No need to leave hostel as entertainment lies within. Wall chair being our favourite quirky feature. The views from the top are exceptional. 

Also enjoyed the maze to the room.

 10/10 stay throughout recommend. 

Top gaff 

My daughter stayed here with here friends on a school trip. The rooms are basic to say the least. Mould in both bed room and bathroom. Beds have plastic mattresses on. Food wasn’t even fit to serve to a dog. Don’t waste your money. 0 out of 10. Avoid at all costs!!!!

Awful, Awful, AWFUL

Bertie’s Lodge is the best value, greatest and most underrated hotel I have ever been to. Immediately upon arriving, the check-in process was incredibly quick and the staff were friendly. The room I was assigned was brilliant, large and would not look out of place in any five star hotel. Food was impeccable, luxury restaurant quality, honestly a great bargain. The beds were soft and the bathroom was spacious. The experience was premium. The lodge is also connected to Bertie’s Nightclub for evening entertainment. A hidden gem, will definitely be going back.

The greatest hotel I’ve ever been to

Bro, it was the best place I’ve ever been to. Room was simple, yet complex, the bathroom was bigger than I would’ve ever imagined. Overall, great place to stay, would highly recommend. If you do go there, I would recommend Bertie’s Nightclub as well.

Best choice ever

Honestly I don’t know what was worse, the shabby rooms that we all got or the rudest manager I’ve ever been in contact with. 

After kindly asking the manager where we can park he said “You can go 10 minutes down the road, I have guests in looking after.” By looking after I presume he means panic buying coke and lemonade from Tesco because the hotel ran out for the wedding they were looking after. 

The view from the window was a beautiful view but as it was so disgusting on the inside it felt like I was in Shawshank desperately planning my escape. 

The staff of berties were friendly (obviously bar the manager) and they are the only thing that gives the place any dignity. 

Honestly, don’t bother booking. You’re better paying £10 entry for the club down the road and pitching your tent in the corner. 

Found out I like Cornish pasties though.

Don’t

I’m not normally one to write reviews, but this hotel was so utterly terrible that it compelled me to write my first one!!! I’ll keep it short and sweet- the worst customer service I’ve ever received (shout out to the manager for this especially), combined with a horrible room makes for the most unpleasant  hotel I’ve ever been to. Oh and also we were fined £100 for staying in their car park for 15 minutes despite being told specifically we could stay there to unpack our bags and then move on. To sum it up- laughably bad and I strongly advise to not visit here.

Absolutely dreadful

Visited after a last minute booking due to our other accommodation being cancelled last minute and only being able to find Berties lodge. 
It was very basic, with very few sockets for the size of the room. It appeared clean enough apart from a snot being found in one of the bed sheets (we thankfully had too many beds anyway, so we slept in the clean ones). There was also some gum stuck to the shower wall that had been there a while because it was covered in black mould.
It was very loud during the night, but I wasn’t expecting a decent sleep in a hostel anyway. 
Decent for a group of young people just needing somewhere to rest their heads. 
I would’ve also preferred if the full length mirror that had been obviously smashed then taken down was replaced, so I would have somewhere to get ready. 
Otherwise, it was decently priced and I heard from a friend who attended a party at the nightclub that it was pretty good!

Basic stay

Probably the worst customer service I have ever received, we weren’t greeted greeted with a hello, only a full car park. Tried to find the manager to ask where we can park, when we found him he wafted his hand and said ‘find me in ten’ the receptionist said we could park there to unload our bags then pay for another car park for our stay (we later got fined 100 pounds for staying at the lodges car park for 17 mins). The rooms were not what we ordered (8 months prior), when bringing it up we were told we can have a full refund and ‘find somewhere else to sleep’ finally we managed to get a half refund. Rooms were pretty gross, beds were extremely uncomfortable and there was only one pillow each (sorry if I’m being too demanding).  Again on departure, no goodbye, not even a smile. The other staff seemed decent but The ‘boss’ as he called himself was extremely unhelpful, rude and clearly ran a loose and disorganised ship as everyone was stressed, tired and looking like they hated working there.  Honestly don’t waste your money. We were only there for one night before moving onto park deans camping resort who had some of the nicest staff we have met, extremely accommodating and helpful.

Made to feel like an inconvenience

We arrived at the Victoria hotel which also manages berties lodge on 26th July. We were greeted by a VERY slow man. Who didn’t really care whether the room was ready or not. We waited an hour an 10 minutes for our room after check in. 
When told where our room was, not escorted we got lost. Walked into a cleaning staff room infact.
The room we was provided wasn’t the best compared to the pictures. We had stained carpets and hair in the sink which me and my friend now refuse to use the shower. 
Bunk beds moved and wasn’t safe and doesn’t follow the regulations of health and safety. 
Some of the staff seem lovely, especially the cleaning staff. Very helpful. 
On arrival the staff seemed stressed and unorganised which make them difficult to approach (considering the staff were front of house, this didn’t give a good impression)
Wouldn’t really recommend staying here, there’s a travel lodge down the road. 
We found any excuse to just not be in the room, the pub next door is brilliant tho.
Oh, the hotel also smells x

CATFISH OF HOTELS

Screens all over the place showing live sports. Very comfortable surroundings and decent service - especially during the week. The downside is that this comes at a price - its 30% more expensive than its peers.
