Remote but very quaint little place. It would be great in the summer to sit and chill out in the lovely garden. 
Food is great and reasonable. Owner Matt is great host and will do as much aa he can to make you comfortable.

Such a truly great country pub. 

It was busy and the owner and staff still managed to make us feel welcome and well attended to. 

Great value and a good selection of local food and drinks. 

Everyone seemed to be enjoying their food and conversation. 

Specials were great and very popular. 

A lovely destination pub, great to meet friends or to walk from.

A lovely country pub with good food

We had a lovely New year's eve dinner at the brace of pheasants, lovely character pub in the middle of nowhere.
Food very good,bedroom very nice and comfortable, bed was so comfy.lovely and warm also.

On a cold wet December night, being locals to Dorset, we were expecting to enter a warm pub with the fire on. Instead, the fire was blocked off to make space for a table and the radiators in the dining room were off despite being told that the heating was on by the staff (I tested a rad myself with my own hands - stone cold). No fire, no warmth = no atmosphere and makes for a stark and chilling start to our dining experience.

Then we came to the food. I ordered from the 'Specials' board thinking that would be a safe bet for fresh and generously portioned dishes, but I was mistaken. I had the Ribeye steak pie with veg. The 'Special' Ribeye Steak Pile @ £17.50!!

At least some gravy would have been nice as the dish is otherwise very uninviting. Sparce of veg to boot. Really not what I expected for that price-point and for the dish being on their 'Specials' board. Tight and unappealing. Pie was relatively dry.

Won't be going back as if a pub is this cold and tight with their food its not a place for me.

Cold dining room, Plain Food, nothing special about the "Specials" menu/food.

Superb! A splendid stay, for a party of four. We had the annexe rooms,very comfortable. Super food in the restaurant,both evening  and breakfast. Very good value for money,and excellent host.Thanks Matt.

Overnight stay

A wonderful weekend. The food was excellent, the accommodation superb and the service second to none. They were very adaptable to our whims, even providing cheesy chips!  We will certainly recommend this to all our friends and hopefully visit again soon

Wonderful weekend 

I went with a friend & was expecting a lovely Sunday lunch, so disappointed it was Luke warm, one carrot , one parsnip. No Yorkie arrived , we were told that the chef forgot them & it would be out shortly, did not arrive & they didn’t come & apologise or acknowledge it again. We had a pudding but still left hungry. The adjacent table yorkie arrived after they finished their meal. It was very small & probably not worth waiting for. Would not return.

Disappointing

Excellent menu, very varied and interesting with traditional and international flavours.  Locally sourced products. Great drinks selection. The owner is very friendly, engaging and attentive. Room was pleasant.

The place was lovely especially the bar and restaurant area. We felt the rooms could with a little TLC especially the bathroom. The heating could have been turned prior to our arrival as it quite cold, we did get snow during our stay. The food was lovely, the staff very friendly and accommodating. Well worth a visit.

Lovely place, great food.

We were recommended here whilst staying at a local Airbnb and are so pleased we went. We had the most scrumptious Sunday roast; couldn't move afterwards!! It's a warm & cosy pub is in such a scenic & peaceful location (easy to find & a lovely walk), with friendly service. We felt very well looked after. Can highly recommend a visit here.
