A return one night trip to this wonderful B&B. Each time we come I'm wowed by how beautiful, spotlessly clean,  spacious and peaceful the house is, and it's lovely location. Generous sized room with a sea view and a supersize, very comfy bed with gorgeous bedding (we need a big bed as my partner is very tall - the Old Vicarage is top of my list for meeting his requirements!). Meg is a very welcoming and very professional host. Breakfast was delicious with good choice for different diets. Very close to Ceibwr cove and the coastal path and a short  run to St Dogmaels, Cardigan or to Newport (Pembs) for an evening meal. Also very close to the Penrallt Garden Centre which is excellent and has a fab cafe. Highly recommend.

A return trip to a stunning B&B close to the Wales coast path

Whilst our stay at the Old Vicarage was very peaceful, it was rather spoiled by the incorrect information on the website, through which we had booked directly.

Specifically, the website, which is current for 2023, states:

'A welcome hamper of fresh eggs from our hens, orange juice, organic local milk, teapigs tea, fairtrade coffee and a loaf of homemade bread will start you off just right.'

There was no welcome hamper - no fresh eggs, no orange juice, no Teapigs tea and no homemade bread. The coffee bags were from The Little Coffee Company, which does not carry the Fairtrade kite mark. There was only one 'normal' Clipper tea bag, the rest were Earl Grey and fruit teas.

When we raised the lack of a hamper with Meg on the afternoon of our arrival, she did not acknowledge any mention of hampers on the website and only sounded surprised that we had not been provided with any milk, which she then provided. When my partner raised this again when he was checking out, Meg took £10 off our final bill. This however doesn't take away from the fact that The Old Vicarage is contravening the Trade Descriptions Act (1968) which aims to safeguard consumers against misleading claims about products and services. It is there to ensure that businesses and salespeople are honest about what they are selling, because to do otherwise is an offence. Meg seemed to pass the issue off as simply a matter of the website not having been updated, saying that the Old Vicarage no longer provides hampers for the birch huts. However, the website is dated 2023. Apart from anything else, it was disappointing to not get what we had been expecting (especially as we booked direct through the website) and made worse by Meg's laid-back attitude to this.

Also claimed on the website is that the birch hut has 'a gorgeous memory foam & pocket sprung king size bed'. It was not this at all. Not only was the mattress not memory foam and pocket sprung, it was in fact old, sagging and stained (as evidenced by attached photo).

We found it rather odd that we received an email and a text message asking us to check in online. The email stated the reason for 'express check-in prior to arrival' was 'to avoid queues at the front desk'. However, bearing in mind that The Old Vicarage is a small bed and breakfast establishment and not a large international airline, this seemed rather out of proportion. In addition, bearing in mind the check-in email was from the 'Reception team', it was surprisingly difficult to find anyone from the team to settle our bill with on the morning of our departure, despite the fact that we were checking out at the required time. When my partner finally located Meg, after having gone upstairs in the main house to ask someone who was cleaning the bedrooms, Meg said she had been out walking her dog. Again, it was odd that she was out walking her dog at check out time when people would be needing to pay their bills and that there was nobody else from the reception 'team' available to take our payment.

We received an automated email following our stay, saying the Old Vicarage hoped we enjoyed our stay. I replied to the email giving details about why we would not book to stay here again, but I received no reply from the Old Vicarage. The have not bothered to update their website so it still contains incorrect information. I am in the process of taking the matter to Trading Standards. 



Poor experience, not as described on website

We loved our stay at the Old Vicarage.  Meg and Jaap were welcoming, hospitable, and served a great breakfast in a wonderful home.  If you are tired of finding parking at downtown B&Bs in the small or big city, then this is the place for you.  There is wonderful hiking nearby including trails along the coast, many stone circle burial ground monuments, interesting castles in Cardigan, and serenity everywhere.  The roads are scenic, narrow, and fun to drive but you may want to consider a smaller rental car.

B&B Treasure off the beaten path

Great location, stayed in the Birch Hut which was a wonderful experience. The hut itself was superbly layed out and finished beautifully. 

Located in the large gardens of the Old Vicarage, the hut had outside seating, so we had our own dining area where we could watch the sun go down and the stars appear. Optional breakfast in the main house was excellent too.

The welcome and standard of accommodation was superb. The attention to detail was amazing including music choice , decor and scents.

Breakfast was delicious. A very relaxing stay.

Superb

Superb bed and breakfast. Very friendly hosts, lovely peaceful location.  Superb clean comfy room with a view. Breakfasts were super too. Just would have liked some fruit or fish on the menu as healthy options perhaps 

Fantastic bed and breakfast hotel.

This was our second stay here after staying here around five years ago and we enjoyed it just as much as our first! The rooms are lovely and clean and the breakfast is delicious. Meg and Jaap and everyone involved do a great job. Bruno (our dog) was reunited with Twm (their dog)  which was lovely to see too.

We Stayed at the old vicarage for two nights and was blown away by this fantastic B&B the hosts were very attentive and helpful. The room was very charming with lovely views across the garden and with the sea in the distance. Everything was spotlessly clean and fresh. Food was locally sourced and fresh with a good choice of hot and cold breakfasts. I believe we may have been the only guests staying in the B&B and took full advantage of the peace and quiet. Although stepping outside was very windy but thats January weather in Wales. They also do shepherds huts which if the B&B is anything to go by im sure will be something we will look at next time.

Great B&B 

A very high quality B&B (and tapas hampers for dinner if required). The rooms are huge, warm, beautifully decorated with excellent beds and walk in showers. The breakfast is first class, Meg is delightful. So much attention to detail. Book early!

Exceptional

Please note this review is for how we were dealt with regards to a cancellation and not the actual accommodation.

My wife and I were booked in for 2 nights on 22nd July. Sadly on Thursday 21st July I contracted Covid. I emailed on the 21st asking if there was any chance we could swap the dates for another time in the quiet season as it was such short notice if possible. We received no reply. Sent an email on the 22nd asking the same and received no reply. Tried ringing, no reply. Our family were with us so we thought they could've taken the booking instead of us but as we had no reply, we returned home.

On the Saturday my wife rang and got through. The property claimed that they suffered from a power shortage and this was the reason they did not reply to email/phone calls. We asked if they had a covid policy and we were told no and then the phonemail was cut off.  We understand that government guide lines are that you don't have to isolate, however as someone who worked through the pandemic in the NHS  I was concerned going to a property with covid and using the shared facilities i.e. restaurant even though we were in the cabin.

I then emailed and asked if they would've been happy for us to turn up to their property with covid,  and could they possibly reconsider swapping our dates to a quieter time of the year, No reply. Waited a few days, resent the email, no reply.

Totally understand it was a last minute cancellation but the fact we had no reply due to a power shortage at the property which meant we couldn't send family replacements, I find somewhat unfair.

We have received no apology or correspondence from the property.Just really disappointing and amateurish in my mind.
