We used the Lord Nelson again to facilitate a family gathering in Sutton on Trent. Everyone had a wonderful time. The rooms at the pub are clean and extremely comfortable and very reasonably priced!
Breakfast is always a hit and enjoyed by all.
Thoroughly recommended.

Excellent pub and hotel

we stayed several nights,our en suits was in the old stables,lovely make over,our dog made very welcome,pretty area,when we next visit family in area we will stay here again,.such a pretty village,very clean,good access for us oldies/


we so enjoyed our stay at THE LORD NELSON

Stayed here over night on the way to collecting our new puppy. The pub is really very nice and quaint.
The selection of beers is great and they do a mean Guinness.
We had fish and chips for an evening meal and it was very tasty. The fish batter was lovely  but a bit too cridou for me, great tasting dinner.
The staff we're extremely polite and attentive at all times. Very friendly too.
We stayed in room 2 which was comfortable but it does need a bit of an update as the walls have the paper falling off in places and the bathroom needs updating.
For the money, it's not bad at all.
They have some very nice looking stable bedrooms which look lovely but are probably more expensive.
Our breakfast was very nice.
Wouldn't mind staying here again but probably on the stables next time.

Nice place to eat and drink and stay.

Had an excellent stay at The Lord Nelson.  The staff and management are very friendly and keen to ensure everything was good for us. Food was lovely. We stayed in one of the stable block rooms and with having 2 of my dogs with me, it was absolutely perfect.  Room was clean and comfortable with plenty of refreshments available. The radiator was switched on before I entered the room, however it hadn't heated up. This was addressed immediately and the room was warm in no time. Good ensuite facilities. Totally pet friendly. Couldn't fault our stay. Awesome.

We stayed at the Lord Nelson while visiting family in Lincoln and went to the Lincoln Christmas Market. This was the worst overnight stay we have ever had - we even left early because we didn’t want to stay in the room any longer than necessary. We stayed in Room 2. The  bed sheets were dirty with old makeup on the sheets, women’s eyelashes on the pillows and dirty marks under the pillow. The bathroom has mould in the shower/bath. The bedroom light was so dark I was unable to look in my suitcase for my belongings. The wallpaper was falling off the wall and there were cobwebs and spiders in the corners of the room. Lastly, a neighbouring room played loud music until 2am which caused a lot of distress to my 1 year old child.  
We originally paid an extra £20 to have breakfast in the morning, but after seeing the room we decided against this - they were unable to issue a refund when we checked out despite us not staying for breakfast. 
Very disappointing and ruined the weekend away.

Worst overnight stay ever

I lived at the Manor House in Sutton-on-Trent in the early eighties & have very happy memories of the Lord Nelson. My son is getting married in Normanton in September 2023 & I really wanted to book all 8 rooms for 2 nights for our family. I called in at the pub to enquire about availability & was assured the manager would contact me. After a couple of weeks of silence I phoned the pub & tried again to book the rooms. Once again, absolutely no response. We’ve now booked elsewhere but I’m so sad that a pub that was such an important part of my parents-in-law’s lives couldn’t be bothered to at least give me a quick call. John & Gwynfa Bradbury would have been horrified. Such a shame.

So disappointed & upset!

lovely  locals  type pub with a busy little resturant.
we stayed in one of the rooms overnight and could not ask for more.

if i had to find a negative, it would be my meal was served on a wooden chopping board.
i know this is the current trend to look contempary but all i ask for is good food,  nicely presented, on a clean plate.  no chopping boards, no slate, no house bricks,  no portion of chips in a wire basket  etc.

The waitress though was great,  she got me a nice plate,  and once i had transfered my meal onto the plate i was  happy eater.

She did comment, that no one else had ever asked for a plate.  i suspect this is more down to people not wanting to make a "fuss"  than their desire to eat off wood.

Very friendly

We ate twice at the restaurant and both times had wonderful food. Between us, we had the chicken, a steak, both vegetarian options, and the scampi. All were faultless, fresh veg and beautifully cooked and presented. The puddings were to die for.
We stayed for two nights and the room was spotless and very comfortable.

Fabulous food and a warm welcome

One of the highlights when visiting family in this lovely village is the Lord Nelson
Bar is warm and cosy with a separate dining area 
Pictures can’t do the meals  justice as the taste was incredible 
Thoroughly enjoyed and as a result sadly too full to try one of the puddings

Many  positives about the Lord Nelson , but for us , the wonderful food, choice of drinks , friendly staff , comfortable surroundings and being.dog friendly are more than enough ! .
