We booked this 'hotel' six months ago as we were going to a wedding nearby.  When we got there, the place was locked up and no sign of the owner.  After hammering on the door for 20 minutes, one of the other residents looked out of an upstairs window and we asked him to let us in.  He reluctantly came downstairs and opened the front door.  He said the owner was out and just disappeared upstairs again.  We found out room as it was just near the front door with a piece of paper stuck to the door with our name on it and the key in the lock.  On entering the room it smelt musty and was grubby, not the sort of place you would want to get ready for a wedding in.  We went out to the car then tried to get back in and the key that was supposed to let us in the front door wouldn't work so we were locked outside again.  It took a further 20 minutes for someone to let us in.  We tried all three phone numbers on the frontage sign, the mobile of which didn't work and the other two gave no response.  At this point we decided to leave and find accommodation elsewhere as we were not only concerned about the state of the place, but also that we would be locked out and unable to get ready for the wedding.  This could have ruined our weekend completely.  Fortunately, the Travelodge in Loughborough had rooms available at short notice and couldn't have been more helpful.  I emailed the owner but as yet have not had the courtesy of a reply or apology.

I agonised over this review, as I've never left a bad one before. In the end, though, leaving only good reviews isn't helpful. The hotel itself is fine, if a bit shabby around the edges. The rooms are tiny. But if you want something cheap and don't care about the niceties, it's okay. However, my friend and I did not once see the actual owners during our stay. We were greeted by the young daughter when we arrived, but saw no one else. We certainly HEARD them that evening though. They were in the back yard chatting loudly with a friend and the language was enough to turn the air blue. I'm not a prude, but it was hardly the image I'd want to put forward if I ran a hotel. The next morning, we ate breakfast alone and when we left, shoved the keys through the letterbox as there was no one around.

You Get What You Pay For

The owner is very friendly and obliging. However if is more like a bed and breakfast than anything else, except maybe a motel. The furniture is outdated. My headboard was made of a fake suede-like material and had different colored strands of hair stuck to it. 'Breakfast' was bread with butter and jam in a fridge and stale cereal. Not very inviting. The bathroom was just revolting most of the time which was worrying. It is in a decent location, through if you can afford it avoid the sunnyside hotel.

It is okay if you only need a place to sleep

Nice place to crash if your looking for somewhere cheap and stay.  No extras but great otherwise as an easy place to stay. Shared bathroom is a downfall if you don't like this but I don't have a problem with this.  Stayed for download music festival last year and did exactly what I needed, and had a safe place to park my motorcycle too. Just a 2-3minute walk into the town centre and train station.

Cheap, clean, cheerful.

No gas cannisters, no piles of random stuff!! the decor was nice, what I expected for £26 per night inc breakfast. No musky smell, and no crumbs in the bed. My room was clean and tidy, the communal bathroom and toilet were clean and tidy, and the shower was hot!! I stayed here last night and have no complaints whatsoever. It was a business trip and I could'nt check in until 22:20, on arrival I was met by the owner, he was welcoming and no issues with late check in. I would have no issues at all staying in this hotel again.
