The entrance and staircase smelled of mould and damp, carpets were threadbare in many places, our bathroom had a leaking roof, there was no blind on the skylight in our room, and the curtain was falling off. Vastly overpriced for what we got - even by usual Oban summer prices.

Would not recommend it

This hotel transports you back in time  with modern amenities and clean rooms with the old town house decor and feel. 

It’s central Oban with everything on the door step. Sea views from the rooms. 

It’s as basic as you like or for a little extra the staff will go out of their way to do anything for you. 

Although not my style I found the staff warm welcoming and very attentive if I needed anything. Ann was a delight. 

Thank you for being so kind. The family are well known in the town and support their local community anyway they can. The bar has everything you want and breakfasts always local produce. 

Lovely night in a comfortable bed nice and warm rooms kept to a high standard. It can be hard to keep buildings like this one warm but our room was nice and warm. 

Would be more than happy to stay here again. If ultra modern is your thing this probably won’t be your thing. I have to say sometimes it’s nice to escape fro that works and experience somthing completely different.

Old unique and family run.

I thought my room at 150 pounds a night without breakfast was a bit expensive.
The room was small compact but spotlessly clean and comfortable.

Very nice 2 night stay at The Palace Hotel in a single room. Yes there is no lift, yes breakfast is extra but….
The host was helpful and very friendly/accommodating. The website lets people know there is no lift and if you don’t want to pay for breakfast there’s a Wetherspoons <5 minutes away. 
The important things are it’s good value for money and clean as a whistle.

Oban Weekend

When booking 2 nights at the Hotel via Booking.Com it stated Parking and WiFi. It did not mention the parking was a first come first served council park at £5 for 24 Hours behind the Hotel, and that WiFi for the rooms had to be paid for. The breakfast was advertised at £17.50 per head which we thought was expensive, so ate out.
But the main problem was the room location. We were in room 16 on the 4th floor, a total of 89 steps with no lift. There was a chair on every landing we now know why. We struggled with the stairs, so anyone with Health or Mobility Problems would not have been able to get to the room. That said the room was clean and tidy, but dated.

Strange check in . Owners pops her head around door tells us to fill in form hands us our key and that’s it . Not the best welcome . Room was clean but dated . Fan goes on in bathroom when light is switched on .like a motorcycle getting reved up . No shelf to put toiletries. All the hotel rules etc are at reception so you need to go back down to find out how to work tv which was a total nightmare . Owners son eventually sorted it . Wifi is pay as you go which I’ve never heard of . You get free wifi out in the Main Street but inconvenient especially as it’s meant to be free in your room when booking . Keys just get left at reception when leaving . No interaction again with owners . Agree with no food in room but no beverages allowed is rediculious. Overall this hotel is not what you expect for £100 with no breakfast . Won’t be returning or recommending

Fine for a night

We stayed here for two nights just recently and got the room on the top floor where views are gorgeous must admit.   We didn’t have breakfast here so can’t comment.  Room was fine and clean.  Don’t expect it easy to find parking h in Oban it’s a bit of a nightmare , I would recommend taking the train if you can much less stressful.  
What I did think odd and  have never experienced it in all my years was that of an evening we like to have a glass of wine whilst getting ready for the evening and do this wherever we go as it’s like a treat, but when we returned that evening a sign was on the fridge saying “we don’t allow alcohol”.   It really put a dampener on it and we won’t  stay here again sorry.  Didn’t see the guy on checkout as would have mentioned it to him but hey ho,

Decent hotel on the front

Booked one night, stayed 3!  Very clean, central, comfortable, friendly.  Nearby parking £5 for 24 hrs. Lots of stairs, no lift, beautiful view over Oban Bay, noisy outside with window open, but no problem closed.  Good breakfast

Excellent base for local exploring

We booked this last minute as bad planning on our part meant we had to make a quick decision. The entrance and stair case up to reception were clean but looked a bit dated. The guy who checked us in was very welcoming.
The room was quite basic but spotless. The bathroom was also more than adequate and very clean.
When I tried to adjust the shower head the fitting tube came loose and I had to shove it back in but these things happen.
The bed and the linen were absolutely lovely. Very comfy bed indeed.
My 2 biggest criticisms are the tiny cups, you can't make a decent cuppa in those miniscule cups. The pillows  were awful. Hard and unwieldy.
Other than that it suited our brief visit. 

Fine for one night. 

This was booked directly by PFO Scotland in order that I attend court on behalf of the prosecution. 

On arrival, I learned my accommodation for the night was what appeared to be a cleaning cupboard with a single bed.

No fixed window and a slatted opening for ventilation.

A family member travelled with me to offer support and had booked in elsewhere.

She did see the accommodation I was offered and said that a prisoner nor animal would have been subjected to such a pathetic, mediocre room.

At this point she arranged for me to spend the night at the lodgings she had booked.

I received a call from the Palace Hotel HQ in Bradford to inform me that they had taken a call from a colleague at the hotel
to inform them that I was not in their hotel alone at this time and that only a booking for one person was indicated on the booking.  I informed them that the information received was in fact lies and that I would in fact have been staying alone had the room been of an acceptable level for a human.

At that point I collected my belongings.

The PFO received a call this morning to say that an additional cost would apply for the “additional guest”.

I visited the court today to furnish them with a receipt for the debit card payment made for the alternative accommodation necessary as I would have rather slept in my car that take the offer of the room arranged.  An email confirming the alternative lodgings was also furnished to the court.

I would strongly advise against booking this hotel at all costs.

This has been an extremely stressful time for me and the treatment received by the hotel has been disgusting and added further unnecessary stress.
