Amazing hotel great landlady and staff Amazing food

The Poachers is a spacious , beautifully maintained hotel and inn complex.  So at odds with its position in a tiny village - Piddletentrhide - you try pronouncing that - I can't!... The village is generous hotch potch of thatched cottages, chocolate box wisteria fronted houses and little lanes. 
Back to the hotel: Food and drink was excellent quality, both breakfasts and dinner. the host and staff very obliging, and great talkers. The room we stayed in, overlooked the pool (incidentally, in 3 days we only saw one brave enough to have a dip!) . Very spacious, with all the amenities,  all in all, very comfortable and inviting. 
We had happy conversations with other visitors , the atmosphere congenial, and warm.... inspired no doubt by our surroundings. Yes, highly recommended!

A perfect 3 day break!

Beautiful location, lovely quaint place. Nice, clean and spacious accommodation. Lovely food and lovely friendly staff especially Ella and Kate, making it a lovely pleasurable break away for a couple of nights. Will definitely be back again soon!

Lovely friendly Inn

We arrived early for our booking, with the intention to enjoy a drink at the bar first. 

Greeted with a warm welcome by the barmaid, it all started well. That is until we attempted to order drinks…none of the ‘basic’ soft drinks you would expect available and just two options of beer to chose from. I even had to taste test my cola, to make sure it was ok before committing. Anyway we got through that and started to enjoy our drinks, when the landlord came over, saying he would send the chef out to chat to the kids about what they wanted and that they could MAKE ANYTHING. This phrase was repeated a few times, however when the chef (his wife) came out it was clear they had very limited offering. No matter what the kids asked for (basic things like pasta, chicken nuggets) they didn’t have any of it available…our kids actually eat anything healthy and would have eaten off of the adult menu but that wasn’t even an option for them at this point.  They ended up pushed down the sausage and chips and pizza route. So we ordered one of each and specifically asked for veg to go with the pizza (which never turned up) as again salad was offered. The pizza was a pre made supermarket pizza base with a load of cheese and some tomato cut up on it. 

Note: we were still stood at the bar at this point. So when asked what we wanted, we joked we hadn’t seen the menu yet! 

Once seated the table was very sticky, even my 2 year old commented to the waitress about it. 

Having had a chance to review the limited menu and order, the food served was the worst we had experienced all holiday. Ordered steak rare, but arrived over cooked and fish looked like it had been flattened with a griddle pan, even though it was supposed to be battered fish and chips. 

I’m not sure hygiene was top of the list for this place. When using the toilet we discovered the high chairs were stored in the disabled one, right next to the loo. Not exactly the most hygienic location. Surely they had somewhere better to store them?! 

All in all £125 for a really poor meal - felt robbed and would rather go a few miles up the road to the thimble, where the meals are far superior and we could order 3 courses each for £25 more…

It’s such a shame as this hotel/pub/restaurant has a prime opportunity to become brilliant, since the closure of the piddle inn and no other options within near walking distance. However, I think they know this and it’s part of the problem.

Terrible food - don’t bother going

Absolutely Fantastic .
The staff will bend over backwards to make your stay enjoyable. 
Very good service.  Great location .Great food .service is always with a smile. What more can I say .Will definitely be back .breakfast is served from 8:30 
but if you want they will deliver a sandwich to your room earlier if you have to be on the road because of work 
commitments like myself  👍

Perfect ...

We booked a room at the very last minute and found it on Booking.com. We had a twin room in the main building. The room had everything we needed and was clean and comfortable. We slept with the windows open and it was still
so peaceful. We did not eat in the restaurant as we already had purchased food. We noticed that they catered for vegetarians. My daughter and I visited the bar for a quick drink and found everyone to be very welcoming. 
Breakfast was served between 8.30-9.30 which was a little late for us but again they were able to provide vegetarian sausages. There was free Wi-Fi and coffee/tea making facilities.
Overall we had a lovely relaxing stay.

A great stay!

Lovely stay with my dog for one night . Room was very clean and tidy. Hosts were great and I enjoyed a lovely breakfast before my journey back to south wales. Thanks for being accommodating.  Set in a rural village and the staff were very friendly. Would reccomend. 

Great country feel

Pros: 
Friendly welcome & helpful staff
Room was very clean and decent size
Plenty of parking

Cons:
Furniture & TV in room quite dated
Road noisier than expected
Very limited evening menu
Breakfast service was chaotic. Table with cereals, fruit juice etc was rarely refreshed. A 1 hour breakfast serving window causes a pinch point that the staff struggle to deal with. Too few staff and quality of food not great. Service was slow.
Room towels were stained

It wasn't terrible and could be very good but as it stands, our room should have been £90 a night - not £130 !

Needs to get better or get cheaper

The room was immaculate and recently decorated with very comfortable beds. All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The restaurant menu is limited but we really enjoyed our choices. Quiet and peaceful the Poachers is an ideal base to visit local attractions.

Peaceful stay at the Poachers Inn

Charming little hotel with clean, comfortable rooms, lovely staff and great breakfast! NIce cosy bar and small restaurant serving good food. Sarah the owner and her team were very welcoming, friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble.
