Terrible, cold, damp and horrible host who rang me up and abused me the following day on the phone because I asked for a refund at check out.
The main house was lovely and at check in was warm and welcoming but we were shown to a cold, damp, dirty lodge, when we complained we were upgraded to another cold, damp,dirty lodge

Worst place I have ever stayed and I only stayed because I couldn't find anywhere else

We booked 2xdeluxe double rooms and when we checked in were shown to a cold, damp, dirty 2 bed cottage with only 2 of 4 radiators working and one bath towel between the two of us. We complained and were 'upgraded' to a bungalow. Radiator in twin bedroom didn't work, TV had no aerial and it was so cold I slept with the duvets from both beds, fully clothed to keep warm.
Radiator in double bedroom worked but as place was so damp wasn't man enough to take the chill off. Bathroom was warm but dated and dirty.
My friend tried to get warm with a hot shower and slept on the kitchen sofa as it was warmer than the bedrooms.
We complained in the morning and were given a 50% refund and declined breakfast. The owner reversed the refund after we had left. Which is fraud!!!!
Owner saw my honest review and phoned me next day and was very abusive. Called me a bitch, a cow and a liar. He said not only had he reversed the refund, he was charging me an extra £40 as claimed we had taken dogs into the room - which is untrue!

If you don't mind cold, damp, dirty, accommodation when you've booked deluxe rooms, and an abusive owner, then go ahead and book. Otherwise avoid it at all costs - there's a good travelodge a stones throw away!!!!

Disgusting place

friendly hosts, clean but slightly  dated but in keeping with property, comfortable nights sleep, although the constant noise of the A1 had trouble getting off to sleep, lovely breakfast,  very akward getting back onto A1 when leaving

Lovely friendly place, relaxed and family run.
Very old house with period features.
On the main arterial to London.
Breakfast was superb.
Owners a pleasure to meet.
Animal friendly.
Will definitely return soon.

Had a lovely stay-cation weekend

Stayed here for 1 night.
Greeted by a poorly lit car park, with no obvious signage to reception.checked in by an  older fella who didn't really go through any protocol
Wifi is non existent with an oversized room with NO HEATING except for a tin pot electric heater which takes ages to warm just one corner.
Furniture looks  its from a charity shop with no investment from the owner.Room stunk of damp ,its not healthy. Shame on the owners

This place was great for a quick stop on our way home at the weekend. The accommodation is nothing fancy but neither is the price. We had driven south to buy a car and not wanting to face the long drive back to Glasgow we found this place. We had two dogs and we had a good sized room with a sitting area which was ideal. It was an additional £10 each for the dogs which was reasonable.

The owners were charming and the breakfast was great. Would recommend if on a budget and needing somewhere for a quick stop over.

Good A1 stop over

Recently stayed here, lovely staff, spacious rooms, nice breakfast, nice grounds, scenery, gardens, building, I do recommend it, great value for money, good facilities, plenty of space to park the car, easy to find 😊

Friendy and welcoming hotel

Booked through late rooms with confirmation from same to find the hotel closed and a repossession notice in the conservatory window late rooms refuse to accept any responsibility will never use these shysters again

Having booked this 3 weeks before hand we were looking forward to our weekend away. We received a confirmation email to say everything was booked. However we arrived to find the place in darkness and the carpark entrance coned off. We rang the contact number only to be told by the owner that he had no notice of our booking and he was away for 2 weeks. So I feel I'm not able to give this establishment a very good review.

Don't bother 

Firstly this hotel is run by the friendliest people I've ever encountered in the bed and breakfast trade. Nothing was too much trouble and the history of the building was intriguing. We stayed for one night and absolutely loved our stay. Checked in at 2.30 and spent the afternoon sunbathing in the lovely garden. So relaxing and although there was a lot of traffic noise it was a beautiful way to spend the afternoon. After a bottle of champagne we returned to our room. It's not the ritz granted but was quirky and very clean. The A1 is adjacent to the hotel and it was noticeable initially but we got used to the noise and slept very well. Breakfast was very enjoyable and filled us for the day. We will definitely return and will book the room Queen Victoria stayed in on our next visit. As I said, this place has a lot of history and character. Thank you for a lovely break
