Visited for a short 2 night stay with family whilst visiting the Osprey centre and Ynys Hir. Great location , great atmosphere, good food, comfortable rooms. Rhys was a wonderful host nothing was too much trouble.


Great Experience

Just had 2 nights here when visiting the Mach Loop. Would definitely recommend and iI would definitely stay again if visiting this beautiful area in the future. The hosts were very friendly and accommodating and food was great. The hotel is set in an area of spectacular scenery .

I returned to the Penrhos as a ex licencee for a special birthday with family and friends.What a breath of fresh air it was to visit a hotel that had the common touch none of the pseudo traits the chain hotels make us have.Just good old service etc with a smile.My thanks to Rhys and Shirley and Staff for a nostalgic return to my past.Regards Barrie

After 50 years

5 night stay with my dog Jaz. Yes, it's old fashioned. It's supposed to be. Rhys and Shirley great fun and good company. Good wholesome food, comfortable rooms and all expectations met. Hopefully will go again.

Lovely stay.

Whilst we didn't stay at the hotel myself and friends did eat and drink there.
We were staying nearby and the local shop was closed and the licencee help us out with milk, all the staff were very friendly and helpful and nothing was to much trouble they even managed to fit us in for breakfast (fantastic) even though they were full.
Good quality pub grub which was really appreciated and everything was hot.

Weekend in wales

A lovely pub and hotel. We stayed for 2 nights in June 2022 and the host really made it for us - he was so friendly and helpful! Great full English breakfast too, included as standard with hotel bookings. thank you for having us.

Super friendly and helpful host!

We stayed here for two nights with friends whilst decorating our recently acquired holiday lodge in Pennal. What an absolute treat!! It was everything we needed and could have wished for after a long busy day…. cosy warm surroundings, tasty pub food served until 8, good wine and beer, warm friendly staff and comfortable rooms. The breakfast was perfect too. Our host Rhys made it extra special so thank you. We will be back very soon.

The perfect home from home!

We booked our table well in advance, and the lady there was so friendly and helpful.  We were advised there may be a smaller menu depending on Covid (but there wasn't!)

There is lots on the menu, all good welsh pub-grub, there was a specials board, and also a food-in-a-basket menu.  All reasonably priced.  

I chose the 10oz steak, served with chips, peas, tomato and mushrooms.  I asked for it to be served medium and medium it was! This steak was just so perfect - toasty and charred out the exterior and juicy and pink in the middle; I don't know how the chef did it! The chef came out to personally check on us, and we got chatting about coleslaw and he delivered me some to try out (when I contested that my mom's was the best in the land!) His came a very close second - gorgeously creamy.

Hubby had scampi and chips, with peas and tartar sauce - he was stuffed and very pleased with his meal.  

The pub served local gins, ales and cider, and had a lovely location with beer garden overlooking fields with cows.  There is a carpark too.

They have a 5/5 rating food hygiene rating too!! 

The bar lady was very helpful and amenable to guests, and the look of the overall pub is classic.  Loved it.  I'd return when I'm back here.

Cracking food and company... and good mix of drinks!

Sad to say that despite the really lovely staff and good service the food was absolutely dreadful and none of us were able to finish our meals. All over-cooked (nuked) microwave fare I'm afraid and totally over priced. The Hunters Chicken was hard and dry and the Salmon had a very odd taste and texture with some chilli sauce slapped on top. I was hungry so ploughed through the chips which ironically were undercooked, but couldn't finish the salmon. None of the starters were available apart from prawn cocktail, but not enough for everyone! Really disappointing as I really wanted to support this place as I live fairly locally, but I won't be returning unless they sort out the food quality.

Nice staff, bad food

Having read the reviews , we were looking forward to our meal but as soon as we were shown to the dining room our expectations plummeted: we felt that we’d stepped back into the 80s.
The menu was very basic with most items supplied with microwaved peas and chips ( not hand-cut as cited on the menu).
The website states ‘fine food’ this is inaccurate as it was bland basis cafe fare.
