. The swimming pool and entertainment facilities of the connected sister hotels are very good. Some of the bedrooms are looking a little bit tired and could do with an update.
