Fluffy pillows, cosy room, great surfing gear for half price of other rentals, 5 minutes from the beach and town centre, supermarket and lovely coffee shop (milk and café) nearby, great thai takeaway next to hostel, friendly staff with cute dog - all you want from a surf lodge! I’ll be back to catch some more waves next year.

Best basecamp for a surf adventure!

I went with a group of friends. We got a private double room and 4 bedroom. 

Staff were super friendly and knowledgeable. Great to be able to get surf boards and wetsuits from the hostel. Excellent to have a secure area to shower and store boards outside. Short walk to fistral beach and pubs and restaurants. 

Elemental surf trip

Visited with friends, cheap enough and in a good location, parking advertised but you can't actually park on site. The bathroom door didn't shut or lock it was too twisted, the windows knackered and seized open, and the locks dodgy on the front door really hard to lock. Random missing plaster etc inside the place and all abit run down. Staff were good though

Abit run down

Great little place with plenty to do close by. Went away with 3 mates and none of us have a bad thing to say about it. Very friendly staff and locals. Reasonably priced.  We hope to stay again in the future!

Friendly Staff. Highly Recommend

I would recommend not booking through lastminute.com or booking.com. The room we booked was falsely advertised with a twin room with two separate single beds and quite spacious. We arrived and the room was absolutely tiny and had bunk beds! The host took us to the room and was quite blasé when he told us that the toilet door was broken, apparently other guests before us broke it. Would have appreciated an offer for maintenance to come and fix it or something at least, but he just kind of mentioned it and left. So no privacy when going to the toilet. (There are toilets down stairs but not great when we have paid £84 a night for a room) We went and spoke to the lady on the front desk and she said she would send someone up to see to it but nobody came. We did make an attempt to find someone to ask to change rooms on our first night but we couldn't find anyone and by then we spent most of the time out and about so we tolerated it. The listing said parking available at the lodge, got a message the day before the trip to say no parking available so needed to use long stay £8.40 a day up the road. The listing also said breakfast but that was not an option when we arrived either. Walls are paper thin, could hear other guests snoring and we were lucky that it wasn't too busy during our stay but a few guests were up all night talking and you could hear every word. We appreciated that we booked a ''budget'' room but for £85 a night lacking basic facilities and the standard of the room was pretty shocking for that price! The only positive about the stay was the location, great for getting in to town easy. Also the girl on the front desk was sweet.

Wouldn't stay again

Very clean and well looked after. This was perfect places, warm and well catered for our holiday! Great place. Short walk from main fistral beach where you can sit have meals and appreciate the wonders of fistral beach

Holiday break

Good location, as town is walking distance.

The facilities are basic but cleaned. 

Beds are definitely overdue a replacement which is a shame as all we needed was a good night sleep.

If the beds would have been good, my rating would have been much different. We realise this was a budget place when booked and were prepared for basic rooms, but still a good bed is a minimum. 

Basic expensive

For those that don’t need much, but value location and the simple things this is ideal. A couple unfortunate negatives: WiFi didn’t seem to work for me (might have just been rooms location); 1 very small window making room occasionally stuffy; no remote for tv so couldn’t change channel. However apart from these, everything else, personally, is a positive. Minimalist style room was cute and good for fitting surfboard. Hanger in shower for wetsuits. Perfect location: 5-10 minutes from Fistral or town centre, without being caught in the oneway system allowing for easy access. Would very much recommend and definitely would think of this place for next trip to Newquay! 

Simplicity and Ease

Visited this week while in newquay. It was basic, clean, great location, staff were friendly and helpful. No frills and I would recommend to all surfers or travelers and ten minute walk to Fistral l.

Perfect for the price. 

Budget surf lodge

It was only at the last minute that my group discovered that its agent had placed us at the Ocean Lodge and we are extremely glad they did! From arrival, Shannon and his team were attentive to our varying needs and provided us with an excellent stay. Rooms were comfortable and the catering was inclusive of a range of challenging medical and dietary needs. Ocean Lodge is in a great location and there’s easy access to Fistral, the harbour, town centre and other amenities. Thank you Shannon, Johnny and Alison, and we hope to see you again next year!
