I stayed at the Tredegar Arms Guesthouse for two night. Check in was easy, staff are friendly and it’s in a good location for walking in the mountains (travel into town was a bit tough). That said.. the rooms were clean, safe and comfortable.. Merthyr Tydfil is a nice town as well with some nice places to eat. If you are planning on climbing Pen Y Fan then get the T4 or T14 (for free at weekends) from the bus station. If you are looking for a cheap weekend away and need somewhere just to get your head down for the night then you can’t go wrong, just don’t expect it to be The Hilton

Budget but get what you pay for

Marilyn has been very helpful & kind going over & above her duties, she is lovely. The room is perfect, considering the price, which is very cheap. We have everything we need, a kettle, hot drinks, fridge & even a microwave. I have only one concern and that is at least one of the guests was smoking. I feel that this is not fair on others at the hotel because not all of us smoke & don’t want to smell it and whoever is doing it is breaching the smoking act. I’m concerned because the smoke alarms did not go off & I can’t see any evidence that they work, i.e: no lights flashing. Are they in working order? I am worried about this. Otherwise, I think it’s a good hotel, very cheap & friendly. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a place to stay for a short period of time but I think the management need to address the smoking issues and make sure the smoke alarms are all working.

Friendly helpful staff

Well situated and convenient for a base camp for the weekend. Friendly staff and comfortably furnished rooms. The proprietor was kind enough to hold the room for an extra half day to give me the chance to freshen up before the drive home, which was highly appreciated.

Room extension at no cost

So we were greeted by the most weirdest of ladies I've ever met.  Went from angry and calling owner to super smiley(with food still in her mouth).  All of the rooms master keys are available for any guest to use!!!!! Rooms are so dirty, falling to bits and damp.  Toilet never been cleaned(see pic) Owner was actually ok when you saw him and hired help not arguing with him... Lounge and breakfast area was disgusting, milk in rooms and at breakfast area was like cottage cheese.  Did not dare complain as the hired help lady was vicious and bite your head off if asking for even a spare towel.

Weird, Dirty and unfriendly, scary hired help

On one lovely weekend of July. Two handsome & Athletic men travelled to Wales to complete Fan Danse SAS March across the Brecon Beacons 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿. 

On looking for a place to stay for the event nearby we found the ‘Tredegar Arms Hotel’ It was in great location roughly 10 minutes from the event ⭐️

We turned up & we were greeted by Marolyn (land lady) and escorted us to the secure parking facility (left unlocked & left at owners risk) and then showed us to our room.  

We were delighted to have a family room but for 2 of us it was too much & Marolyn insisted that no one slept top bunk because it’s one less bed to make. 

Once we settled in, as most lads do the PS4 was bought & Fifa wanted to be played. We come into difficulties with the room set up. The 5.4 inch TV was located in the clouds with no possibility’s of a set up achievable (stressful I know)

Once we racked our brains together we came up with a solution moving all the furniture to make this a possibility (see photo). 

After hearing the PS4 turn on, all hard work had payed off & carnage was about to be had in the ‘Tredegar Hotel’.

We had a night to remember squished on top bunk with our eyes squinted and face 10cm away from the screen. 

After 15 games we retired from Fifa & got our head down to prepare for the March. I slept in top bunk even with knowing the repercussions faced by Marolyn if she found out. 
 It took us years to fall asleep as the fridge sounded like the exterminator & froze any dark fruits that dared to enter. 

Once the March was completed we arrived back at the Tredegar arms to an immediate greet by Marolyn who had clearly inspected the room. 

The first thing she said ‘what have you done to my furniture’ after explaining Fifa she obviously understood and let us carry on our day. 

Joking aside great place to stay and recommend it to all. Big shout out to Marolyn who was a great sport and always had our best interests at heart (fifa).

Having booked the room through a booking site we needed to change the room details. 
Having messaged through the site. Having dialed the mobile number and cut off on a number of occasions, Having rung the main number on a few occasions with no answer,. and having mailed the hotel directly. i have not had any response from the owner for over 3 days

We have now cancelled the booking

Poor from the start

We stayed at The Tredegar Arms Hotel for the third time, and each time we enjoyed our stay. From the moment you enter that place you start feeling like at home of the big family! We really enjoyed our time spend it the living-dinning area. Few comfortable sofas and huge tv can gives you feeling to take your shoes off and make you feel like at home. People - "the boss" and his "second hand" Marleen are very friendly and nice with such a flexibility of understanding your needs. The room 4 which we stayed is very cosy with double bed, bunk bed (the little one will have fun) and very convenient access to fridge and microwave which is a huge thing- as save you money for food while you away from home. Good value for money! Highly recommended!

Great time!

I made a silly mistake of arriving at the wrong hotel with a similar name and telephoned this hotel to explain and asked not to be charged a no show fee as this was a genuine mistake and not a deliberate no show. This hotel was not fully booked at the time and so would not have lost any bookings due to my mistake. The owner refused to refund me £147 for 3 nights stay, even though he was aware that I am a single parent of a disabled child. Easy way of earning money, but very immoral in my book. Don't give them your money.

Thanks to our very nice and funny host, we spend a lovely time in this hotel ! It is not far from the bus and the train stations. The room was comfortable and the breakfast delicious! I recommend a stay there 😊
