Such a shame. Was prepared to overlook the shabby rooms & decaying decor as the majority of staff were very friendly and helpful but when you’ve paid for a superior room you expect something better. Obviously some sort of quiz going on with someone on a microphone most of the evening which meant not only do you have the road noise to contend with but noise in the room where you couldn’t hear you’re own TV. Will not be staying here again. After a long day at work with the prospect of an early start the next day it’s just not conducive to getting rest. Guests should be informed when booking then they can decide whether or not to stay

Noisy non restful experience

The building is lovely and the staff very friendly. Bed was very comfortable and the shower was nice too. Decent space in the room, with what you'd expect in the way of kettle, mirrors, etc. I enjoyed the food and drink, particularly breakfast, and they were priced appropriately. A lot more than I was expecting for the price of the room.

Excellent stay for the cost

My friends and I eat at the Cross Hands regularly. Donna & the other staff are friendly and welcoming and the food is fab. The restaurant is clean and there is a good selection of wines. The pub caters well for children and staff are knowledgeable about allergens.

Great food and service

Unable to contact the hotel as constantly goes to answerphone, even before the alleged knock off time of 3.30.

The hotel has definitely seen better days. I can't begin to think what the Queen thought when she had to stay here!!
The shower fan is noisy. The room decor is tired, worn and hasn't seen a paint brush for many years. 
Paid extra for our dog... for what? No dog bowl! No threats! No bed! And couldn't even sit with us in the restaurant! We had to sit it the bar for all meals.Not even allowed off the lead in the large car park/garden.

An experience to miss

Continues to have friendly staff. We have stayed here a number of times. The large car park is handy. Restaurant very good and they also run a quiz on a Thursday night. Room we stayed in could benefit from secondary glazing as there was a slight draft. Was a bit of a delay on reception on check in but otherwise good service. Clean and tidy. Portions at breakfast were  on the larger side but there were smaller options.

Stayed here two nights while walking the Cotswold Way.

Overall this was an excellent stay. We had decided to skip a day's walking and visit Bath instead and this accommodation was ideally suited for that plan as we could get a bus just outside the door to and from Bath.

All the staff in this hotel were excellent from start to finish and really went out of their way to make out stay enjoyable. The beer garden was great, a real gem.

The rooms were fine, albeit maybe a little tired, but perfectly fine for our stay.

We ate in the restaurant both nights. The serving staff were absolutely superb both nights and went out of their way to provide exemplary service and the food, though pub style, was hearty and as good as you could wish for at that price point.

Breakfasts were well done too and speedily served, always a plus when you are walking.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at the Cross Hands and would recommend.

Great stay at Cross Hands

Good location. Staff really good and friendly. Food as expected. Accommodation, beds comfortable and clean, good shower. But room is tired, needs refurbishment. 
Great that dogs can stay and they left us have a table in the bar area. Just of the Cotswold Way so good stop over.

The only way to describe our room was filthy!  Thick mould around the windows, sticky carpet, marks on walls, thick dust on bathroom skirtings, tired, small and unclean shower, dirty floor around toilet - the list goes on...
Not a pleasant room to spend a night in.
Restaurant food was ok and restaurant service good. 
Have been staying at this hotel for over 30 years when visiting family but not again. Now owned by Greene King who offer a "clean room promise". Unfortunately, they did not honour this promise. 
I was offered a discount but after a big of haggling gained a full room refund which I think was only right in this case. However, I would have preferred to have had a hygienic room and a comfortable sleep and paid what was due. 

Dirty room

Visited the Cross Hands with friends for evening meal. We have been here many times before and the service is usually slow, but this evening was exceptional. Our drinks order was taken promptly but had to ask several times where the drinks were ,they finally arrived after about 20min. The food was also slow but was good when it did arrive, however at the end of the meal we requested coffee & further drinks they never arrived after asking 3 times we gave up & cancelled the drinks. This restaurant was not busy this evening so absolutely no reason why we did not have a much better service. Afraid we will not return.

Not a good service

Booked for wheelchair access online, this was not an easy route around car park and through garden.
 Quite a few food items  unavailable from menu and waited a long time for service. First choice of beer not available and unsure if the second choice was actually speckled hen .V disappointing experience for a meal would not revisit especially with a wheelchair
