We booked this stay on the basis of the reviews and we’re really surprised that only a couple of the reviews on here mention that “extremely busy and extremely noisy A346”. We’re not sure how genuine some of the reviews are on here. Maybe they didn’t stay in the Coach House or maybe they didn’t stay in the second bedroom.

Our stay was in the Coach House. It has two bedrooms, one on the ground floor and one up in the roof space. This place would be ok if you only used the bedroom on the ground floor, as noise isn’t quite as bad in that bedroom (though you can still hear the lorries). HOWEVER, if you stay here as a family or two couples then we’d suggest you avoid this place. The second bedroom in the roof space is dreadful. The bed is very small (I’m 5 10” and my feet hang off the end - we think it’s a 3/4 bed), mattress is very uncomfortable but worst of all is the noise from the road. Lorries use this road a lot and you can hear (and feel) each one. They use it all through the night but the traffic picks up about 4/4:30am. 

We got 5 hours of broken sleep on the first night and about 3 hours on the second night. We didn’t stay for our third night, so it did ruin our trip. We ended up leaving to go back home early. We’ll visit the area again the future but we won’t be staying here.



Avoid if you enjoy your sleep!

We really enjoyed our night here.  The yellow room is spacious, comfy bed and settee  with a great bathroom with period features.  The whole place is light and airy and friendly.  We were recommended the local pub for food - 2 minutes away on foot literally.  That was also very good.  Ogbourne st andrew is really cllose to Marlborough and you can walk onto the hills directly from the house.  Perfect stopping place for one or more nights.

Warm welcome, beautiful yellow room, good breakfast

Lovely cottage with great views (Mincarlo).  Good food at The New Inn and Ruin Beach Cafe.  Enjoyed boat trips to the other Islands and walks on Tresco, St Martin's and Bryher. Will definitely visit again. 

A wonderful place to visit

We had to stay in Marlborough for two nights to attend something at Marlborough College and did not want to risk driving up and down the M4 early each morning.

The Coach House is an independent building with two double bedrooms with a  galley kitchen, sitting room with its own garden.  It is very well furnished and very comfortable - it even has good WiFi for teenagers!  Surprisingly the water pressure is very good but one small comment is that there isn’t enough hot water for three showers immediately in a row so space them out if possible a bit.  I would also like a modern large rose shower head but that is being picky!!

There are some nice touches with a welcome food pack of eggs bread milk butter and jam - all local and all lovely.  It is also very warm!

We can highly recommend it for a stay if you want more than a soulless hotel or pub  and don’t mind doing a bit of cooking.  It is also literally five minutes walk from Silks on the Downs that does excellent food.

One tip on parking - drive in forwards and then reverse around to face the gate - we tried all permutations and that is the quickest and safest.

We would highly recommend Tresco House.

The Coach House - a lovely oasis

We stay one night only in the lilac room: it was warm, clean and comfortable. Amanda was very kind and we have an excellent breakfast in the dining room with a pleasant view on the garden. A beautiful place where to stay!
