This has got to be the coldest pub I have been in . When we asked about it they said it was an old building.  No attempt to bring any extra heat so we sat in coats and scarves all evening.  Food was passable but served on cold plates so cold food. Certainly not the warm welcome in thier advert. Definitely avoid unless you take blankets.

Christmas supper with friends

We visited yesterday afternoon after driving by.we were greeted by Lovely attentive staff, Nice Burgers, lovely local ale and the food is good , value for money and good quality.Have been before and would visit again.

We visited the Stonemasons for a one night stay. The room was dirty with cobwebs hanging from the ceiling.The grouting in the bathroom was filthy. This place needs a serious deep clean.
Do not recommend staying here,a shame because it clearly has much potential

Very disappointed

This is an awful place to stay and here are the reason why:

1) no hot water

2) no shower screen or curtain

3) very noisy road with race track traffic outside bedroom window - cars and motorcycles with blasting trumpet exhausts until gone 2am starting again at 6 am Sunday morning all often well exceeding speed limit

4) filthy floors and carpets in all public areas

5) landlord has disgusting smoking habit leaving overflowing ash tray just outside doorway to rear eating area. Smoked while I was eating breakfast which polluted my air space

6) extremely late night rowdy bar activity directly below my room, noise eventually stopped at 2am

7) drinks and half full dirty glasses left on bar from previous night and this is where you take breakfast

8) worst b&b breakfast ever, almost inedible, Christian had to dispose of his in the hedge

9) bashed my head going into bathroom - low doorways

I was due to stay for 2 nights but I decided not stay the second for the above reasons

Working at Petworth Castle on a Screening Event

Management were good and got our rooms ready so we could change before going to a wedding. However, while we were waiting for a cab we had a drink, but cushions had stains on the. The carpets needed a good clean. Hotel and rooms need a deep clean throughout.

Welcoming,but not clean

Came here for some food after a walk in Petworth Park. The pub is just down the road from there. 
They stop serving food really early but we managed to make it just in time.

We both had the pie which was nice, although could have been more meaty. It was good they weren’t stingy with the gravy too!

However it did have a funny smell. I’d not like to comment what it smelt like but they could do with opening some windows / having some scented candles!

So so

A very welcoming pub but a little down at heel. We stayed for a night here and were quite underwhelmed. The staff were friendly but the accommodation requires a great deal of upgrading. It is all very dated and needs some real investment to bring the rooms up to a good standard. It’s a lovely old pub with heaps of potential but some way to go! The breakfast was reasonable. Cannot comment on other food as we did not eat there.

A bit underwhelmed!

We had a lovely stay in this lovely old pub. The oak beamed bedroom we stayed in was very comfortable. Very friendly staff and good food.  Thank you guys and If we are that way again we will definitely come and see you

The pub is in a historic building convenient for Petworth and the South Downs. The food and drink was good and the service was excellent. Some of the internal furnishings (e.g. the chairs) are a little worn. I would return again. This review says it is a hotel, we did not stay overnight.

Good lunch after a walk at Petworth

This pub has clearly seen better days- the paint is peeling off the windows & most of the seats are held together with gaffer tape. Not the most aesthetically pleasing pub. 
However, the staff were friendly & the service good. The food was nice enough, but probably a bit overpriced. There wasn't much meat with the roast lunch, & it looked like it was from a precooked pack rather than a freshly cooked joint. 
It was good to know that the vegetables aren't cooked in butter, as in many places. I have a cows' milk allergy, so this is good news. However, I was served a Yorkshire pudding with my meal, which I am allergic to, & they were just going to take it away despite it contaminating my meal.
