Room was mouldy and plaster coming off the ceiling, toilets are too far from room
And not very clean also blocked 3 times in 2 days, then they take a deposit off you which is fair enough but find very petty excuses not to give you it back terrible service and very dirty place 

Terrible 

The room was basic but spotlessly clean, as were the toilets & showers. The bed was very comfortable & the heating was good, and it wasn't as noisy as I expected. The staff were friendly & very helpful too. This was my first time staying at the Albatross Hostel as I was going the Darren Hayes concert at the O2 City Hall & it wasn't too far from the venue. I would recommend this hostel to anyone & would definitely stay there again. 

Very nice hostel

Solo female traveller!

This was my first time in a hostel and I have to say I will be returning. Perfect location, warm and safe rooms and despite being a bank holiday, it wasn't noisy at all.

The staff were absolutely fantastic. They moved me from a 4 bed dorm with 3 guys to a 6 bed female dorm they had space in so I'd feel safer, without me even asking. I had an issue with my card and they did their very best to help me fix it. Honestly can't thank them enough. Would highly recommend and will be returning.

Brilliant safe base for solo female travellers!

Good hostel with good facilities, but all the staff were lovely especially Mathew Kate (the one with the ginger beard) who was kind enough to help me sort a problem I had. He is a lovely man and all the staff deserve a raise.

Roughly 25 of us stayed at the Albatross in July '22.

Good points: it was clean, the staff were friendly, kitchen/shared facilities were ok and again clean and well looked after. The hostel is in a good spot in the middle of lots of bars and restaurants. For budget accommodation, it is difficult to complain a great deal.

Bad points: our room was absolutely sweltering, which made sleep difficult, and we couldn't open the window. The toilets, while serviceable and clean were a shared facility and unfortunately our room was about 2 flights of stairs (down, across a corridor and back up again) away from them. No lift to our room on the 3rd floor also wasn't ideal.

In summary, I'm sure the heat issues aren't a regular occurrence. So, if you want somewhere budget, that is clean with nice staff, and are not bothered about shared toilet facilities that could be a few mins away from your room, this place is an ok base for Newcastle. 

Stayed for a rugby tour, not bad for a hostel, good facilities but too hot and could have done with a closer toilet!

Location was good, beds were comfortable but that's the only good thing about it.

One of the staff members acussed my friend for spitting down the stairs in which she was completely wrong apparently she seen him on CCTV but it was someone else. 

You have to climb 2 flights of stairs to go to the bathroom and the shower. No towels provided for guests. Sometimes toilet paper isn't replaced by staff when empty.

The kitchen is beside the bathroom, there was a constant smell of Indian food throughout the corridor. No one seemed to clean up after themselves, of course cooking your food is completely ok but the constant smell of curry, korma etc was horrendous when trying to get a shower or go to the toilet.

Average

Stayed in hostels before, but of course, never know what to expect. Stayed here for Magic Weekend (rugby league) and absolutely no problems with this one, staff were extremely pleasant, welcoming and friendly, hostel itself was very clean and ideal location, looking forward to going again next year ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Magic Weekend

This city centre hostel is outstanding for long or short stays in the heart of the city. Room are basic and very clean. Kitchen where you can cook a meal tea and coffee is free. Would I stay again yes most definitely. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Trip to the North

We stored our luggage at the Albatross for 2 days last week. It was very close to Central station and the staff member we meet at reception was lovely and very helpful, patient and friendly. If we needed a night in central Newcastle upon Tyne it is in a great location. 

Used it through Stasher for storing luggage for 2 days

Clean and tidy, very helpful staff. Would highly recommend! One of the best hostels that I’ve stayed in and I’ve stayed in a few. And the price is very very reasonable too. Can’t think of anything else to say so gonna fill for a bit 😂
