From initial enquiry through to check-out every part of my stay was faultless. Stay itself was very pleasant from arrival and check-in onwards. Room was lovely. Comfortable double bed and pillows. Nice en-suite with good powerful shower. Good variety of teas, coffees and hot chocolate in room. Nice guest lounge leads out onto area of garden for guests use. Lovely breakfast room and breakfast using lots of locally sourced products. Good vegetarian options. Excellent value for money. Nice area close to town centre in the heart of the beautiful Galloway countryside. Owners Dane and Fay are very welcoming and friendly hosts. Hospitality as it should be. Thank You.

Lovely Overnight Stay

Fay and Dane are the perfect hosts and make you so welcome. Nothing is too much trouble and they have excellent local knowledge.  The breakfast is wonderful and the rooms are cozy. We can’t wait for our next visit .

This is my second visit to this B&B and it won't be the last.  The rooms are clean, warm and comfortable.  This is cycle friendly with a safe space to store bikes. The hosts Dane and Fay are both cyclists and enjoy the outdoors.  Breakfast is very good, A very pleasant stay. Highly recommended.

We spent a few nights at the Stables Guest House during a cycling trip thru the region. The hosts were amazing and knowledgeable about the area. They helped us refine our routes for the cycling days. Food and accommodations were fantastic. Hosts were very welcoming and accommodating - we felt very at home. Would highly recommend this for others passing through the area.

Amazing cycling vacation!

Stayed here in a family group of 9 when attending a local wedding. Hosts Dane and Fay couldn't have been more helpful or accommodating, the bedrooms were great and the guest sitting room was well equipped. Couldn't recommend more highly.

Top notch

Stayed there for two nights this week and I have to say the place, and the owners, were fantastic. This is my fourth business trip to Newton Stewart over the past few years and the fourth hotel/b&b I have stayed in too, demand outstrips availability here so book early for Newton Stewart and book here if it’s available.

First Class

Had a great time during May 2021 after multiple lockdowns. Took my partner and two young children for a two week stay. Lots of local activities to enjoy, would highly recommend. Great breakfast, great hosts, superb location...

Great stay

Enjoyed a lovely short break at The Stables hosted by Fay & Dane.
Very welcoming, newly decorated throughout in a modern & tasteful style.
Great choice of breakfasts to satisfy all tastes.
Fay & Dane are very knowledgeable about the local area re amenities & suggestions & advice on  local outdoor activities, as keen walkers themselves. 
For keen hillwalkers Merrick, & Cairnsmore hills are nearby. Or Corserine if you have more time, We did the complete Corserine walk n 7 hours,fantastic views from the the summit, great way to escape life's stresses, &  fun to spot the many lochs & hills in the locality.
Also great location if you like water sports as Loch Ken Watersport Activity Centre nearby offers kayaking , boat hire, & other fun activities. You can always try wild swimming there if you are brave &  want an exhilarating experience, Wetsuits can be hired f you don't have one! 
For family fun the Red Deer Centre is close by where you can enjoy the thrill of feeding the red deer at lunchtime.  This is a great experience for all ages to get close to wild but gentle animals that will take carrots from your hand. Feeding the stag was particularly special.
Highly recommend a stay at The Stables you won't be disappointed if you enjoy the great outdoors!

Review of my mini break at The Stables B&B

Hosted by Fay and Dane, a lovely chatty couple, with a really good knowledge of all the area has to offer

The Basics:
Bed - spotless and comfortable
Bathroom - equally spotless, loads of hot water, soaps etc of good quality (according to my girlfriend)
Breakfast - generous quantities of locally sourced ingredients: everything from full English to freshly made fruit salad to simple toast and coffee

The Accomodation
Stables has a number of well equiped double rooms supported by a spacious dining room and comfortable little sitting room with a superb library of local guidebooks and maps (Fay and Dale are keen walkers and cyclists). The Guest House is located centrally although on a quiet side-street in a nice part of town with pretty much everything within a 10-minute walk.

The Area
Dumfries and Galloway is a genuinely undiscovered gem. Although the scope for walking and mountain biking is huge no one seems to be there... in perspective my friends and I walked one of the longer ridges on our first day and over a 14km excursion only saw 3 people and it was a sunny August Bank Holiday Saturday!

We paid £300 for four nights B&B, would I return? Happily, whether I will I'm less certain as it really is a long drive from Oxford and the B/H traffic was truely awful south of Carlise

Exceptional

Loved our stay here, we arrived on the 6th Aug and departed on the 8th Aug 2021. It was clean and well presented. The hosts were friendly and welcoming and made us feel very much at home, nothing seemed too much for them. The cooked breakfast was awesome and there was plenty of choices available if you didn’t fancy a cooked breakfast. Situated literally 5 mins walk from Newton Stewart. There was also on site parking which was convenient too. The rooms were modern and very clean with tea & coffee available if required. I don’t want to rave on too much about the place as next time we book, it’ll probably be full! You won’t be disappointed though. Do it!
