A friendly, welcoming team who were very helpful and accommodating. The open fires were fabulous in creating atmosphere and warmth.  The hotel was well maintained and the rooms were faultless. The food and service was was excellent.......especially the homemade pies!  

Business Visit

Great staff, lovely setting, good food and rooms are a good size and clean.

Not the cheapest place but neither too expensive considering the size of rooms.  No lift and some stairs to negotiate so probably not suitable for people with mobility issues to stay the night although this would not be an issue to use their restaurant or bar.  

Lovely place to eat, drink and stay

It´s more a guest house or hostel than an hotel, but whatever you call it, staying there was an unpleasant experience.  It doesn´t have any of the facilities you´d expect of a hotel, but that doesn´t excuse their refusal to turn on the heating.  Night time temperatures were about 10 degrees when we where there, but nobody we asked knew how (or more likely, weren´t allowed) to turn on the heating.  For us that meant a very cold, damp and unpleasant stay.  This super frugality might also be the root of the unpleasant smell.  For the rest: Food was the typical “pub grub” that´s become a UK staple over the last several years.  The only glimmer of good news was provided by the breakfast sausages, but they wouldn´t be a good enough reason to stay there again!


Cold, dank and Miserable!

The staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble.  The room was just above average, the floor boards certainly reflected the age of the hotel (very squeaky).  In room coffee/tea making, refreshed daily.  Room was turned everyday.  I found our King size bed very hard (hubby liked it). Walk in shower was great, we asked about a non-slip bath mat & one was brought promptly.  Good breakfast - NOT a buffet!!!  food very good. Overall nice place for weekend getaway, or in our case local to friends/relatives and for the funeral we had to attend.

Fantastic accommodation and food! The rooms were large, clean and had everything we needed. The staff were really friendly and super helpful. Our waitress at dinner was amazing and really accommodating throughout the night. Will absolutely be returning soon and would highly recommend! 

Fantastic experience - both the hotel and restaurant!

Booked here to stay for the Emmerdale Tour which is 20 minutes drive away. Hotel very accomodating to allow us to check in at 12.30pm for our 2pm tour. This was very good of them. Stayed in room 15. Huge bathroom and bed made of 2 single beds pushed together. Room clean, bathroom clean. Only view from this room is looking onto a small yard where Staff take their breaks. Windows are too small for the room and can only be opened so far which doesn't make sense as not even a child could fit through them. The nets have to be kept shut for privacy from the Staff. Would not want to stay in this room when its even hotter than this weekend! Cumfy bed. Tv. Table & 2 chairs, nice touch. Bit of a hike to this room if you have heavy bags or are disabled. Had booked a table for dinner but decided against it (Review written on the Calverly Pub Trip Advisor) Breakfast was good, except the sourdough bread which we were told there is no alternative. Shame we had to wait over 35 minutes to be served when others were served same breakfast before us, we had to remind them we had not been served. No continental or other breakfast items are offered prior to your one choice. Juices and tea/coffee but the juices were not topped up regularly so had to ask. Tables were not cleared so little choice of where to sit. Sadly the young staff seem to be oblivious to clearing and collecting plates and glasses and spend too much time going on breaks. We know this as we constantly saw them from our room! More shocking was to see the younger Chef sat out there in his whites rolling cigarettes on his apron and smoking in them. Put us of eating! Think they need an older member of staff to supervise and organise them. They talk between themselves openly whilst you are being served and talk about the management which I found unprofessional. All in all we wouldn't stay here again. Plenty of other hotels for the Emmerdale tour in the vacinity. 

Average Hotel Staff Need Guidance!

We stayed for four nights in room 5,at the end of March, as we wanted to see the area of West Yorkshire, but had also planned to do the "Emmerdale experience" which did not disappoint.
The room was fantastic, comfortable, warm, with a good shower, and plenty of toiletries, teas and coffees, if you wanted any more, the staff will willingly supply them.
The meals in the restaurant are first class, the chefs certainly know how to cook a medium to well done sirloin steak.
It really is the staff that make he hotel a great one to both stay in and return to, and you could confidently recommend it to friends and family. We wanted to go into Leeds to explore the city, but didn't fancy driving in, with the one way system trying to find a car park. A big thank you to Abi, who recommended going into the city by train as New Pudsey station is only a few miles away, she supplied train times, organised a taxi to the station, and gave us the numbers of taxi firms to bring us back from the station later in the day.
It is service like this that makes a hotel a great place to stay, Can I also mention Emily and Millie, who both served us in the restaurant with a smile and helpful service.
My only criticism is at breakfast is the toast. Can I ask that  you do away with the sourdough rolls. Sliced white break toasted is the standard for a British breakfast, sough dough when toasted goes very hard. I am sure Craig could sort this out.

Great place to stay

Stayed here for two nights and it's been lovely! 

The room was clean, the bed was comfy and the staff that we encountered were all friendly. The fixtures and fittings are all of a high quality and it is well decorated throughout.

We decided to have the breakfast both mornings and while there was a little bit of a wait, it was definitely worth it. I definitely don't agree with any of the reviews saying the breakfast staff were rude - sure the chap is busy but he's friendly and approachable. 

Plenty of car parking, quiet location and great views of Yorkshire. Would definitely stay again! 

Room was fine, little dusty but can deal with that. The staff were probably some of the most unfriendly I have come across apart from the young girl who checked us in. Especially the man on breakfast who came across as rude and looked as if he didn’t want to be there at all.  We had a 45 min wait for breakfast - we were one of the first down. Wouldn’t stay again nor would I recommend to anyone.

It was okay

We have used the hotel at the Calverley Arms for a number of years and it never fails. Great size family room, always clean with great facilities. Breakfast is excellent value and staff so friendly!
Such a great location when we are visiting family.
