Great place for a drink or meal with the whole family- dog too! Good service and good food. Both adult and kids enjoyed their meals. Will return again to try the fish and chips as they looked really tasty.

The Castle is a friendly pub with rooms in the heart of Porlock.  

My room was in an annex behind the pub - very convenient, though with quite a number of steps.  The room was very spacious and looked very fresh.  In principle, it was very quiet (no road noise), but on occasion there was rumbling mechanical noise from the (chiller?) Unit downstairs, as well as the bathroom fan and voices in an adjoining room.

WiFi was fine and capable, once I'd asked at the bar for the code.

Breakfast was a bit brief - a choice of full English OR cereal etc.  The food was fine, but having the full English I missed my fibre :). Other meals were pub staples at a good price.  It's a lively pub, popular with locals and tourists by the looks of things.  

I would have rated 4.5* : losing half a star for the noise in the room and the basic breakfast.  But I rounded up.  I'd happily stay again.

Friendly, straightforward, central 



 The Castle  has a roaring hearth  fire,  small simple menu with good home made food, books and friendly informative staff , perfect for relaxation.  If you feeling sporty, pool, darts, skittles are available and tv to watch on. 

Booking in was simple at the bar. There are stairs to rooms but if you wait a couple of mins an appropriate member will give yo a hand.  

We had a  compact twin room, nice and warm, clean, tea / coffee makings with comfy beds. An open rail for easy acess to hanging clothes. The on suite had a big shower and gel. Both rooms had huge useful window cills. This room has some street and pub noise which is no problem for us, just bear in mind when booking.   Mmm the full English breakfast and staff are fab, one came up to us specially to let us know of road accident which may have hindered our departure. What more could we ask 



A lovely find.

We have been visiting as many local eateries as possible this summer and must compliment The Castle at Porlock on the homely comfort menu offered.  The service was excellent.  We were very well looked after and how nice not to have to pay before we ate.  The main course we chose was liver, bacon, mash and peas.  Couldn't fault it.  No room for dessert.  We will return again.

Excellent mid week lunch at the Castle, Hotel, Porlock  Recommended.

Staying in a nearby B&B we went searching for food. Not very much open in Porlock for an evening meal and other places saying no space.
Lovely welcome from the barman at the Castle. Lots of traditional pub grub on the menu. Food was hot and tasty and the atmosphere friendly and relaxed. Really enjoyed our evening.

We popped in for an ale yesterday and the service was fine. Popped in again and the same barman served us initially. All good. A change of staff occurred before I returned to the bar. Went up to order two meals and drinks - the meals would both have been two courses. The barman completely ignored me twice to serve customers he recognised who had arrived well after me. We left immediately and we will not return.

We went in and stood by the bar waiting to be served. The person serving continued to laugh and joke with what I think were regulars. They weren't serving them, just chatting. We were ignored for quite some time and did not feel welcome so we left.
A bit of eye contact and I'll be with you in just a moment would have been nice . 

Not very welcoming 

We visited  this evening  and although  it's not appealing  to  the  eye once you step through the  front  door  its oozed charm and had a ambiance  of  welcome.the staff were extremely  attentive  professional and proud to be there and showed that customer's  were well and truly   valued.the menu had a good variety of choices and  arrived in timely  manner it was well presented  and average  portions  a check to see if everything was ok  was extremely welcome. A little  gem on the inside

What a fantastic friendly place to stay this about our 7th time of staying the staff are fantastic friendly and helpful the rooms are lovely very clean and comfortable it’s very central for exploring exmoor the breakfast was lovely even with my strange request nothing is to much trouble for the happy smiling Patsy we will be back next year if not before thank you again for a lovely couple of days stay safe

Fantastic place

A 4 nights stay with our dog as a base to Explore Exmoor with friends that were joining us for 2 nights. We were met with a friendly welcome when we arrived and it continued throughout our stay, all the staff were outstanding.  You can tell this is family run as everyone cares and want to make the business work. Time is made for the customers and from what I had witnessed the locals were well looked after as well.  

The rooms were spacious and well decorated with a nice bathroom and amazing shower. Our friends room was brand new and they were amongst the first to stay in it. The food was nicely cooked home cooked pub food and amazing value. I had a steak which was amazing, cooked to perfection and outstanding value at £12 wow.  We will make the effort to revisit.  

The Castle Inn is well placed in Porlock which is a nice village with surrounding walks.  Although parking at the Castle is limited we were directed a few yards up the road to park at the village hall to which a donation was made when we left.

Overall an amazing stay in a Diamond of a place that offers exceptional service and value amongst today's rising prices.

A Diamond 💎 on Exmoor, great value, family run, couldn't do enough to help, rooms👌. Great no frills food, excellent bar.
