We are very disappointed with our room as pictures online of the rooms are different to reality. The room was dirty, the toilet was basically a cupboard and there was not an actual cupboard to store our clothes. Bed was very uncomfortable and there was nothing online that you need to wear mask even if you are exempt. We do not recommend this place!! Not worth it.

Avoid this place

This is the second review I have put, the first I put on was on their own website but for some strange reason it disappeared. On arrival we were shown our room and immediately we were aware of some shocks. The wardrobe had no doors on for some reason possibly to keep a eye on our clothes,I was pleasantly surprised we had 2 TV remotes (neither worked) still looking for the third. I didn’t realise you could have TV screens that small. On booking breakfast was included however surprise surprise no breakfast blessing in disguise and no offer of  refund. The shower was just like a misty morning in Yorkshire but a bit colder cramped in a cupboard. Her reviews on her own website are a complete misrepresentation of the poor quality of this so called hotel. To sum it up it needs to be renamed from the rusty anchor to the rusty nail. By the way there is a large for sale sign on the front door. Buyer beware be up for a challenge

Honest opinion

After looking on the website what read wonderful and after staying there.They was no resemblance at all to what is advertised  very misleading we feel that others should be made aware of this. The only good thing was that our bikes were safe in the back garden

Disappointed

Fantastic location very close to the sea front. The property is quite dated and could do with a makeover to bring it up to date. My husband and I had quite a small room with an ensuite of which the toilet was literally 1 step away from the bed. Maybe a re-arrangement of the room would eradicate the problem. All in all it was a pleasant stay, warm and do-able.

Visiting family 

We were visiting the Pavillions for a show and were looking for a convenient B and B and this fitted the bill. We used the Park and Ride and walked downacross the Hoe which was an enjoyable stroll.

The Rusty Anchor itself is an unpretentious B and B with clean rooms, a good breakfast and an obliging hostess. We will definately use it again if visiting Plymouth for a show or catching an early ferry (it is right by the ferry terminal).

Good Value Well Located Base For Plymouth

Stayed here on the last night of a weeks walking the South West Coast Path. Maybe it was because of the shock of entering a big busy city after a week of beautiful coastline but at £90 a night I was expecting a lot better after comparing it to some of the places we had stayed in during the week and had paid less.
Jan welcomed us with tea and biscuits which was a nice touch, but our room and the place in general is in serious need of redecoration.
There were no towels in the room ( I took them from another room that was empty), the bathroom is tiny with Louvre doors where everything could be heard!
The bed was ok but the quilt and pillows were thin and low quality which didn’t make for a good nights sleep.
Breakfast the following morning was average. The produce used appeared to be budget cash and carry rather than locally sourced.
Jan is a friendly host but appears to do everything herself which may explain some things, but I’m afraid that if paying £90 a night in Plymouth again (unlikely as I thought it quite an ugly city) I would probably look elsewhere.

A bit over priced for what you get

When we met our hostess Jan, we instantly felt welcome. The Rusty Anchor is in a great setting near the waterfront. Our upstairs room was comfortable but could do with a makeover as things seem a little worn out. However this did not spoil our stay. Jan was friendly, helpful and even invited us to join her for dinner on our second night. When we left we felt that we were farewelling a friend.

Homely experience.

A one-off stay here as our preferred B&B (in nearby Pier Street) was full (Mayday Bank Holiday weekend).  The property has a good location (only a short walk up to the Hoe) and parking is not really a problem.  Be aware - at least according to the property-owner - that guest-parking is on the other side of the road only; the side of the road on which the B&B is located being reserved for residents of the street.  Also, the 'parking ticket' (£5 cash from the owner) suggests validity on the day of arrival only, but actually - agan according to the owner -  it covers 10.00a.m. on arrival day to 10.00a.m the next morning.  We had received confirmation of our on-line booking (made directly with the B&B) as 'Room 1'.  This did not seem to exist as a room (the door was open and it didn't look to me to be a usable bedroom) and were instead accommodated in Room 6 at the very top of the building.  If you are considering staying here, my recommendation would be to avoid Room 6, which is set-up as a 'family room' and whilst the bed was comfortable enough (but not very inviting looking), the decor was frankly 'austere and dowdy'.  The bathroom area had two light-fittings, each of which was fitted with a bulb of about 5 Watts - but one of the two was not even working.  Dull and dark would be a bit of an understatment!  There was a television of sorts, small and not working too well but also mounted ridiculously high on the wall.  I rather suspect that other of the bedrooms may be somewhat better, so I need tobe careful not to come over as a miserable whinger  Good breakfast, so no concerns here.  Rather overly-chatty lady proprietess for my liking, but her style may suit others better.  Value can only be considered 'poor to average', based on this one-night experience.

OK - but there are better options nearby

We were only staying a night as part of a walking tour of the South West Coastal Path, with the accomodation booked for us and so we had no choice as to where to stay. That said the reviews seemed to suggest that this would be an OK place to stay.

The two rooms we odd to say the least. The bigger room had the en-suite in a wardrobe, complete with the louvre doors still intact so as to offer no privacy. The worst was the shower though where most of the time was spent trying to watch thick black hairs off the walls and down the drain (not ours of course). The shower itself had been updated at some point and the holes from the previous shower had not been sealed in the plastic wall covering so that is going to be a big problem for them in the future with water flowing behind the wall covering.
There had been a hair dryer in the room at some point, we were told very recently, but now there was just the front adapter for directing the flow with the rest gone walkies. It seems that cleaning and checking of the rooms could be improved.

The second bedroom had a television the same size as an economy long hall flight. When it is thrust in your face, it is useable but when it is stuck to the wall at the other end of the room, it is a shame not to have supplied a pair of binoculars to have made it a joke? That room had a collection of remote controls, one that actually had batteries in it.

Breakfast was perfectly acceptable and the hostess very friendly but the place is in need of some serious refurbishment. If I read that it has had this, I would consider staying again but not until I do.

The lowlight of our trip to Cornwall

The guist house is located on the shore of the city which is not too far for walking around the city. Breakfast is perfact. The room is very nice although the towels had their long life and can be changed. The owner is very nice.
