We decided to stay at The Bear and Ragged Staff for the first time as we wanted to spend a few days in Oxford as my wife had not visited the area before. We were both very pleased with our choice of staying here as the service we received was generally excellent throughout our stay and the food/meals we had were first class. The location is also an excellent one for being able to explore Oxford and the surrounding area. Be aware that parking in Oxford is expensive so we would recommend using the local 'park and ride' service at Seacourt which is great value, £5.00 for the day, and offers frequent services. If you like shopping there is a Designer Outlet Village at Bicester, about 20 minutes away, which is well worth visiting. The one small issue we encountered with our stay was that, being used to sleeping in a king sized bed, we found sleeping in a double bed slightly uncomfortable. I would add this did not detract from our stay as we would be more than happy to stay here again in the future whenever we visit the area and are more than happy to recommend staying here.

We had a wonderful long weekend at the Bear and Ragged Staff, the staff were all very friendly and all our meals were of a high standard,especially the breakfasts so much choice! We loved the Bear and Ragged staff and can’t wait to return! A lovely place to stay , to visit Oxford and Blenheim Palace very relaxing !

A little gem in the countryside

Great staff who were helpful from the get go. Amazing food! Fabulous wine! And a beautiful old style bar and fire place. Perfect place to spend a few hours or days just relaxing 😌. The Sunday lunch was delicious. The room was spacious with a good size bathroom and wonderful character that you expect from an old classic pub

Perfect spot

We enjoyed a fantastic meal on Good Friday at this beautiful restaurant and pub. The food was absolutely delicious, delivered swiftly, and it was piping hot. The staff were very welcoming  and attentive, displaying good communication skills. The venue was busy, which is always good to see, and the toilets were spotless and tastefully decorated.  Thank you so much for a wonderful evening!

A wonderful evening and experience!

Me and dad had a marvelous first class experience at the Bear and ragged staff! Rooms 10/10, food 10/10 and staff 10/10. Highly, highly recommended!

Its worth to stay here just to taste the extrodanary coffe which has a marvelous blend.

Marvelous experience!

Great spot to pop down for a meal or a drink , lovely outdoor area and caters for all!  Staff are fantastic, booked a spot for the women's football and couldn't be better! Thank you to all staff!!!!!!!

Fantastic spot

The Bear and Ragged Staff is a lovely place to stay. It is quietly located and even though we slept above the pub, we were not disturbed by any loud noises. 
The room is nicely decorated and has a comfortable bed and bathroom. The food in the pub is delicious and the staff is extremely friendly.
Ideal for a visit to Oxford and surroundings. Parking at P&R Redbridge is very efficient and not a long drive from the pub. 

Lovely stay with character

We booked a table for 6pm and the whole visit for mains and desserts took 3 hours. They came to take our orders before they gave us the menus. They were having trouble with their meat supply so lots of dishes unavailable. We were a party of 6. One of the pork roasts was fatty. The gammon steaks were both very chewy so not pleasant. Few vegetables with all the roasts. Very average. The chicken caesar salad was drowned in parmesan presumably to disguise the fact that there was little chicken in it. 
We were waiting ages for the table to be cleared and the menu to arrive. Then they didn't come back to take the dessert order. We had to stop a member of staff who was walking by. Basically they had forgotten about us. 
Mostly the desserts were good once they arrived but the Eton Mess special was just meringue and sauce thrown together and no fruit.
We mentioned we were not happy so they took 20 pounds of the bill which really did not compensate for a poor meal with staff who just weren't looking after us. 
This is not what you expect from a restaurant of this type which I had always thought was better than average. Now I know different.

Slow service and mediocre food

Our room was surprisingly quiet, even when the restaurant and bar were full. The bed was comfortable, the room was clean and there was sufficient storage. Water pressure in the shower was good. The staff went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. We caught the bus into Oxford, rather than bothering about finding a carpark in the city. There is a bus stop just down the road and the journey only took about 20 mins. 
Food in the restaurant is standard pub fare.
