Lovely large en suite room with the most wonderful view. You look down on a beautiful old thatched building, the church and you can see all the way over the sea to Wales. Friendly and helpful people, a nice breakfast and super clean everywhere. Couldn't be better. Good value for money!

Couldn't be better!

A lovely B & B in an charming location. When we arrived we were greeted with a warm welcome from our hosts, Maggie and Nick, with an offer of cake and a cuppa on the house. They were an excellent source of local knowledge, highlighting useful places on the highstreet and recommending places to visit around Porlock.  

Our room was quiet, clean and comfortable. Although the smallest and cheapest, it more than met our needs.

The highlight of each day was the beautiful handcooked breakfast, with traditional, vegetarian and gluten free options. It was accompanied by a range of other breakfast items, which you could help yourself to. This was topped off with toast and THE BEST JAM EVER, which Nick and Maggie kindly gave us a free jar of because we loved it so much!

Overstream Guest House has the advantage of being in the wonderful, picturesque location of Porlock. It's a quaint little village surrounded by beautiful woodlands, hills and coastline, all perfect for walking and with stunning views wherever you turn. And at night, you only have to walk a few metres to see the amazing expanse of stars above your head (and, if you're lucky like us, maybe a stag or two!)

Overall, Overstream is an amazing place to stay with hosts that really helped us make the most of our holiday.

Lovely B & B, Charming Location

Wish we could have stayed longer than one night, very friendly welcome from Nick and Maggie. The room was comfortable with all our needs catered for. Good choice on the breakfast menu, food served freshly cooked and hot. The hotel is ideally situated in the village with plenty of lovely walks and a good selection of places to dine out.Will certainly stay again when next in the area

Overnight stay

We along with 6 of my family. Stayed st the Overstream as we were attending a wedding. Nick & Maggie were a lovely pleasant couple who took the time to show us local amenities and places of interest. Their B&B was terrific, it was spotlessly clean, big fresh rooms recently decorated and the breakfasts were wonderful. A terrific place to stay at a very reasonable price, I would highly recommend a visit,

Fantastic stay

What a find. Ideally situated in the village. The room was tastefully decorated with a view of the church. Very clean and fresh looking. The proprietor was very informative regarding local walks and eateries. Plus a brilliant full English breakfast. Would definitely recommend 

We stayed just one night but would happily have stayed much longer.  The room was large, comfortable, spotlessly clean and had a lovely view.  The ensuite bathroom was very big and luxurious.  The breakfast was very good - including perfectly cooked boiled eggs from local chickens! - and catered for allergies/intolerances with no fuss.  The owners were friendly and helpful and the whole place just had a lovely atmosphere.  Do stay here!

A lovely place to stay.

We have stayed here for short breaks many times now and have always been extremely happy with this small friendly hotel ..... BUT 😀.... Nick and Maggie have now carried out a comprehensive upgrade to the hotel and have installed huge new en-suite showers and in one room a new bath room. This has successfully modernised the facilities and brought the hotel to another level of comfort. 
The food remains high quality and Maggie and Nick as down to earth and hospitable as always. 
We can continue to highly recommend this beautiful small hotel in Porlock with everything you need for a visit to West Somerset, Exmoor and North Devon. 
You won’t be disappointed!! 😃

STILL AMAZING

I spent two nights here in late October, just to have a base to explore Exmoor. When I arrived I was met by the owner who recommended some local walks. There was an offer of tea and scones, but a rest and plate of fish and chips beckoned. It is very quiet for being in the centre of town. I had a sea view room and the sunset on the first night was beautiful. 

The downsides were the rather small shower room and the fact the shampoos and soaps are in little plastic sample packs rather than actual bottles.

Overstream Guest House could be best described as being full of old world charm. The facilities and rooms were in-keeping with the feel of the town itself - somewhere that's tried to retain its traditions whilst the world around has rushed on by.

This is not a display of trendy shabby chic to suit "boutique" lovers - these are rooms well furnished with traditional pieces whose style goes beyond the simply functional, yet retain a dignified rather than elaborate feel. (I shudder to think of anyone seeing the rooms and saying "the furniture's a bit old!".)

One thing that struck you straight away was the absence of unpleasant odours - not even the reek of cleaning products that hits you when entering some hotel rooms - just a pleasant ambience and not single cobweb in sight.

The tv was small but worked well; there was plenty of space for your clothes, with double wardrobe and chest of drawers; for seating, there was a farmhouse style two-seater settee and chair; the bed was very comfortable with a few creaks (but that could have been me!); large sink unit with ample storage in the room itself; the tea tray items were replenished on a daily basis; the lift was a godsend to an arthritic; and the breakfasts would set anyone up for a day's walking.

Only down sides would be that, as I'm not a small person the limited showering and toilet space required some "squeezing-in", but the room itself was large enough to spend time in for more than simply sleeping. All the appliances were modern and well fitted, but the water flow rate on the second floor was quite slow and you had to wait a while for hot water or for the cistern to fill up.

On top of all the above, owners Nick and Maggie are two of the most warm and welcoming people you could ever stay with - nothing was too much trouble.

Would happily recommend Overstream to anyone wishing to stay in the area - particularly if I thought they would appreciate the aesthetics of the property and the values of its incumbents.
