Quaint pub which looks ideal after a long walk up the cove. But the day I visited they were short staffed and so the customer service was a bit rude. 
The food is terrible, mine was inedible but I couldn’t face the inevitable confrontation with the barman to try and resolve it so I fed it to the dogs and left. When I say bad, I’m talking hospital/airplane catering standard. Cheap poor quality ingredients with no flavour. Certainly wouldn’t return.

Awful food. Service a bit rude.

The Buck Inn has a lot of promise when you view it online. The amenities are decent enough, people rave about the food & drink, the surroundings are stunning and the exterior looks how you'd expect an old coach house to look - what's not to be excited about?

The entire place is dated in the worst possible way, the beers cost over SIX POUNDS, the food costs what you'd expect homemade-quality meals to cost but the quality is below average and the staff are generally very cold and unwelcoming. The barman shrugged off our suggestion of sitting in the restaurant rather than the pub (for a meal that we'd booked ahead for) because he "didn't have enough staff" and that "if we opened it up, we'd have far more people in here". Why have an entire restaurant if it's closed, especially to staying guests?

I counted a maximum of twelve people in the pub on a Saturday night and not one of them was having a good time. People were awkwardly just getting up and leaving. There are TWO pubs in Malham and when we went over the other, everyone we'd seen in The Buck Inn had the same idea as us. The music is crap, the interior is so incredibly dated and does no justice to the exterior - there was no reason to hang around. The room was overpriced for what it was, the breakfast was average and I'd argue the portion size was below par. The whole experience was totally unwelcoming and I couldn't imagine ever returning. I still can't believe they would charge £18 for a frozen pie and chips, dressed up on the menu as a homemade steak and venison pie. Pull the other one. No wonder the pub industry is on its arse.

Cold, Miserable and Unaccommodating

Booked in via booking.com based on the central location and external look of the premises. As soon as we entered the building we were disappointed. The bar area is tired, uninviting and lacks atmosphere. It’s in need of a refurb. We hoped the rooms would be acceptable but again tired, dated and in need of a much needed re-vamp. We left and went for a walk a decided it really was not an option to stay. We were back within 90mins to ask if we could politely decline the stay but were told they would need to deep clean the room (laughable) so could only offer a 50% refund which we accepted. To be honest, refund or no refund, there was no way we were sleeping there.

The Shining

The exterior of this pub is attractive, but sadly the interior is a bit dingy.  This is mirrored by the demeanor of the landlord/barman who seems to have had a hospitality transplant.  We only went in for a pint and the beer was good.  Only go for a pint if you must!


Sadly Lacking

This is the third time we’ve done this pre Christmas break at The Buck. The second with James and his team. The place is spotless the rooms very comfortable and warm. Nothing is too much trouble for the very friendly staff team. The food is lovely it’s not fancy just appetising well presented tasty food. Malham isn’t cheap but in comparison The Buck offers great value for money. We’ve even booked for next December! 

Excellent place to stay

Went to the Buck Inn yesterday as a group of 4, this place is lacking staff, and manners! All the tables needed clearing of previous peoples drinks. We ordered 4 meals, one meal came out, about 15 minutes later another meal arrived by a rude waiter who said the ticket had been lost and asked if it was mine, this should of been a trio of roasts with all the trimmings - mash potato, stuffing and crackling were all missing from the plate. When I asked the server about the mash potato she was very rude and said "if you want mash potato you can have it" and then proceeded to slap it down on the table a few minutes later. 
Two other meals never arrived and we had to ask the staff to cancel the food and asked for a refund as we were ready to leave by this point! Turns out they had lost those tickets too!!
Terrible service, avoid.

We were aware that the people running The Buck Inn had only just taken over and we think it showed.

The female worked tirelessly and was welcoming but the men seemed stressed!

The dog friendly room was great, lovely and clean and cosy.  However, there was no warm welcome by the man behind the bar at check in and no fire lit despite the advertising boards saying 'real fire' . We had pre-booked a table for our evening meal and the food was OK but not hot enough. Nobody asked us if our food was ok, not even when he cleared the plates. Maybe because when he asked a previous diner he was told that their meal was 'pretty poor'.            

We did have a great nights sleep and the breakfast was promising with help yourselves cereal, toast and juices but the cooked breakfast was just not hot.

The second night we booked food elsewhere and on returning to the Buck it was dead, no fire lit, cold and no atmosphere. I asked for water for the dog to be told by the same barman that there was bowls on the floor, there was but they were empty. I pointed this out but he didn't fill them. He was polite enough but not friendly or welcoming. 

I am hoping that this was just 'teething issues' as I love the pub and the location.

We ate here for lunch both had the fish goujons. We asked for malted bloomer but were given the white bloomer, this aside the whole meal was very good

Nice lunch

Perfect spot in Malham centre.  Stayed in the Duck room for one night.  It was spotless and has everything you need for a comfortable stay.   Nice to have plenty tea and coffee making facilities and complimentary biscuits.  Don't worry about parking, there's plenty.

We had dinner in the restaurant and it was delicious.  Will definitely be returning.

Brilliant location

We visited today after pre booking for a group of 12 including children. Didn’t get a warm and friendly welcome, was told our table wasn’t ready, then it was but in bay event wouldn’t of accommodated all of us. We were given two separate tables one of which was extremely wobbly and warped. No hot drinks available. We were approached by a member of staff to take our order but weren’t quite ready! Over half an hour later he finally came back for us to find out there were no roast dinners available! We couldn’t believe it. We then debated what to do at nearly 6pm on a Sunday with a large party! Decided to stay and asked for a kids menu to be told they couldn’t find it!!! We were at that point also told after being in the pub for nearly an hour with very little staff interaction or attention that the pie was also not available! Safe to say we got up and left with out eating to which the staff didn’t bat an eye lid! We did not feel at all welcome and completely wasted our time.
