Our second visit to Blue shutters because we knew what to expect. Our main reason for returning was Milly's fabulous breakfasts and the fact that we knew how clean everywhere would be. Once again we were not disappointed. OK so people complain about the lack of on site management and the parking arrangements. Get over it. It all works perfectly well for us. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Another brilliant 3 day break at Blue Shutters.

More like a hostel than  B&B. No hosts, no welcome just a basic room and automated check in. Order breakfast by text, which is served in the dining room, service was efficient but lacked the friendly personal touch of hosted B&B's.
Luckily other rooms were occupied we would have really not wanted to be the only guests in an otherwise empty building. Probably suits some people but not us, we didn't enjoy the experience at all.
The room was adequate for one night although ensuite was not very clean. The  toilet flush was feeble, there was  black mould in the shower, the sink plug was full of hair, the expel air fan very noisy and went on for ages, there are no curtains just shutters but one was broken and would not stay closed. Strange alarm started somewhere in the building at 5.30am, going off every 5 mins until 6.30am, possibly another guests? Bed was quite comfortable but overall we were pleased we had only booked one night.

No warm welcome.

This is a modern type of guest house with no host, rather like those highway motels in France. Very quiet location and a lovely garden for sitting out in the summer. Very clean but the room was basic, like university student digs. A great TV and a very generous tea/coffee table, then two beds and a strange IKEA like thing to hang clothes and slot suitcases. That's it. The bed was an English double so not really big enough for two people. Luckily the room was a triple so my husband slept on the other single. 

My hubby was ok with the bed but I found it hard with a cheap lumpy duvet and 4 big over-stuffed polyester pillows and didn't sleep. Now I have a B&B myself and have slept on every bed to check comfort levels. My beds all have mattress toppers for comfort and my 4 pillows are quality and all different so the customer can find a shape and softness to suit. 

I know it is hard to retrofit ensuites into an existing old house but this one was tiny. I am a size 14 and had to turn sideways to squeeze between the sink and the shower. If the toilet and shower were reversed you would get a better traffic flow. Plus the only place to put your toiletry bag was on the toilet or there was a tiny shelving unit on the floor under the sink but too low to use. 

Breakfast was great and the two ladies that served it were charming. The price especially for an Easter holiday Saturday was fine but I don't think I would return as not comfortable enough. Place would suit younger visitors. Loved the borbon and custard cream biscuits in the room though.

Great Value but Rather Basic.

What a great place, quite handy location for travelling into Bournemouth. We arrived for our 1 night stay on Saturday afternoon, check in was simple and quick, we were able to get our keys without any hassle.

Room was spotless and charming, nicely setup with ample amounts of tea and coffee. Bathroom couldn’t fault all the amenities you needed, liked the touch of shower gels and shampoo handy if you’ve forgotten.

Nice touch with car park leaving room numbers in to make it easy if you got blocked in (Which thankfully we didn’t)

Breakfast on Sunday was great! Hosts made us feel welcome and breakfast was freshly prepared. 

Will be recommending to friends and family.

Can’t fault, not much else to say!

what an exceptionally clean and well maintained room. everything was easy including usb sockets and easy to to find plugs  with controllable heating. very comfy bed. bathroom shower with space and all toiletries  and breakfast served at room at exactly 9 am with warm pan au chocolate. now thats impressive

A quality light and bright room and such great value

Down in Dorset for a short break, we pre-booked this place. Electronic check in was unusual but effective. Personally would have preferred a 'proper' meet & greet.

Room was good size and well equipped, but rather warm & stuffy, although once we had opened a few windows it soon cleared the air. Bed was large and comfortable.

Covid precautions were good and although they have just re-opened the dining room with well spaced tables, you could still order breakfast to your room if you were still unsure.

Host Anita was very friendly and helpful, but a special mention must go to Milly who seemed to be here, there and evetwhere and willing to go the extra mile.

Nice little B&B

Check in was via an automated 'pod' next to the door which I have never experienced before however I managed it. It is important to have your booking instructions and reference to hand else getting the keys will be difficult. There was nobody to meet and greet when I was there. The room was a reasonable size for a single bed only with desk, chair, clothes hanger and a bathroom with sink shower and toilet. The room was serviced daily and always seemed clean when i came back. The location is quiet and my bed was warm and comfortable so I had little problem sleeping with the window open. Breakfast was ordered the night before and served either in the room or the garden. The garden was a pleasant place to be on good weather and I saw squirrels in the trees one morning. Parking is out front and two deep so you might get asked to move your car if someone wants to get out. The kerb out front is only dropped partway across so that can be a bit of a surprise if you don't spot it and bump up onto the driveway. Nothing really to complain about - breakfast was always tasty and on time when I had ordered it.

Solo Holiday

First, the context. We visited in June 2021, i.e. Covid restrictions in the UK eased significantly (whilst infection rate was climbing). Blue Shutters introduced understandable safety measures aiming to minimise/eliminate human contact. But a lot of this place's character was apparent regardless.

Since the Covid policy required no human interaction, the owner (I think she was the owner) thought it's somehow OK to bombard me with text messages. Innocuous at first (useful info about check in procedures and nearby attractions/restuarants). Then it turned into chasing me to ask what we choose for breakfast. I was meant to provide it by 8pm but the chasers started a few hours before (17:27).

Not sure how other guests find it. I was on holiday, mostly driving and sightseeing and being chased to meet a deadline (which I didn't miss!) isn't my idea of fun or relaxation. If they want it earlier, give me an earlier deadline and chase me if I actually miss it, if that's your thing.

Was it worth chasing me? Hard to say. Because of Covid they didn't actually offer breakfast one would normally expect (even thoug restaurants in the area were open at the time). Instead they offered a sandwitch one can eat in the room or the graden (weather permits. Which it didn't) When I asked for plain yogurt and cheese, the answer was they do only fruit yogurt and no cheese.

When the time came in morning, knock on the door. I was waiting 20 seconds or so to allow the them to clear. Covid, contactlessness, you know. I assumed they'd just leave it at the door. Another knock. I opened the door and the lady with the tray was standing there. Masked and all that but I wasn't as I didn't expect contact. Would have been nice to know about this.

Anyhow, despite chasing me several times before, they did manage to get it wrong and add egg to a sandwitch we asked without. Didn't bother to complain at this point. Anyhow, sitting in a bed and breakfast  room eating quorn sausages in bread wasn't very enjoyable and didn't feel like £120 well spent.

When we left, someone blocked our car. I called the owner and she sounded a bit upset I'm calling (hitherto our relationship was only textual) and said it's her car. We met her outside, chatting to other guests (or so they seemed). She didn't talk to us, didn't utter a word, not even hello, goodbye or hope you enjoyed your stay. Nothing. Frankly, we didn't come to chat but it didn't seem very friendly and bordered misanthropy. Which is fine by me but probably not a desirable trait if you run a hospitality business.

I'm aware this may be a unique experience and other guests may find more appealing. I've read a few other reviews and it seems like most visitors like the place. I was quite annoyed with them bugging me before I even got there.

In terms of room quality, the family room was at the top floor, facing the street. Not the busiests of streets but the cars that pass go fast and it was noisy on a warm day with open windows. So here too, could be better.

Unfriendly or Misanthropic, I'm still unsure

I understand the keyless entry but does it prevent someone at least meeting you?  The bed was uncomfortable and small. We had to text our choice of sand which through to the owner, not a cooked breakfast on the menu. Got up and went downstairs to eat in the garden, no pads for the cold metal chairs. No welcome from anyone. No glass for the orange juice. No one came to see if we were okay and weren’t offered any more to drink. Dropping off keys in a bowl in the front and no one to say thank you for coming or anything. Very very impersonal even through Covid times. Will not stay here again and will go somewhere cheaper with a lot more to offer!

Overpriced and unwelcoming

Blue shutters was a great place to stay whilst we were in the area for a family day trip. It was my birthday on the day and I'd kindly requested a mini fridge for a bottle of bubbles which was kindly provided with an added extra of a box of chocolates inside - thank you! A very thoughtful touch. Seamless check in process, didn't see a single person whilst we were there, lovely rooms and breakfast to the room was fantastic in these challenging times. Highly recommend and would stay again.
