Good - pool (but could do with some brighter lighting), gym, snooker table, pool table. Music night on Monday. Near to Duchy Nursery which does VG food. Lostwithiel is a village worth getting to know. Try the guided walk on a Thursday morning. Great Deli which does pizza to take away on a couple of nights. Good pub and a couple of restaurants. Can walk from units, but take a torch. 
Bad - restaurant menu very limited and hardly open so doesn't make you want to bother. It is a bit of a building site, but if you plan to be out and about it doesn't intrude, but they could try maintaining the outside better. No one serviced our apartment.
Confusing as new owners seem to be letting out units which developer is going to change to housing, so not sure when new holiday units are going to arrive, or how they will sit in with a residential development. Wifi only in club area and temperamental.

Confusing

When arriving at the hotel there is a very warm and welcoming atmosphere, the staff are very friendly and make you feel very welcome. The restaurant is lovely with very tasty food in the newly re-furbished restaurant. They also have an exceptionally large, heated, indoor swimming pool just a step away from the rooms, which is nice if you would like a swim. The Hotel is a dog friendly hotel, which is useful as there is many walks around Lostwithiel and as they are positioned about 4 miles away from Respryn it is easy enough to jump in the car and go down for a nice picnic for the day. The location of the hotel is nice, just far enough from the main road, so that it is very quite, it is about a 15 minute walk into the the town centre, which is filled with lots of little shops, cafe's and lots of history. Lostwithiel is also positioned right in the middle of Cornwall, so it is fairly easy to go to local attractions, such as Cornwall Crealy, Flambards, Newquay Zoo, The Eden Project and so on, all good if you have children. If you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing trip, in an area rich in History and easy access to the rest of Cornwall, this is certainly the place to come.

Welcoming, Friendly Staff and overall an enjoyable stay.

This is a difficult one. The restaurant itself we found to be very dated and in need of an upgrade, and the lighting was not of restaurant quality either which detracted from the ambience. The menu was reasonable in content and price but there was no wine list at all. There seemed to be two choices of red and two of white only. This is where I have a problem, the waitresses knew very little about the wines on offer nor could they describe the menu, which meant that they had received no training at all and seemed very inexperienced. That said my difficulty is that they were both utterly charming, and despite the difficulties we warmed to them. So I feel a little mean in commenting on the deficiencies - if the management read this - just train them up to a professional standard and they will be an asset.  Now the food. Generally good but with one glaring exception. We both ordered "Posh Fish & Chips". Curried sea-bass in batter which sounds a little different, but turned out to be probably the best battered fish I have ever tasted. But the...the chips which were a disaster. Soggy and lukewarm sums it up. Chef please double-fry the chips and make them crisp. You would then have a dish to die for!  All told not too good an experience but thank you waitresses for being the exception to this.

Restuarant visit only ..but could do better

We stayed here at the end of March for 7 nights via DAE. The room we had was furnished to a great standard and being very quiet we enjoyed a wonderfully peaceful nights sleep each night.
The staff are all friendly and cannot do enough for you, on asking for milk on the first night , I was given the best part of 2 litres. The Country club had just re-opened 5 weeks before and work is still ongoing on refurbishing the extra cottages , but noise is at a minimum.
Breakfast can be taken for the most reasonable sum of £4.95 each morning if required and this was of a very good standard.
Lostwithial is a great little town with a mainline railway station to Falmouth etc. The location is ideal for walking around the coastal paths of Looe and Polperro , Fowey and Polruan and also great for exploring the Edan project and Lost Gardens of Heligon etc.

A great location in Cornwall for all the attractions.

As the place has just changed operators I will avoid too much negative comment as there are plans for a major refurbishment so I think it is better to wait six months or so and see if the operator has fulfilled his plans- which are certainly ambitious i.e. a full make over of the hotel and bedrooms, lots of landscaping, a nine hole golf course, a fishing lake, additional accommodation in the style of  forty log cabins etc
This is certainly a very ambitious plan and will cost several hundreds of £thousands.
We had a short stay over the Easter week and really enjoyed our holiday as it is very conveniently situated for touring Cornwall`s beauty spots and the weather was brilliant.
The ten cottage style rooms are quite generous in size but let down by the general dated and faded appearance. We only had one evening meal - what can I say?  just `unbelievable` - work that one out !
I wish the operator all the best - he will certainly need it,  as well as buckets of cash !

Great potential BUT .....

Our hotel was very large with large bathroom, bathtub + separate shower, electrical outlet at 2 standard poles for the razor. iron bed but convenient, small windows, LCD TV with large screen. Very quiet, only the clanging of a bird in the morning. Restaurant from frugali meals as well as breakfast with little choice. Suitable for golf gamblers. it is not possible to do two after dinner because immersed in the most total darkness, with some difficulty in reaching the dark room outside the main building.

Lost in the woods

We went on a tour of Cornwall and stayed here for one night and were very disappointed - the bathroom was not clean, the furnishings were antique, you could see that the owner didn't want to invest money, everything went down pretty well, our complaints were not addressed and the price... we were in much nicer hotels and B&B's that were much cheaper. This was by far the worst hotel we've ever been in and from the price point of view a disgrace! I can only disagree, never again!
