The room was great: clean and comfortable with a shower room, little fridge and TV as you'd hope for. I stayed two nights and had full English breakfast both mornings which was cooked to perfection. :)

The weekend was a busy one for Tim as it was also the Wirksworth Festival but he was helpful and as accommodating as if nothing else was going on!

I had my dog with me and she was made welcome and enjoyed the stay too!

I'd highly recommend this venue.

Great guest house in Wirksworth

Stayed in the magistrates room which as described very qwerky,fabulous room and a fabulous building in all, a step back in time, Tim is a great host and unbelievable chef, his breakfasts definitely 10/10, look forward to staying there again soon,no complaints whatsoever, cheers  Tim,

Great location, fabulous building

Tim was an excellent host,
Location was brilliant for exploring Matlock and Matlock Bath, 
Wirksworth is a great little village within walking distance,
Lovely comfy clean room in a former police station, 
The breakfast was 100%, 
Added bonus it was dog friendly, not allowed in the dining room which I fully understand,
Would highly recommend 

Amazing quirky b n b, highly recommended 

Location was spot on as only a 5 min walk into town.Room was lovely and clean, breakfast is a must/ lovely bagel with salmon/ poached egg, Tim the host was welcoming and knowledgeable about the area, highly recommend definitely returning back here soon.

Lovely pleasant gem of a place in Wirksworth

We had a lovely 2 nights stay at the Old Lock Up. Stayed in the magistrates room very comfortable and clean. Tim is a wonderful host very friendly, helpful and a good cook. Breakfasts  were great.  We really enjoyed our stay in this quirky guest house and would definitely recommend a stay here.

A great quirky guest house

We stayed in the Magistrate's room for 2 nights recently. The room is comfortable and well furnished and a good size. Breakfast was good and tasty and we had 3 course dinner one night. Lots of choice, well cooked and presented and good value. Easy free off road parking in small car park across road from property

Great stay

We arrived on a wet and miserable Friday night for a two night break and were met by Sarah in the main building who ran through the house rules with us.  The entrance and reception area are police themed with memorabilia and I understand the two bedrooms on the first floor of this building are also themed.  The dining area is just off the reception area. It transpired our room (The Hayloft) was one of two rooms on the first floor of the converted Coach House at the rear of the property at the top of some quite steep stairs.   Our room was not themed but someone had certainly made very good use of the space available.  There was a small ensuite shower and toilet area just off the bedroom which boasted a t.v., fridge, kettle and tea/coffee makings, hairdryer and even a hot water bottle.  There was plenty of wardrobe and drawer space for storage and the double bed was very comfortable. We had eaten en route but I did ask whether they had a bar at the property which resulted in Sarah producing various bottles of wine and various cans of beer.  A bottle of red was chosen and I was advised that there was a corkscrew and two glasses in our room for our use which was true. Before retiring for the night we had to complete a pre-printed form with our breakfast choices on it for the following morning and what time we would like it.  Breakfast was served until 9.15am and the form had to be left at reception before 9.30pm the night before. Unfortunately we were told that the owner, Tim,  could not provide dinner for us on the Saturday night as he was busy with other things so we had a very nice meal at Le Mistral a few minutes walk away instead.  Breakfast was very good both days and set you up for the days plans.  I chose The Old Lockup due to its location.  It's around 4 miles from  Carsington Water which we walked around on the Saturday and around 12 miles to Chatsworth House which we spent the day at on Sunday prior to returning home. There is limited parking on the street near The Old Lockup but there is a very small car park opposite the building. Personally we couldn't fault the premises and enjoyed our stay so it is likely we will return. Since we left it has occurred to us that we did not see a lift in either of the buildings.  For prospective guests who may have mobility issues it would be worth a telephone call to the owner to ensure this is suitable for you.  

Ideal for exploring the area.

Tim the owner was friendly, conscientious, and makes a great breakfast.  The room was not fancy but totally comfortable and adequate.  I’d definitely stay here again in the future.  The town of Wirksworth is also interesting and worth checking out and getting to places in the park for hiking was quite easy and convenient.

Great base for the Peak District

A memorable stay in the Solicitors room. Tim made us feel very welcome and cooked an excellent standard of breakfast each day. An ideal quiet location in Wirksworth that is a short walk to the town centre, where there is a good range of shops and restaurants. Also close by to the High Peak trail for a walk or cycle ride. We will definitely stay there again

Wonderfully unique and quirky

We spent three nights staying at the Old Lock Up with its interesting history. Tim is an excellent chef so we were pleased we had opted to have dinner each night. The menu is varied and good value although food has to be pre-ordered. The place is kept clean and comfortable and Tim is a friendly host. There is free parking in the street but it is restricted to between 16.20 and 09.40. Wirkworth is a good centre for visiting the Peak District National Park and also the World Heritage site at nearby Cromford.
