We thorough enjoyed our stay at the Kelvin. Parking was next door and very convenient. Our room (#5) was large and very well appointed with a kitchenette, large TV and 2 windows overlooking the street and the ferry terminal.  The hotel is older but cozy and welcoming. We would definitely stay here again.

Great spot!

4 couples had 4 separate rooms. Rooms were comfortable, clean and had the ammenities we expected. Our 3 planned days were wonderful in Oban but then the rains started; in 24 hours they had gotten a month's worth of rain. We had left town, had driven approximately 20 miles down the road where we were stopped by the police, the road was closed because of the water over the road. So we went back the the Kelvin and asked if she had room for us, saying that we could spit rooms if needed. Sheena the host said she did have space for us especially since the guest that should have been arriving were probably not coming. So we spent another day in Oban. The next morning was gray but not raining. All morning we poured over Scotland traffic websites, went to the police station, with no definite answers.  Sheena was right there with us using her laptop. At noon we deiced to try to leave town. We did pay for another night just in case we had to return. We all agreed it was cheap insurance just in case we couldn't get through. Sheena wished us well and away we went. The road did have 6" of water across but we went slowly and were able to pass on A85.

October 2023 The Oban Flood!

Easy to find 
1 minute walk from the harbour and pubs and eats etc 
Stopped 3 nights to tour about so booked the suite 
Friendly check in,good room cleaning but i didn't use the bar or breakfast option .Clean and comfortable beds 
Parking with a car can be a bit hit and miss in the public parking opposite .

Great base 

Genuinely friendly host and an extensive continental breakfast buffet that ranked among the greats! Parking just across the street.
Extended family or six had all their needs met, from a bar in the hotel to comfortable warm beds. 

Comfortable stay

A really great experience. The owner and staff were super friendly and great to chat with. We had a room for 3 people and found it to be spacious with comfortable beds. Only a 3-4 minute walk to the center of town.

Good Location, Great Staff

Wonderful location- close to train station and ferry terminal.
We arrived at 3 pm, and met the owner/ manager. She gave us our keys, and fortunately we were on the 2 nd floor ( no elevator). Our room was spacious with 2 twin beds, tv, kettle and tea supplies and a private bathroom. The bathroom looked newly refurbished and had a wonderful supply of hot water for showers.
The hotel is not fancy, but it was amazingly clean. Carpets were immaculate, and considering all of us using the stairs with luggage in tow, that shows good housekeeping skills.

First impressions last!  There was no welcome greeting when we arrived; just our name on an envelope on the hall table, with the key.   A middle aged woman did appear to curtly tell us it would be a continental breakfast next morning. 

When we arrived for breakfast, we proceeded to help ourselves to the cereal, as instructed.   It would have been better had that woman not appeared at all, as when she did, she instantly created the most tense, disconcerting atmosphere.  Trying to ignore this, I went to get a cup of coffee, and as I felt obliged to explain my intentions to her, accidentally touched the cafe latte button. Instantly she actually SLAPPED me with the back of her hand and SHOUTED at me to get a cup quickly.  (Granted, she may have been worried the coffee was going to start pouring, without a cup ready to receive it, but of course it didn't.)   Her RUDENESS was 10/10.   Far from granting every guest a warm welcome, her presence was extremely chilling, unwelcoming, and EXTREMELY RUDE. 

If anyone checked my other reviews, it is obvious that they are positive, and appreciative.  To put a positive spin on this review; this woman serves one purpose, to make one even more grateful to all those other hoteliers, etc, who work so hard to be constantly professional, polite, respectful, welcoming, and appreciative of their clientele. 

Oban is a beautifully situated scenic town, but is being done such a disservice by this woman. 



TOP MARKS FOR RUDENESS!

Sad hotel that has obviously suffered due to lack of tourists in the past two years and inability to hire staff.
There is no restaurant or bar available at this time, so if that is a requirement move on. Breakfast was continental only, and minimal at that. Again, probably due to lark of staff. Owners were obviously trying to do the best they could given the circumstances. 
Location is at the edge of town, but this is a small town so nothing is very far away. Very convenient for the CalMac ferry to Mull.
Also convenient for a number of local restaurants.
Our room was the large one with small kitchen area. However, I would willingly have given up the kitchen space for a bigger bed. Only about 1ft between bed and wall and I scraped my arm a number of times. Room was warm and we had to use a kitchen pot to prop the window open. Need to have something better for this.

Covid has done a number on this hotel that is trying to recover. I really hope they can make it.

This is a lovely Hotel ,staff are very freindly, within easy walking distance to the town, beautiful room everything we needed we took the dog she was very happy there, car park across the road £5 for 24 hours, if we go back to oban would book here again.

Excellent stay

I stayed with a friend at the Kelvin z hotel before travelling to the islands and I can’t tell you how welcoming she was.
The hotel is absolutely beautiful, and has been freshly decorated which is so tastefully done!
