A hotel that needs a lot of money spent on it. May have been nice 40 years ago but is now very much on the decline. Noisy bars opposite hotel. The carpets are very worn. Plaster coming off the walls. There is a step down into room so be careful not to fall. 

Not Good.

Sadly the lovely staff cannot compensate for the level of disrepair and urgent need for repairs this establishment is suffering. It is in part of Neath town centre that is busy and bustling, but also filthy, dilapidated and in dire need of regeneration!

It has a restrictive offsite car park nearby, with a limited stop off area outside.

Reception is welcoming but clearly updated, to include an obvious addition of a lift in the middle of what must have been a majestic staircase which looks like a terrible afterthought.
The room we stayed in is best described as grubby, small and uninspiring. Bearing no comparison to the descriptions or luxury or 'straightforward' as suggested? Forget the pictures they clearly prefer not to show their more numerous rubbish rooms.
Bathroom was shocking, numerous cracked wall tiles and huge crack in hand basin! Toilet exceptionally low and not 'entirely clean' on arrival? No slip mat inside the bath/shower thing, the pointless shower screen allowed water to spray entire bathroom making it a game of roulette to slip or fall?
Room decor was dark grey and grim, the lighting did nothing as it was equally poor and in the wrong locations. Huge grey thing shoehorned into the room to serve as a wardrobe only complimented by peeling wallpaper around the window. In sufficient  power sockets, and in wrong places. Who knows why it was fitted with an AC unit over the entry doorway, the room was permanently stuffy and hot. Fortunately, we spent limited time in the room.
I am convinced this is one of, or the actual worst room on the premises? We were very disappointed and glad to go home. OK, the rooms may not all be the same and are priced differently. But we had no other choice when booking. The overall room standards are poor, in need of urgent review - it does not meet acceptable minimum level. Damage and dilapidation in a really uninspiring grubby space - failed on every level. To qualify my experience, the next door room occupied by another family member was almost identical - grubby grim dark with the same level of awfulness, damage and poor layout.

I will be shocked if I even get a reply to this feedback.

Nice staff... stay somewhere else!

Visited this place for Sunday lunch and I was very happy big selection of veggies and meat the veggie option was nice aswell the staff was very friendly and the price was great value 2 courses 15 pound enjoyed will definitely be visiting again 

Sunday lunch

The room was small tho the bathroom was spacious. The  bedroom ceiling was cracked with loose wallpaper. Same for the walls. The bathroom was shocking! There was mould around the shower door and brown dirt engrained around the taps and shower head.  There was broken grouting around the floor tiles. There was dust and cobwebs throughout . We requested a different room but were told there were none.
The bed was up against the wall directly under the window with very poor fitting curtains so as soon as the sun was up the light flooded straight in to your face! It was noisy as was facing the main street and bars.  The breakfast was almost inedible . The bacon had obv been cooked a while and was like cardboard. The food was tepid and the staff didn't notice the warmers underneath were out. We shall NEVER stay here again  We booked this place due to an event we were attending just a short drive away and have stayed here previously and had a pleasant stay but it has sadly gone downhill and is now very poor. 

A mistake.

We were recommended to try this place by one of our fellow friends. When arriving at the property we were greeted so politely by the receptionist, Laura. She was so engaging with us and provided us the information that we needed. 
Prior to that we then went into the restaurant, we were welcomed by a gentleman called Chris and a lady called Anne. In which we were only waited for a moment to be seated. Whilst waiting to be served we noticed that the restaurant looked immaculate.  Politely Chris began to take our orders and ensured that our satisfactory needs were met. Both Chris and Anne took the opportunity to engage well with our 1-year-old daughter and was patient when needed and made our daughter feel welcomed.
Before attending The Castle Hotel, Neath we saw that the new menu was advertised on their page via Facebook in which took an interest to us. Which is why as a family we went to have a family meal there. Since revamping the menu, we could tell it has made improvements and has given a whole range of choices for a reasonable price. We are so delighted to say that we enjoyed every single bite of our meals. When receiving our starters, mains, and desserts they arrived very presentable and mouth-watering too. Thank you to the chef Jamie for making such a remarkable beautiful presentation, it goes to show how much you take pride in your work. In the restaurant there was plenty of room for bigger groups.
The presentation of the hotel overall is immaculate upon the reception of the building and restaurant. We will be making another visit soon. The castle Hotel, Neath is a child- friendly place!!

what an amazing experience.

Polite staff, bed was comfortable. Bathroom needs an update. But enjoyed the stay as perfect location to visit Swansea and Cardiff. Enough bars around the area to enjoy a drink or 2 along with food. Plenty of shops.
And great little indoor market near by.

We arrived late being met by the night porter a lovely polite young man 
Paid contactless but asked me to write down card number on check in sheet 
I informed reception in the morning as I thought this was strange Cheryl sorted this issue.
Room were freezing couldn’t get air-con to work so moved to another room 
Breakfast lovely but could of been warmer

The castle hotel

Abi J in their Nov 22 review has saved me a lot of time. Also stayed in room 10. Superficially clean but closer inspection showed nearly every horizontal surface as dusty, If as the previous review says the room was taken out out of use for deep cleaning at that stage then I dread to think what it was like in Oct/Nov. All the same issues remain. We raised the matter when leaving and were asked to email our concerns to the management. We have done and the result was an apology and an offer of an upgrade next time. Plus what appears to be a very sincere thanks for such a detailed feedback and a statement saying that the room had been decommissioned for a deep clean.
The feedback we gave was balanced because quite frankly this hotel does have a lot going for it. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good and substantial. The bar provides a very pleasant environment. We were there for a family event and the function rooms are very good. It is a convenient hotel in the middle of town and fairly close to transport links. 
Overall it provided very reasonable value for money but there needs to be more attention to detail in relation to the upkeep of the rooms to ensure it doesn’t keep getting negative reviews. 
Based on the management response we would be prepared to give them another chance but would perhaps inspect the room before agreeing to stay.

Stayed here a few times but it seems to of gone down hill- room ok but big damp patch on the ceiling and on the wall- skirting very thick black mould, bath not very clean and toilet seat was hanging off- breakfast not as good as previous stays it was cold and below average- just needs a bit more care overall

We had a 2 night stay to celebrate a birthday.  The presentation of the hotel is immaculate upon entry and bar/restaurant was impressive and inviting.  The lift was great as i have mobility issues and staff were smartly dressed and polite.
The breakfast you couldnt ask for better.  Was a little disappointed the restaurant wasnt open in the evenings but found a fab little indian not far away.  Once we got the heating sorted we were toasty. My only criticism is our room and bathroom wasnt as clean as i would like.
