Our family chose The Dower House as a base to celebrate my mother's 70th Birthday and our 3 night stay could not be faulted.  Our rooms were clean, comfortable, warm and beautifully decorated - interlined curtains and no outside noise helped ensure a good night's sleep despite jet lag.  There was always a lovely fire on and breakfasts were delicious.  Quite honestly, I'd like an excuse to go back again!

Deserving of their great reputation!

This was one of the loveliest B&B's we stayed in during our two week trip around Scotland.  Very comfortable rooms with lovely bed linens and spacious bathroom.  Easy to find along a quiet country road and situated in a beautiful garden. A very elegant dining room and comfortable lounge or living room filled with items collected from the owner's travels around the world.  Excellent breakfast. Had two dinners in the nearby village of Beauly.  Good location for exploring northern Scotland such as Dun Robin Castle. We would come again.

Charming, friendly B&B

We stayed for one night, towards the end of July 2018, as part of a wider tour of the Highlands.  Our en-suite room was excellent, as was the welcome we received and the breakfast.  The owners were delightful and could not have done any more for us.

Highly recommended.

A great place to stay

LOCATION:  Dower House is located in the village of Muir of Ord, 13 miles north of Inverness and only minutes away from Beauly.  The property is the perfect location to explore the Highlands being close to Glen Ord Distillery, Glen Affric, Loch Ness, Inverness and Culloden.  We even ventured out to the Isle of Skye and the Moray Firth, which were an easy commute from the Dower House.  One tip:  Your SatNav may send you a few miles away, we called Mena who helped us get back on track. 

SERVICE: We were welcomed by the owners, Mena and Robyn, who were friendly and accommodating.  I would have enjoyed spending more time getting to know this great couple.  Mena offered great choices for dinner and Robyn provided us with local history. 

ACCOMODATIONS:  The home is a lovely, well-maintained home that was once the home of the widow of the manor home, Highfield, which no longer exists. The home is beautifully decorated with antiques and is a bit eclectic.  Our room was beautiful and very spacious with a sitting area and en-suite with a claw foot tub.  The room had a large window with a stunning view out to the gardens. There was an incredible attention to detail from the fresh flowers everywhere to the toiletries and coffee and tea in the room.  The location is quiet and relaxing with grounds that are absolutely stunning.  

MEALS: Breakfast was well organized and offered a buffet selection and made-to-order hot breakfast.  The buffet offered choices of fruit, yoghurts, cereals and cheese. Hot breakfast included items from porridge to a full Scottish breakfast.  Breakfast was prepared quickly and was tasty, you will not leave hungry.

RECOMMENDATION: I would highly recommend the Dower House to anyone staying in Highlands.  I can’t wait to stay here again.

It's very sad that they no longer offer evening meals but this was a lovely peaceful place for a few nights' stay in this part of Scotland. Could not fault it. Astonishing garden. We had the place to ourselves and particularly enjoyed sitting in the sitting room at night with a fire (this is Scotland!).
