I stayed for two nights as I was visiting friends in Oxford.  Fantastic location away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre but with easy access straight down the Iffley Road into town.  10 min cab ride, 15 - 20 minutes on the bus (there are stops all along the main road or a 30-40 minute stroll.  You can also pick up the river for a walk if you head on down the Donnington Road just opposite.  There is a car park at the rear and despite being on a busy main road, I didn't notice it! They have a guest lounge next to reception and all of the rooms are upstairs.

The owners are lovely and very accommodating.  The hotel is clean and well kept and the double room was perfect for my visit.  Mattresses are comfortable (I usually find them too hard), tea and coffee facilities with complimentary biscuits, wardrobe, bedside table and lamps, dressing table with chair and an extra chair I could leave my case on.  I had an ensuite shower room with an abundance of towels that did exactly what I needed it to do. Traditional key locked doors which give it a homely feel and I felt safe and comfortable here. If I'm back in Oxford, I'd have no hesitation staying again.

Really enjoyed my stay 

I had a night's stay at the Balkan Lodge Hotel in early December. I booked a single room and was using it as a short stopover on my way to Swindon. I'd never visited Oxford before so it was an opportunity to have a look around the city. The first thing that attracted me to the Balkan Lodge was the free parking. And there is a car park at the rear of the property with room for about 8 cars. It's a large building and after parking I went through to the reception and checked in with the very helpful host John. My room was upstairs and whilst not the biggest was okay. Clean and tidy, plenty of tea bags, coffee, a kettle that worked and a decent little t.v. The bathroom was small but usable and the room was warm. A minor demerit the hotel no longer do breakfast so for the £80 I paid I felt it was ten pounds too much. I was aware of this before I booked so no major issue really. There is a cafe just up the road, 'Sylvie' and I used that for breakfast the next morning although it was pricey. It's part of another guest house I believe. The other thing to be aware of with the Balkan Lodge is that it's a fairly long walk to Oxford centre and all the major attractions. Over a mile I'd say. I'm sure a taxi would be possible though. Overall I had a decent stay at the hotel and would be happy to use it again. 

A night in Oxford. 

The single room I had at the Balkan Lodge Hotel was one of the prettiest I have stayed in during my month long travels through England. Although not in the city centre, it was close to a bus route with frequent buses. The city centre was only about 10 minutes away.  The hotel itself was quiet and the staff friendly and very helpful.

Pretty Room Quiet Hotel

Near city centre with good off street parking, on bus route about 12 minutes to centre. Large clean dining room, full english breakfast. Also a bar area but not sure if still in use. Not a large bedroom with very small bathroom.Though on main road, quiet with windows closed.

One night stay

We're just back from a lovely weekend at The Balkan Lodge Hotel. The whole place is very clean and tidy and the host was very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We had a great breakfast each morning and there was plenty to choose from. We would certainly stay there again and recommend it to anyone staying in Oxford.

Lovely Weekend

My husband and I stayed one night. We were visiting a friend in Nuffield Hospital.
The hotel felt freshly decorated. It was bright and clean. The bed was firm without being too hard. Everything was very good. The cooked breakfast was great, and we felt very welcome. We would go back again.

Lovely clean and comfy place to stay

We stayed at The Balkan Lodge with friends as we were out in Oxford for the night. The hotel was lovely! Clean, bright rooms with good amenities. Our stay was made extra special by the hospitality of the owner, he was very attentive and friendly and kept the bar open late for us at short notice, which was much appreciated.
I would thoroughly recommend this hotel if you are staying in Oxford!

Great place to stay in Oxford

My first impression on arrival was that the property was immaculate. The host took time out to pick me up from the bus stop. I must say he was most helpful and responsive to our needs. The breakfast was tasty. I would recommend and stay  there again.

Oxford visit

We enjoyed a night here last week and thoroughly loved it. 
The man on the front desk (I think he was called John) was lovely. When we arrived, he let us check in early as the room was free, which was an added bonus. We had just wanted to park the car (free parking!) so we could make the most of the day, which on speaking to him earlier in the month he said would be absolutely fine. He then gave us directions to the Thames Path so we could enjoy a more beautiful walk into Oxford, which was a nice touch.
The hotel was really quiet. We stayed in the four poster room, which was really pretty, well-equipped and clean. The bathroom is a little tired but the jacuzzi bath more than makes up for this!
The breakfast was incredible, too. 
This will definitely be the place we stay whenever we come to Oxford now. 
The hotel itself is great and the location is fantastic - a short walk into town and you’re away from all the hustle and bustle at bedtime. It’s perfect!
